ROYAL COUTURE.....Pippa Middleton Wedding: Wedding Gown, Best Dressed & "Uh Oh" Guests!

Wedding Gorgeous: Pippa Middleton and James Matthews smile after their wedding--St. Marks Church Englefield England

Pippa Middleton--the sister of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, married hedge fund manager and former professional racing driver, James Matthews on Saturday at a glorious wedding fitting a royal--or "Royal Adjacent". Pippa might not really be a royal but because of her very close approximation to one, I am placing her--and her wedding--in this Royal Couture blog. So let's discuss the wedding and more importantly, the Wedding Couture beginning with Pippa's wedding dress and then some of the guests...

The Dress:

Pippa Gown: Pippa Middleton chose a "Princess"/A-line shaped ballgown style for her wedding day. The handmade gown of lace and pearls was designed by British designer Giles Deacon. The dress was done in a manner that would not show any seams--by overlapping the lace--by hand--meticulously over the many seams that are in a gown of this silhouette. The dress featured a full ballgown skirt shape and UBER fitted drop-waist torso/bustier. It also had a high neckline, drop shoulder sleeve detail and heart-shaped semi-open back.

 British designer Giles Deacon

Giles Deacon Couture Fall/Winter 2016, modeled by model Anna Cleveland, daughter of famed 70's Supermodel Pat Cleveland

Giles is said to have put on hold all his fashion business for the last few months to concentrate on Pippa's one-of-a-kind gown. His most recent "Couture" collection was for Fall/Winter 2016 and it showed glorious, billowing handmade gowns with exquisite applique detail. Pippa's wedding dress would probably cost in the realm of $75,000-$100,000, at least that would be the going price for an actual Haute Couture gown from the likes of Elie Saab, Zuhair Murad, Chanel or Dior. No news if she possibly got a "discount" for all the press he would receive.

The Veil:

The veil--of tulle and pearls--was done by famed milliner Stephen Jones.

Sister Fixing: Pippa's sister, Catherine the Duchess of Cambridge, was seen fixing Pippa's tulle-and-pearl veil as she was about to enter the church ceremony, just making sure that it was perfect

Shape Similar: Pippa's lace and pearl wedding gown was similar in shape to the iconic Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton wedding dress worn by her sister Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge

Sealed with a Kiss: Pippa Middleton and James Matthews as they emerge from their church wedding ceremony with their "Flower girls and boys", including William and Kate's children Prince George (second from right) and Princess Charlotte--St. Marks Church, Englefield England

Page Boys and Girls:

Stylish George: Prince George (center), giving a "look" to the photographers--and looking very much like his father when William was his age. Prince George looked super cute in a white Peter Pan collared shirt with mini pintucks and emerald green silk shantung knickers.

Royal Style:

Mommie Kate: Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge looked chic and wedding appropriate in a dusty rose/light salmon colored silk crepe dress from Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton. Her dress was a lady-like tea-length and featured a v-neckline, gathered Bishop sleeves, fitted midriff and pleated front skirt details. Her daughter Princess Charlotte looked ADORABLE in her gathered flower girl dress, with fresh flower headdress and pink cummerbund.

I have to say that Catherine looked very "Wallis Simpson Duchess of Windsor"-like in this 30's-like dress.

Dapper Brothers: Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and his brother Prince Harry in their tailcoat/morning coat ensembles.

Guests:

Princess Eugenie, daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York--(seen here with her boyfriend Jack Brooksbank) wore this navy blue A-line shaped knee-length dress from French designer Paule Ka. The cotton dress features a "split-shoulder" neckline and retails for $1,014 HERE. For Pippa's wedding she decided to "play it safe" as opposed to her head-turning look at Kate's wedding.

Vanilla Yellow Donna: British actress--and aspiring fashion designer--Donna Air (who is on-off girlfriend to Pippa's hottie bearded brother James for the last four years)--attended the wedding in this lemon yellow/cream coat-dress from UK designer Emilia Wickstead Spring/Summer 2017 collection. Lots of fashion-watchers criticized her for saying that she should not have worn WHITE (a No-No as a wedding guest) but I have to disagree with these wanna-be-fashion experts...this coat-dress is NOT white and in fact more of a "vanilla yellow"-like color. I liked it! It was demure, elegant and lady-like. I also loved the matching hat and those fabulous ankle strapped pumps. The magenta colored clutch added a respite from all the vanilla/lemon yellow. Did I mention that this WAS NOT WHITE. OK. Thank you.

Tartan: A couple of male guests opted for tartan pants as part of their tailcoat ensembles. And I say "Go On Boys!". Love the tartan, love the statement and even though, yes, I know as a guest of a wedding, it really isn't about you but...I love when (especially) male guests GIVE YOU FASHION!

Flower Prints and Hats: These two guests stood out for their Wedding Fab printed dresses, perfect for a Spring/Summer wedding. I love the canary yellow flower printed dress on the left as well as the blue one on the right. Both looks are great examples of chic Wedding Guest Style, especially for a May wedding. If I had to chose my favorite of the two, it would be the blue; the waist-tie shirt dress style was elegant, fun and I loved the feminine ruffle details.

Fab Dressed: These two guests get my Wedding Guest Best Dressed points--the left one, for that fab pheasant feather-topped hat and blue-and-white ensemble as well as those navy-and-white pumps. I also loved the guest on the right in the pink pleated silk dress with Bishop sleeves and delicately appliqued detail. The gold pumps were a super chic addition.

Uh No Part One: Two female wedding guests that were not on my Best Dressed List were these printed ladies. Now, there's a way to do printed dresses for a wedding (scroll above) and this is a way to not do it. The guest on the left wore this drab Autumn-like printed dress that not only, looked dowdy but also said "I'm not happy at this wedding". And then, somehow, in the middle of May, the guest on the right thought it was fine to bring out her gray fur chubby/mini coat. All I can say is #GURL ! But kids, these two weren't the only ones who went Wedding Koo Koo Couture...

Happy Hands At Home Dress and Lifesaver Fruit Dress Guest: Well, look what we have here--the guest on the left looks as if she took her old Laura Ashley 80's bed sheet or window drapes and felt fine in making a dress out of it. And then, in addition, decided an iridescent organza shawl would make a fine accessory. Speaking of accessories, what in the name of the FASHION GODS are those putrid brown shoes??? Let's move on to the guest on the right--I give this woman points for being "sassy" in this colorful striped ensemble. And the big hat screams "I'm a good friend of the Gays" and I will bet a couple of British pounds that she's a hoot at the open bar, but...this is just too 1992 for me. Especially those "Lifesaver Fruit Flavor"-like buttons.

Oh well, at least, I can still go back to this gorgeous dress:

Congratulations to the Happy Couple--Pippa Middleton and James Matthews!

Prince Albert and Charlene Royal Wedding: The Armani Prive Custom Gown!!!

Wedding Gown Perfection...

Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco

As you may know--from reading my blog--Prince Albert II of Monaco just wed Charlene Wittstock, a "commoner" (just like his mother, Princess Grace), former South African Olympic Swimmer born in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). The Civil Ceremony occurred yesterday and today was the Religious one--in other words: THE GOWN!!!!

Palace TV Screens: The Prince Albert and Charlene Royal Wedding, Monaco

The tiny Principality of Monaco was all "abuzz" this weekend for all the Royal Wedding festivities; streets were cleaned, flags were displayed and the Palace"Queened Out", as I like to say, for the Royal Wedding. It was "released" a while back that the bride--who as of yesterday is Princess Charlene of Monaco---was going to wear a wedding dress by Italian designer Giorgio Armani and his Armani Prive Haute Couture line.

Armani Silk: Princess Charlene of Monaco in her Armani Prive Custom Wedding Gown

Her gown was SUBLIME, to say the least: An off-the-shoulder fitted silk gown featuring a center front seam and French darts, as well as hand-embroidered Swarovski Austrian crystals. Princess Charlene--as I mentioned above--is an Olympic Swimmer and well, she has got a FAB shoulder-to-shoulder ratio--so it was no surprise that she would opt for an off-the-shoulder gown that would highlight this very strong physical feature of hers (not to mention the rest of her statuesque figure). It also makes sense to go the complete opposite of that infamous Princess Grace Wedding Gown from the 1956 wedding, designed by MGM Costume Designer Helen Rose (above).

The silhouette was "fit-and-flare" and also had a "Watteau"-like VERY LONG and DRAMATIC train that originated from her top back section (see photo above).

The silk tulle veil was perfectly draped above her up-do back chignon--which was accented by diamond hair jewelry. No tiara kids, in case you were wondering.

Her father walked her down the open air "Monaco Red Carpet" aisle and into the Palace Church. The wedding was picture perfect--just like the Bride and her over $100,000 Custom gown.

Goodbye August. Hello MSFW.

Monday 28th August

A quick lunch from that French place. A chicken lettuce and tomato baguette. Crunchy but not too Crunchy on the outside fluffy within. The filling was basic with no buttery spread or anything. Way too basic for $8. It was medium-ish sized. The way it was filled wasn't great with all the chicken on the side like it was just for show in a shop window... Not practical. Not spread out like subway. Wouldn't get this again. We prefer nhu lan.

Toroto at Nova. Cinema no.12. The screen is small for the movies, the smallest we've seen out of all the ones we've been to: the two mainstream ones, Como and lido (once). It's about the small size as our projector screen back home... But better quality id hope.
Slightly slanted but not enough if you're behind a girraft, row H is the one to pick it's higher, towards the back.

I still think toroto is a pedo! His grin is unnerving. I do love the music though. That's the best part. Le beau loved it as he saw it as a kid. I think as a kid it would be more magical. Before learning all these restrictions like you gotta keep your shoes on cause hook worm and potential infection... Also stranger danger and all.

Set in the country I can't quite tell when it's set but it would have been before the 40s? But one girl has a 50s dress. The speed of technology in the country is different also.
There's power lines, telegrams + 1920s two piece phone, water pump.

Someone said it just over a decade after the end of the Second World War - so the 50s! The dress was right! Miyazaki set the time as "when televisions were yet to be brought into homes". 1958 is the exact year, it's on calendar in aa scene.

I'm still coonfused why they moved to the country... is it because they're poor? Potentially it was to be close to their mother but she's still 3hrs away and they don't have a car.

The Cat Returns - Everyone knows when you go into another world if you eat the food you're normally trapped and yet the cat ate all the food anyway...

A girl saves a cat and could have died! She travels to two different cat worlds. We loved the typical secretary role with the brown cat that colouring that made it look like a Chinese girl. American voices though. The crazy king looks crazy XD

While the Prince has a minimal part and only two scenes we like him! He likes the pretty blue eyed white cat with the pink bow. She came from the real world before the movie started. Oddly the king accepts it and then wants main girl for himself... When he first comes to town it was hilarious how the security cars fought of the house cats.

The main girl doesn't really learn anything about her adventure when she gets back to the real world. 90s suburban. One of the only ghibli films that doesn't feel like a match for the others in terms of style. It was less je ne quoi? We quite liked it though but the ending I was hoping for something more... Maybe she meets a guy who reminds her of Baron?

MealPal Launch

Wednesday

Lunch with Mason Dixon via MealPal

Off to Lilydale for a dress fitting. Somehow my styling tends to lean on the Japanese school girl style x novice nun. XD

It's a different world out there. So much space! But at the same time the people make the town feel like trailer trash. Pants now worn 3/4 down your ass why even bother?
Alesha was an absolute pleasure! Her room looks like something out of a magazine, absolutely no clutter, like a guest room. We tried a few different dresses before picking a light grey one from Rodeo Show that would compliment the millennial pink well.

Back to the city. We're literally an hour away! The house is 15mins from the city - if you travel in between the peaks.

Ali's Wedding. Arriving just in time for Ali to say the lie to save himself and the family /friends from the shame of not getting a high score. Similar to 'The Big Sick' but with more emphasis on cultural differences. Big sick guy is older and has a bit more escape chance not living at home and being independent. While Ali's just finished high school, lives at home and his dad is the priest at their church opposite the house with a beautiful Rapunzel tower. Up north in Coburg (?) is this place real? Ali plays the mandolin. The church is a community and almost like living in a small country town, while being in Melbourne.

Pretty good though not as hilarious as 'The Big Sick ' which is similar in that it deals with immigrants with middle eastern cultures (not the main guy but more of the family) liking a girl they don't accept. Though Ali takes it a step further, it all starts with a lie. Tractor chases, deportation and shaming at church are some of the hilarious scenes.
.
Definitely go see it

Thursday

Lunch in between meetings at Zen. The salmon terrayaki bento is perfect!
I still don't like the bean sprouts but that's just me.

Aqua S. Coconut grainy. Pandan was good. We found the coconut was inedible, a sorbet they said. Always in the right machine. Gross. Not the flavour just texture. It's rare when it's grainy but I guess it's just one of those flavours. $8.

Cookies Dough

I think we had dinner at Mr Burger, according to the notes...
Burger was huge! I need a slider
Peach vinegar not BBQ
Tomato sauce not free
Crinkle cut chips light samboy seasoning

Friday

Finally we made it to Sushi Monger! Open exclusively for weekday lunch they're hard to catch though easy to find in a laneway off Bourke St.

After lunch we attended a lovely workshop hosted by Kikki K with Fontin, the
Dream. Do. Enjoy. Share. Journal Workshop. We identified our dreams, goals, talents and strengths. Worked out what our perfect mornings look like and compared them to our average ones.

It wasn't one of those boring sessions though, it was quick, snappy and fun, in a group of 8 girls. 2hrs condensed in to an abridged version of 30mins. I'm a fast learner so it wasn't overwhelming at all.

It definitely gave me the motivation to start working on some of my goals again.
Though the idea that life is about sharing moments with others make me feel iffy. All the ladies at dance says it's untimately about friends and family. But for me it's all about me, and what I'm up to, as I have very little relationships with anyone.

It's another shopping festival! Post coming up soon.

Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Gala Red Carpet: The Avant Garde or Avant Gauche!

Fashionista Prom: The Met Gala Red Carpet...Avant Garde or Avant Gauche??

The Fashion World is known for taking itself (sometimes) way too seriously and I for one, have been a victim of this. And this was no where more apparent than last night's Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Gala. This is the Red Carpet where EVERYONE tries to "bring it" in terms of FASHION! Some did it right and some well...see for yourself.

Here's my Portfolio of who
got "Avant Garde" Points (positive) and who got "Avant Gauche" ones (not so good!). Let's start with Miss Daphne Guinness, heiress to Guinness Beer:

Daphne Guinness in Alexander McQueen:
Now this is how you get it right! When you are honoring someone like Alexander McQueen and your date is Hamish Bowles, what else can you do but wear a feathered Gown! Avante Garde!

Serena Williams: And this is how you do a feathered gown wrong! I know she must have been inspired by the Royal Wedding when she chose that hat, but she looks like she is going to an Easter Service at a Southern Baptist Church rather than a party honoring a Couture King! Avant Gauche!

Christina Ricci in Zac Posen: This Gown which looks like it was knit from spiderwebs is just the type of gown you would expect from Christina and her edgy/dark personality. For someone who is probably about 5 feet tall, she looks statuesque and commanding...if only she could have done something more with her hair. Avant Garde!

Beyonce in Emilio Pucci: Miss Beyonce. Miss Beyonce. I give it to you in terms of the "overall gown". Beyonce has never met a Mermaid Shape she didn't like. This is no exception. However...it's the "peek-a-boo" lace "boobie things" (sorry for the un-Fashion Terminology) that are questionable. They look like "after-thought tattoos" or something of that matter. Unfortunately, because of this, I have to rate her an "Avant Gauche".

Margherita Missoni in Missoni: I love Missoni and I am a big fan of how the House of Missoni has taken their trademark weaving technique and really kept it alive with fresh and modern RTW Collections, but this dress missed the mark...and wait....are those pieces of her dress she has left trailing on the floor?? Messsss...Avant Gauche!

Iman in Stella McCartney: Admit it...as tacky as a gold sequin, bell-bottomed jumpsuit sounds on paper, Iman is workin' it! And let's not forget, this woman is 55 years old!! Let me say it right here and now: Iman has a CURRICULUM VITAE to wear this! And NO ONE ELSE does! Except maybe Bianca Jagger. Therefore, she gets an Avant Garde! from me.

Rihanna in Stella McCartney: Raggedy Ann-Meets-Pippi Longstocking-Meets Morticia. Enough Said. Lace over nude is all the rage this season, but it is something about the combination of the lace with the single sleeve and side train (?)! along with that crazy hair that makes the entire look all wrong. Avant Gauche. For sure. (sorry Miss Rihanna, still love you!)

Shalom Harlow in Marchesa: I'm on the "Fashion Fence" on this one. Love the gown, Hate the clip-on detail in her hair. I'll leave this one up to you guys: Avant Garde or Avant Gauche? What Do You Guys Think?

Anne Dello Russo in Alexander McQueen: Italy-born Editor at Large and Creative Consultant for Vogue Japan Anna Dello Russo wore an EGG on her HEAD!!! Hello??? Avant Garde. Period. No More Questions. She's just happy someone flew her First Class from Tokyo to NYC (a $15,000 flight thank you very much!) and she got to pack this. Just sayin'.
