Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 2013:

Beekeeper Chic: Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 2013

Alexander McQueen designer Sarah Burton unveiled her Spring/Summer 2013 offering at Paris Fashion Week and EVERYONE was a-buzz about it. Oh, and did I mention that the inspiration came from Beekeepers, honeycombs and bees?

The models' heads were covered in fashionista versions of beekeepers' veils. And the honeycomb-like print popped up in every variation (not to mention the buzzzz-ing bees soundtrack at the end). The collection was exquisite--for the most part--and very McQueen. Style.com said "The clothes they wore refracted a honeycomb motif
through a dozen wasp-waisted guises, bound, haltered, and harnessed in a
tortoiseshell that could quite equally have been a rich, sweet toffee.
The hyper-exaggerated female silhouette was derived from the pinups of
Alberto Vargas."

Beekeeper Chic: Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 2013

The suits were UBER fitted with rounded peplums, slim tulip'ed pencil skirts and capri pants--the SKINNIEST EVER!!--and with Princess seamed slits. Where Burton went a little "Oh Dear!" were the Scarlett O'Hara crinolined gowns that looked a little too much like a Carol Burnett/Bob Mackie sketch. Besides that--it was a FAB collection. And, as always with what is shown at an Alexander McQueen Runway Show, it will be very interesting to see what actually makes it to their stores --i.e. THE "Pippa" dress in various colors, black leather jackets, black sheath dresses, black pencil skirts and well, more black...

Joan Crawford in Adrian--halter gown and SUPER Shoulder padded gown

Viktor & Rolf Spring/Summer 2013 Collection at Paris Fashion Week was all about "Old Hollywood" and all very Joan Crawford. As Style.com says "Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren revisited old Hollywood today. There
was a black and white tile floor straight out of the Regency period, and
the models stepped onto the runway via an antique mirror, like visions
from the past. For clothes they wore long pleated gowns in black, white,
and silver lamé almost as reflective as that mirror, or pastel
georgette draped and swagged from necklines and waists embellished with
ropes of crystals. Shoulders were big and waists were tiny".

Paris Fashion Week Minute: Christian Dior and Balenciaga Spring/Summer 2013--Photos + FULL Runway Videos!!

DIVINE Dior PERFECTION and CHA-CHA Balenciaga Girl...

First Up--Christian Dior Spring/Summer 2013 by Raf Simons:

Strapless Chic: Christian Dior Spring//Summer 2013

For Belgian designer Raf Simons' first Dior Ready-to-Wear outing, he hit
a HOME RUN (his Haute Couture one was also a big HIT!). His Christian
Dior Spring/Summer 2013 Collection was PERFECTION. from beginning to
end. It was like "Galliano Who?" Any question that the Dior execs had
found their man, were squashed. This was Fashion for the 21st Century:
clean, minimalist, exquisite, interesting, UBER feminine, yet
very sexy. It referenced Dior's Bar Suit and jacket but took it to
another (rounded) level. The shapes were so directional and retail
friendly. My advice: I know Raf was just hired but...he already deserves

Cha Cha Ruffles for Nicolas Ghesquière? Well, oui!! For his Spring/Summer 2013 outing for the House of Balenciaga, he put --as Nichole Phelps of Style.com said-- "an utterly modern gloss on
intense study of the house's archives". His girl is VERY TOUGH CHIC but this time, he softened her just a bit by referencing the great master--Cristobal Balenciaga--and his love of ruffle and flounce:

First up...Gucci by Frida Giannini Spring/Summer 2013:

Designer Frida Giannini conjured up the heydays of Roman Couture and Italian Contessas taking their Summer vacations in Capri, Sardinia and Positano with her FABULOUS collection for Spring/Summer 2013.

It was very Marella Agnelli of the FIAT Agnelli's and Marisa Berenson--as Style.com noted. Azalea pinks, florals, stark ivory's, chartreuse, pastel blue, and so on. It was PURE elegance. Clean, simple tunics, shapeless dresses, ruffles galore. STUNNING!!!!!!!

Printed Beauties: Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2013

It was all about Sicily with Dolce & Gabbana's Spring/Summer 2013 Collection--but then again, when is it not. Street-theater puppet prints on dresses, skirts, tops, you name it--they were there. Raffia was also used--yes, like the Lucy Ball potato sack dress fabric! Whether or not that makes it to the stores (and if any woman will buy) will be fun to see. The Italian design duo also did stripes (a big trend for Spring/Summer 2013) in tunics, tops, and dresses of course. And lace--a big Dolce & Gabbana staple, was also quite evident. Viva Sicilia.
