The Lobby Bar at One Aldwych London

Another favourite location of mine in Central London is the glamorous One Aldwych hotel, nested on the cusp of Covent Garden, and its attractive and airy Lobby Bar. There is nothing more comforting than heading over to their nice and warm, cozy retreat in between shows during Fashion Week season, to enjoy a steaming hot tea pot of their concise yet, delectable tea selection, including chocolate blends, Earl Grey lavender options and a rare sugarcane China black tea from the mountains of Yunnan. Too bad the British Fashion Council has relocated the mains events to the chic neighborhoods of SoHo this season, which might make my short trips to the Lobby Bar a little less frequent...

But, there is always room for l'apéro, or post-workday celebrations with one (or a few!) of the Lobby Bar's London Fashion Week themed cocktails, especially curated each season in observance of the major events taking over the city. The One Aldwych hotel is renowned for its fresh and inventive drink carte which mixes together champagne varieties, 63 original cocktails and 22 martinis, including some of the best in the capital ! Of these, a divine mix of Tanqueray London Dry, rose liqueur, homemade jasmine syrup and lemon juice was beautifully presented, paying tribute to British Fashion designer Alice Temperley, while a Calvin Klein inspired concoction called 'New York, New York', reuniting Tanqueray No. 10, rhubard liqueur, Martini Bianco, fresh pomagranate seeds and lemon bitters within a chilled coupette glass was delicate and refreshing. I am certainly planning on returning in a few weeks to give their Apple Martini and Salted Caramel Martini a try ;)

And because my mother taught me to never drink on an empty stomach(!), I gravitated a little while around the snack options before opting for the organic gravadlax and crab fishcakes on one day, and pork rillettes and grilled focaccia for another one. The short food menu also includes mini steak burgers, British charcuterie and other small bites, prettily presented on wooden boards and ideal for sharing. Along with my tea, I like to enjoy the Lobby's Afternoon Tea menu, consisting of decadent golden eggs, blueberry brioche and playful flavoured candy floss ! Teatime treats at the One Aldwych hotel are presented with a selection of award-winning loose leaf teas and infusions from Canton Tea, each of which has been chosen to complement the delicate flavours from the kitchen. Add on £10 to your reservation for a glass of champagne upon arrival.

With such a chic and relaxing atmosphere, as well as with a slick and friendly service, it is the perfect place to start or end an evening, meet in between events or clocking in some extra hours of work on-the-go !
