No clownish dangling from zip wires, taking time off to write books or defend dodgy members of the Royal Family. Anne Hidalgo the mayor of Paris is a woman on a mission to defend the city's honour (rather than selling it off to foreign investors). When Fox News claimed that parts of Paris were 'no-go zones' for non-Muslims and Birmingham was a 'Muslim Only' city, the Brits showed their outrage by posting funny comments on Twitter #FoxNewsFacts. Over on the other side of the Channel, the 54-year-old mayor threatened to sue. Now that the Murdoch-owned station has apologised profusely to France and England, I can't help wishing London had a Madame la Maire.

The Georges Rech outfit in the final picture is on display at the Design Museum's Women, Fashion, Power exhibition. And there's a great interview with her in Vogue Paris.
Anne Hidalgo was born in Spain but has quoted the writer Sacha Guitry,' Being a Parisian is not about being born in Paris, it is about being reborn there.'
