8 Times Michelle Obama Was The Most Stylish First Lady of The United States of America

As the Obama era at the White house is officialy coming to an end, we wanted to take a moment to appreciate the often grandiose, often down-to-earth, but ever so First Lady-esque wardrobe of America's other-half, Michelle Obama.

Here is all the proof you need that the First Lady could spectacularily pull-off anything, from statuesque one-shoulder gowns, to elegant and formal cocktail dresses, to jaw-dropping metallic numbers, to the most exquisite prints and patterns. Michelle has looked positively dashing throughout the Obama's admistration and her style game never seemed to have failed, over time.

Ahead of the election of the 45th President of the United States of America, next Tuesday, somehow marking the end of Michelle's numerous stylish public appearances (sniff, sniff!), we've rounded up the 8 times the FLOTUS was in fact, the best-dressed First Lady of the U.S (BDFLOTUS, as we like call her)…

The One Trend Seen at Every Major Show During Fashion Preview Spring 2017

One of the very best revelations of the Fashion Preview Spring 2017 presentations was the unveiling of an unsuspected it-colour for the warmer season... Prepare yourself for a brightness overdose and get your freshest whites ready for the melting of the snow because next Spring, our warderobes will be experiencing a total whiteout!

From monochrome outfits, to surprisingly chic slouchy blouses, to new, modern takes on the little white dress, to white accessories for a classy girls' night out, get gussied up with a new HR-approved approach to the stark style and stuck up on some Tide to-go (fears of spillage and stains abound!), as crisp, all-white styles were a fixture on the Spring'17 catwalks.

Spring's whites usually tend to reflect a lovely mix of influences, from Victoriana to virginal dressing. What really stood out at Claudette Floyd for Sring 2017 was the craftsmanship behind every pieces of the collection: fine lace, modern ruffled embellishment, new ways to tie and lace-up garments and delicate cutwork elevated her designs from pretty to infinitely precious.

Worked whites was definitely the theme at Leinad Beaudet Spring 2017 but don't be deceived into thinking this was as straightforward as it looked... Whether you are an adept of the romantic whites and affectionate a good destructured blouse, or an admirer of the clean, precise look of a pop of white on your accessories, the LB aesthetic will chime with your newfound wardrobe clarity.

Precisely white, DUY's vision of Spring 2017 was the orchestration of a wardrobe whiteout in which, the creator sensed an urgent need for purity and calm as opposed to the saturation in dark colours that punctuates our Autumn outfits. As he explored the soothing potential of white throughout his entire collection, he made us the gift of the little white dress in a new, fanciful update that exudes femininity.

In Naïké Spring 2017's case, we're willing to take a chance on crispier whites and separate pieces. There's actually so much you can do starting with a single-colour palette, without feeling like your always dressed in the same way. Plus, white is an approved desk-to-dinner hue that decomplexes the often jolly, often head-aching task of putting together a full look. After all, it's essentially a blank canvas and focal point of an outfit!

For Spring 2017, Helmer is making a case for monochrome and we couldn't be happier! There is something super fresh about ditching dark colours and embracing fairer hues for the warmer temps., in fact, a total white outfit has been a major hit for quite some times now. Make a statement in this foolproof trend and don your whites to get you in the monochromatic mindset next Spring.

If there's one shoe silhouette that reigns supreme for Spring, it is all-white sneakers. In fact, this trend cropped up on everyone from fashion makers to influencers for many seasons now and just last week, the masterminds behing Yoga Jeans proved us that the trend also was a perfect match with your best denim.

6 Savvy-Shopper Tips For The Girl Who Wants (read, NEEDS!) to Shop KENZO x H&M

Another day, another tidbit of information about the upcoming KENZO x H&M collaboration that will roar in stores as of tomorrow morning. After months and months of teasers, sneaky peeks, a star-studded campaigns and yet, another major runway show in New York, H&M latest capsule collection designed in collaboration with the parisian brand has now finally touched base in the motherland. The 110-piece range is said to include some of KENZO's funniest work yet, ruffled matryoshka-inspired maxi dresses, faux fur jackets in a patchwork of neon hues, floral print palazzo pants and cropped, off-the-shoulder peasant blouses with coordinating maxi skirts.

** Screams internally **

Now, I know an H&M designer partnership launch is always the craziest time of the season and getting your hand on THAT particular piece you’ve been drooling over for the past 6 months can become quite an obsession yet, still very challenging. I’ve been myself a strong supporter of the movement ever since the infamous Versace x H&M collaboration a few years back and with time, if there is one thing I witnessed so far it’s that, shopping those exclusive collections always is ultra-competitive. So competitive, that you may need, as a matter of fact, a good shopping strategy to go through the whole process with ease. Let's talk savvy-shopper tips & tricks for the girl who wants (read here, NEEDS) to shop the KENZO x H&M collection tomorrow...

1) Make a Top 10 List

Build up a mental list of everything you’d be interested in getting yourself before every major shopping spree. Try to keep it down to your top 10, this way, you won't go overboard, confusing wants, needs and just plain useless-but-so-pretty's ;) At this time, you don't have to take under consideration prices as we’ll get down to that in the following steps; basically, anything that would make you happy and could be of a great use is welcome on that list!

To make up you mind, also check out available lookbooks and inspiration boards so you can see the bigger picture when it comes to purchasing statement pieces likes boots, coats and evening wear. Basics, including tees, underwear, socks and bottom pieces generally come up on a need vs. want base.

2) Evaluate Your Wants vs. Needs

Once you're satisfied with your list, take the time to go through every single item, one by one, and ask yourself: Is that a want or a need? Then, prioritize your needs over your wants until you top off your allowed budget and if you have some extra pocket money left (you'd have been quite good already!), add on those pieces you don't need urgently but would still enjoy very much owning in your closet ;) This way, you'll end up happy about your purchases and won't have second thoughts nor regrets !

3) Fix Yourself a Budget

Speaking of budget, every good serial shopper will tell you that shopping without a pre-fixed budget can be a pretty bad idea… If you want to operate some damage control on your bank account, I recommend fixing yourself a reasonable budget, keeping in mind to include taxes (especially you my Canadian pals!). Then, take a 10-15% chunk off that initial amount that will act as a buffer on your wallet, preventing you to go too overboard with last-minute coups de coeur !

It goes without saying, do respect your budget once at the store (laughs).

4) Figure Out WHEN and WHERE You're Going to Shop

In store

With designer collaborations being more and more popular every year, there are a few things to keep in mind for a great shopping experience in-store… First check out H&M's Store Locator page to find the location closest to you that will stock the collection. To all my Canadians gals, I've got you covered on this one (Pssst... This year the collection is available at the Laval store!):

BURNABY
Metropolis at Metrotown

MONTREAL
St. Catherine St. West at Peel St.

LAVAL
3035 Boulevard le Carrefour

TORONTO
Bloor Street West
Toronto Eaton Centre
Yorkdale Shopping Centre

VANCOUVER
The Pacific Centre

Then, keep in mind that doors will open at 8:00 AM (local time) on November 3rd, and that you may want to get there a little early (or a lot… I've seen people starting to queue on the night before the launch of the Balmain x H&M collection last year!) to secure your spot in the queue among the first costumers. I'm insisting on this point because as they did with their previous designer collabs', H&M will hand out coloured bracelets to the first 420 people in line; 14 colours with one for each group of 30 customers, to be precise. Your colour will determine when it will be your time to shop in the designer collection area.

Each group will have 10 minutes to shop. There will be 5 minutes between each group for re-stocking. Also, the bracelets are only for customers shopping the KENZO x H&M collection so if you are not in the first 420, you can still shop in the store as the bracelet system only applies to the designer collaboration. After the last group is done shopping, H&M will open the designer collection area to all customers !

Online

The collection will go live at 8:00 AM (Eastern Time) on hm.ca/kenzo so my tip to you is to do your timezone math and set a calendar alert! For the best chance at actually getting what you put in your cart, be sure to set up an account on hm.com in advance and remember to save your shipping and billing details so your checkout goes smoothly, quick and easy! Online shopping regulars will agree with me on this one, this last step will SAVE YOUR LIFE !

5) Keep in Mind the Purchase Restrictions

Very often, if you are planning on getting up bright and early on November 3rd to go and join the queue to shop the collection at 8:00 AM precisely, you might end up with some friends or family commisioning you to make a purchase or two on their behalf. Happens to me every year! To avoid any type of confusion, dissapointment or troubles at cashwrap, keep in mind that to allow as many customers as possible to buy from the KENZO x H&M collection, H&M will be limiting purchases to no more than two items per product.

The way I understand it is that, when it comes to shoes and garments, you will most likely have to choose two different sizes if purchasing the same pieces twice. As for accessories, if there is no sizing involved, you'll be allowed to purchase up to two, top.

This applies to all items in the collection.

6) Get Familiar With the Return Policy

So you arrived extra early to make sure to secure yourself a spot in the queue among the 420 first customers. You're in ! Somehow, when it's time to browse the collection, try on a few sizes and, pick and choose what you ultimately want to buy, the frenzy surrounding an exclusive collection  launch on a Thursday morning can definitely become overwelhming and get on your nerves. If you're not feeling like waiting around for a changing room or to get in line at cashwrap for God knows how long, you can always pick up the pieces you might be interested in (remember, no more than two per item!), purchase everything and try it on/make up your mind quietly at home. It is indeed a great thing that returns from the designer collections are now accepted within the next 7 days!

Be careful though, items must be returned to THE STORE OF ORIGINAL PURCHASE with YOUR ORIGINAL RECIEPT. Items must also be UNWORN/UNUSED with TAGS ATTACHED. Lastly, I would assume that, just like in every other store, earrings and underwear may not be returned for hygienic reasons, of course!

As for online purchases, returns in the original form of payment on items that are returned WITHIN THE NEXT 7 DAYS from the date the package is delivered are now accepted, although all online purchases MUST BE RETURNED VIA MAIL. At this time, H&M does not offer online returns in stores and items must be UNWORN/UNUSED with TAGS ATTACHED.

6 Most Jaw-Dropping Trends of The Season Seen at Fashion Preview Spring 2017

Fun, feminine, flirty, if it's one (or all!) of those things next Spring, it's in!

The message was pretty clear during last week's Fashion Preview presentations in Montreal as designers enlined on one same vision, not without a few diversions. And with so many new collections available every season, it is easy to get confused with what to wear for the months to come, even though this season, a handful of brands (koff, koff.. hey Lovan M., Tommy Hilfiger and Alexander Wang) cleverly look at fashion from a different eye, offering their take on the see-now, buy-now model and presented clothes immediately for sale, straight from the runway. But hey, don't panic here, we got your back as always ;)

From major ruffles to hourglass figures, here is PBTH's edit of the best trends spotted on the runways last week. Scroll down to see all the trends that reigned on the recent runways...

Ampler, slouchier and more extravagant than ever, the new trench coat is all about nailing that effortless I-just-threw-this-on vibe without undermining the sofistication of midi-lenght coats. New, extended silhouettes will make your old beige trench look like it's in need of some definite vacations to regain healthy colours, which is exactly what you'll give it: time off!

Great minds think alike they say, and great designers will always share a like for some collection staples such as lust-worthy pinks and other feminine hues. For Spring 2017, it will not be your average pink-pink... We're talking delicate shades of rose that are easy to pair with other spring-y colours and that will enhance and soften any look you may be going for.

Live fast, die young, bad girls do it well! Far from us the idea that you should die at a young age or that adopting a fast-paced lifestyle is the optimal way to live your life as a young adult(!), but there is just something about this DGAF attitude that has been seen on the runways lately. If you ask us, this might be your one-way ticket straight to the cool kid's table this year, whether you choose to feature a good rip, hide under you hoodie, sport a total black outfit or rock dark shades at all time of the day.

Ruffles aren't just for flirty dresses anymore... Next Spring, we're wearing them on everything, as they'll transpose on your favourite jackets, tops, sleeves and even on your workout gear! Turn everyday wear into special-occasion pieces with an asymmetrical ruffle, a floucy finish or a more structured emblishement, and make your wardrobe more versatile than ever.

Are you surprised to see that waist trainer of yours you've been trying to keep a secret forever make its fashion debut on the runways? So did we! With hourglass figures gaining more and more popularity amongst fashionistas of all ages, you can now turn to your closet to give you those extra curves you are coveting or simple to cinch your waist a notch more for added drama (or just for a little extra help!) ;)

From the designers creating pieces for the girl that's out-and-about, to those who rules the athleisure game, it seems like everyone had a taste for taupes and earthy colours this season. Even the bombshell has now embraced practicality! Never thought you’d head to the gym, go out to eat at a fancy restaurant, walk through the office or meet your in-laws in a full-on khaki ensemble? Prepare to be amazed.
