PARIS COUTURE WEEK FALL 2016: Atelier Versace

“This collection is different for me. I put a lot of attention on draping, and less on embroideries and super-sexy.”
That is what Donatella Versace told Vogue straight after her latest couture show in Paris, and I couldn’t agree more: It seems like that when she is not totally focused on delivering ultra-sexy looks, her creativity reaches new heights.
An example? Just look at Karen Elson stunning outfit: the top model opened the show wearing a dusty pink cashmere coat lined with shimmery blue satin, deliberately revealing an asymmetrically cut wine-colored bustier. You would never call this a Versace design at first sight (the shoes are giving me Dior vibes, btw), but it is impressive that we can do it now.
Donatella has been stealing my heart with her latest collections: we are witnessing an incredible evolution of an iconic brand, that has finally learned how to continuously surprise its audience, delivering exquisite designs.
So as you might imagine, the most memorable pieces of the entire collection were coats and jackets: colourful, smooth, luxurious and yes…practical.
However the experimentation did not stop there: Donatella showed again her signature asymmetric cuts in most of the evening dresses, but this time she upgraded them with a large use of draping and fabric mixes. The color palette kept a pastel tone for light colors, while black and red tones preserved a richer shade.
An interesting and compelling work (even though not all the evening look would work on the red carpet or in real life), able to reinforce my love for Italian fashion: thank you Donatella!
