SHISEIDO'S GUIDE TO SUN CARE

Happy Sunday everyone !

With the weather getting warmer and warmer, I got to kick-off Tennis season last week. Needless to mention that after such rough Winter months, it feels amazing to shake things off with some outdoor physical activity. And when it comes to outdoor sports, you always want to make sure you take a multi-pronged approach to protecting your skin from the dangers of the sun. This is why I rely on Shiseido's 'Wet Force' Ultra Sun Protection Lotion, a UV protection that teams up with water for extra performance on and off the court.

GOLDEN RULES OF SUN PROTECTION

Tennis, just like any other outdoor, warm weather activies, generally requires athletes to wear only minimal clothing, thus risking skin damage from sun exposure, which can be short term, such as sunburns, or long term, such as skin cancer and photo aging. A great way to prevent sun damage is to use broad spectrum sunscreens with SPF ranging from 30 to 50. Sunscreens should be applied one half hour before going outdoors and reapplied every hour or more often if sunny, if swimming, if perspiring.

Shiseido suncare tip #1: Water has a particularly high rate of reflectivity–so when you're enjoying water sports or any high intensity level activities that might caus you to sweat, don't forget to use broad spectrum sun-protection products with a higher SPF.

Also, keep in mind that sun exposure between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM should be avoided as harmful UV rays are more intense over that period of time. Instead, prefer outdoor activities early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Using sunscreens shouldn't be a reason for you to stay out longer; they were not designed so that you could spend the whole day out in the sun.

Shiseido suncare tip #2: One way to get the most from sunscreen is to use a higher SPF, keeping in mind that research shows there is no additional benefit from SPF over 50, and that using a higher SPF sunscreen does not mean that one can use less.

A PERFECT MATCH

Ever since I've started using Shiseido's 'Wet Force' Ultra Sun Protection Lotion, I have noticed a difference in the way my skin would react to sun exposure. Even though I do not sun burn easily, I'm still able to witness the harmful impacts of UV rays on my skin with the formation of dark spots, beauty spots, freckles and etc. I used to get those out a lot, especially during Summer time, and when my doctor noticed how fast they would multiply year after year, she reminded me of the importance of being careful when hanging out in the sun and taught me everything there is to know about practicing safe sun ;)

As a former Tennis player herself, she introduced me to the 'Wet Force' sun care line from Shiseido; a safer, stronger UV protection powered by continued contact with water or sweat and formulated to maintain its performance when exposed perspiration. It's unique formula for both face and body also includes beneficial ingredients to help prevent skin dryness. It provides the highest sun protection needed, yet is comfortable and gentle on the skin.

Shiseido suncare tip #3: To activate 'Wet Force' technology, expose the applied area to water for 15 minutes or sweat for 30 minutes.

HOW TO APPLY

1. Start with your cheeks and forehead, then move in an outward direction.

2. Apply to several spots on the neckline and blend in an upward direction from the base of the neck.

3. Be sure to cover the areas between the eyebrows, the hairline, the edge of the chin, the outer side of the nostrils and the ears.

Shiseido suncare tip #4: Every new Shiseido suncare product launched is now formulated with the Super Veil-UV 360™ technology which creates a UV-protective veil that adheres evenly to skin's microscopic contours. So no matter which angle the UV rays come from, the veil helps prevent them from reaching deep within, providing effective protection.

1. Using the palm of your hand pressed flat against your skin, blend and smooth the product in an outward direction using large circular motions.

2. Don't forget the sides of your arms and legs, and your shoulders and chest. They burn easily, too !

Shiseido suncare tip #5: Rays that age skin (UVA) will increase vulnerability to melanomas. Rays that burn skin (UVB) are mostly prevalent between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. The effect of UV rays varies by how much light is directly absorbed by the skin as well as by the amount reflected by the surrounding environment.
