One of the most important things you should take away from this article is how to protect your suede. Suede is one of those materials because it's naturally porous (it's not treated like leather) and doesn't have any natural water-repelling qualities. First you need to wait until the suede is dry before you tackle it with a brush or cloth – when suede is wet the bristles are fragile and rubbing at them will cause tear in the fabric, and liquids can stain the fabric, cause it to change shape and even cause the dye to run. Taking care of suede shoes is fairly straight forward; you don’t polish suede, you use the suede brush gently, sweeping in short, gentle strokes to freshen up the nap of the fabric, if you can try follow the grain of the fabric. Use shoe trees to maintain shape and resole when needed.
