Critics are divided as to whether Paul Simonon can actually paint - and I was wondering whether his exhibition 'Wot No Bike' should've been called 'What No Perspective.' But, no matter. Lifelong Clash fans (like myself) are going to pay pilgrimage to the bass player's latest show at the ICA, regardless. Simonon was the one who provided The Clash's artistic direction with his Jackson Pollock-inspired paint splatters and DIY stencils. The 59-year-old punk painter now creates still life pictures of his collection of biker jackets and boots, with a couple of fag packets and ashtrays thrown in. Baillie Walsh's short film, recorded to go with the exhibition, is really quite lovely.
And just because...
Paul Simonon's Wot No Bike is on at the ICA until 6 Feb 2015.
