Nick Verreos on TV Minute: CNN International

Red Carpet Commentatin'...

Nick Verreos on CNN International's "World Report" News Program--CNN Studios, Hollywood

Last Sunday, while most of Hollywood was attending fabulous and fun Emmy Awards parties, I was workin' ! But don't feel bad for me, it was fun work--besides doing my LIVE Blogging of what the stars wore at the Emmy Awards Red Carpet here on my blog--

I also got the call to do CNN International and their "World Report" News Program to give my picks for the "Best" and the "Not So Much" from the red carpet.  I went to the CNN Los Angeles studios and headquarters in Hollywood and got ready for my segment.

"World Report" CNN International Anchor John Vause

The anchor was John Vause--who reported from Atlanta--while I was in a small studio back in Hollywood. I had a great time injecting some of my "Fashion Knowledge" as well as fun commentary in the segment.

Some of my top picks included Sofia Vergara in the sequined Zuhair Murad gown as well as Heidi Klum in her chiffon double-slit Alexandre Vauthier dress.

And in my "Oh Dear" list was the beautiful and very talented Julianne Moore in the chartreuse Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall 2012 gown. I got a nice laugh from John Vause--the CNN International anchor--when I compared the gown to a Teletubby. It's a beautiful gown--and it is HANDMADE COUTURE--probably costing about $80,000 but it seemed a little garish against her perfect alabaster skin and gorgeous red hair.

The segment was over before I knew it, and I was back in the car, back home to get some rest before getting up very early to then film my TV Guide Network Emmy Awards Fashion Wrap the following morning--just another Awards Weekend in LA-LA Land! Thank You CNN and CNN International--and John Vause, for being a GREAT sport!

Sunday night was the 64th Annual Emmy Awards. So, naturally, this meant one thing: the Emmy Awards TV Guide Network Fashion Wrap time! I was so excited to be back for another TV Guide Network Fashion Wrap with the GORGEOUS Hostess with the Mostess, actress Ali Landry .

The Set: TV Guide Network Studios Emmy Awards 2012 Fashion Wrap set

Also joining the TV Guide Network Emmy Awards Fashion Wrap family was my "Sister from another Mister", Tabatha Coffey of "Tabatha Takes Over" and Kyle Richards from Bravo's hit reality show "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" (and wife of that HOT & HUNKY Mauricio Umansky). We had a BLAST doing the Emmys 2012 Red Carpet Fashion Recap!

I wore my ASOS vanilla "dinner jacket" with black shawl collar lapel, ASOS shiny tuxedo pants, skinny black tie, TopMan pink dress shirt and Brooks Brothers pink-and-white pocket scarf.

Miss Tabatha Coffey wore a laser-cut leather Alexander McQueen jacket with a high collar and peplum that fit her like a GLOVE--along with a black tank and legging...

She finished it all off (FABULOUSLY!) with a pair of laser-cut patent leather Christian Louboutin UBER heels. Ali wore one of my latest NIKOLAKI silk chiffon printed "Spartan Princess" gowns:

The gown features over 15 yards of Italian silk, is fitted at the waist and has an "Armour" panel in the front and full strapless bustier, full gathered skirt and side slit. The print features a lot of the colors that well, were a HIT on the EMMYS 2012 Red Carpet (naturally!).

Of course, I think she looked AMAZING and oh so beautiful!

TV Costume Heaven:

Stewardess Fab: Costumes from ABC series "Pan Am", Pilot Costumes by Chrisi Karvonides, Series Costumes by Ane Crabtree, 6th Annual Outstanding Art of Television Costume Design Exhibition, FIDM Museum and Galleries (photo courtesy of Alex J. Berliner/ABImages)

Where can you find Pan Am Stewardesses, a Dowager Countess, an Evil Queen, and Marylin Monroe-inspired "NBC's Smash" gold gown? Oh yes, in Downtown LA of course! Well, fashionistas and costume design aficionados, Tuesday was the Opening Day of the 6th Annual Outstanding Art Television Costume Design Exhibition at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising/FIDM, my alma mater, and college of which I am the Official Fashion Spokesperson.

The exhibition, presented by FIDM Museum and Galleries and Academy of
Television Arts and Sciences, was Guest Curated by Mary Rose,
Costume Designer and President of the Costume Designers Guild. It features over 75
(!) costumes from a variety of TV shows (sixteen of them), period and contemporary, including
seven nominated for an Emmy® for Outstanding Achievement in Costume
Design
. This past weekend, a VIP reception/party was held at the FIDM Campus to "unveil" this fabulous new exhibition. Guests included:

(Left to right) Eduardo Castro, Costume Designer for ABC's "Once Upon A Time" (he was also the Costume Designer for ABC's "Ugly Betty"!) and Julie Weiss (love her oversized paillette tunic-dress!) Costume Designer for many films including "American Beauty" "Frida" "The Ring" and (my personal favorite) "Blades of Glory" (photo courtesy of Alex J. Berliner/ABImages)

Now, let's get to the costumes at the exhibition. Like I said at the top of this post, there are over 75 costumes featured and some of the highlights include:

Nick Verreos and KTLA-TV's Gayle Anderson, 6th Annual Outstanding Art of Costume Design Costume Design Exhibition, FIDM Museum

On Monday, I had the pleasure of filming some Morning TV segments for KTLA-TV Channel 5 LIVE direct from the FIDM Museum and the brand new exhibition with the always fantastic (and my TV Production Segment MUSE!) Gayle Anderson. We had such a blast filming these segments. Miss Gayle is my "sister from another mister" darlings! LOVE her. As a special VIP treat, two of the Emmy® nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Costume
Design costume designers from this past year--Ruth Myers ("Hemingway and Gellhorn") and Chrisi Karvonides ("American Horror Story")--were there for some of the KTLA-TV Morning Show interviews at FIDM Museum so I had the honor of meeting them and of course, getting some behind-the-scenes costume design DISH.

Nick Verreos and Costume Designer Chrisi Karvonides: I had such a ball chatting with Chrisi---she also designed the costumes for ABC's "Pan Am" series pilot so she gave me such great behind-the-scenes dish on the Pan Am stewardess uniforms (you know I LOVE me some Stewardess Uniforms!!).

As you can see from the photo above, Costume Designer Chrisi Karvonides and I were in some SERIOUS "Wait, how many pattern pieces to that Pan Am pill box hat? And the Pan Am logo was actually GOLD!!??" conversation. LOVED every minute of it!

Nick TV Minute: Nick Verreos and Mondo Guerra on "Road to the Runway Season 10" Casting Special

Road to the Runway Commenting Twosome...

Colorful Twosome: Mondo Guerra and Nick Verreos, behind the scenes, "Road to the Runway Season 10" TV special

As we know, last Thursday night was the premiere of Season 10 Project Runway. In the lead up to the big show, Lifetime had a very special "Project Runway Season 10: Road to the Runway" show devoted to revealing who the new sixteen designers/contestants are, a little background on each and every one of them plus some extra dish.

It was hosted by the gorgeous Zanna Roberts Rassi and well, I was asked to be part of the show (yeayyy!!) and give my "Nick Two Cents" on the new crop of designers and who I thought would make it to the Final Three. I had the EXTREME pleasure of doing the show with Project Runway All Stars Season One winner, Mondo Guerra. We had GREAT fun filming our segments and when we were together, I felt like the two Muppets old men--Statler and Waldorf-- in the balcony!! Lifetime should hire us to do commentary for EVERY episode (I'm just sayin'!).

Judging the LA Castings (left to right) Nick Verreos, Mondo Guerra, Abby Gardner

For Season 10, I was one of the co-judges for the Los Angeles Castings, along with Mondo and the lovely Abby Gardner, site director for Marie Claire. So, I had some insight into several of this season's designers, especially since THREE--count 'em--THREE, of the ones we said "yes" to during the LA Castings, actually made the final cut (Beatrice Guapo, Elena Slivnyak and Melissa Fleis).

For the filming, Mondo was looking all things cute in a TopMan shorts suit (he's a 34 chest!! Bi***!!!), yellow dress shirt and little bow tie.

I chose to wear my neon coral-colored ASOS jacket, Zara jeans, TopMan dress shirt, Etro striped tie and Hermes pocket scarf. Usually people say what and who their wearing because the clothing was borrowed but in our case we BOUGHT everything--I'm just mentioning it in case inquiring minds wanted to know!

Anyhow, back to the fun "Road to the Runway Season 10" show we filmed...

If you missed it this past Thursday, you can click HERE to watch the entire episode!!

Prom King and Queens--Nick Verreos on KNBC "Today In LA: Weekend" News Program: The Recap!

Prom Perfect!

Peacock Prince: Nick Verreos, NBC-LA Studios Burbank California

This past Sunday, I did a fun and very FABULOUS TV segment on KNBC-LA, Channel 4 "Today in LA: Weekend" News Show. It was ALL ABOUT Prom Dressing! Yes, kiddies, it's "Prom Season" and I, your faithful Style Guy, is here to show all the lovely Prom Princesses--how to get the best deals in Prom Fashion--via the FIDM Scholarship Store.

On TV: Nick Verreos on KNBC "Today In LA: Weekend" News Show, Prom Dresses TV Segment

As you know, I am the Official Spokesperson for the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM (as well as an Instructor and Alumn) and when I found out that the FAB FIDM Scholarship Store had a whole lot of new Prom Dress options donated by TOP DESIGNERS, well, I just had to "Shout it to the LA TV World"!

Prom Color Kings: KNBC-LA Anchor Ted Chen and Nick Verreos, "Today In LA: Weekend" Studio

On Sunday, I filmed a LIVE "Prom Dress" TV segment with Anchor Ted Chen, who--by the way --was looking very "Nick" in his bright turquoise blue shirt and striped tie! I showed three Prom Looks--all from the FIDM Scholarship Store and ALL from UNDER $40! In case you didn't know, many Big Name Designers and Manufacturers donate their clothing to the store and then, the store sells them at DEEPLY discounted prices with ALL proceeds creating FIDM student scholarships. So, yes, I LOVE the FIDM Scholarship Store!

I brought three beautiful girls from LA Models Agency to show the looks:

Don't Want To Wear a Dress for The Prom? Then Take a look at this FAB ensemble...

First up was the stunning Aleah--This look I dubbed "The Individualist": This was the perfect option for the girl who doesn't want to go the dress and/or gown option for the Prom. So, I put her in wide-legged black pants, a silver lame top and accessorized the look with fingerless lace gloves and a FAB fascinator.
The Total Look: $19! (Hello!)

Short & Sassy: Model Katie in a purple dress from the FIDM Scholarship Store, KNBC-TV Segment

Katie was the next model, and I put her in a "Short & Sassy" purple party dress with side shirring and cascading ruffles. Lace fingerless gloves--a la Madonna circa 1985--and a Camelia flower and ribbon hair adornment finished off her look.
The Total Look: $30!!! ( The dress is only $24)

One-Shoulder Prom: Model Kaela in one-shoulder gown from the FIDM Scholarship Store, KNBC-TV Segment

Next, it was all about "Hollywood Red Carpet Glamour". Kaela wore a one-shoulder "Grecian Goddess" mauve-colored side-shirred gown that is priced at only $35!!! This is a big-name designer gown that would retail for $500! (Get OUTTA here!!!)

Prom Queen: Model Martha, wears a gown from the FIDM Scholarship Store, KNBC-TV Segment

Finally, Martha finished off my "Nick Verreos Presents Prom Looks" KNBC-LA segment, showing a baby blue-and-white strapless ball gown that--wait for it--was priced at $24! Not kidding. Of course, I styled her on the "funky side"...

And gave her red Converse "Chucks" high-tops, so she would be that "funky" Prom Princess!!! I was inspired by Academy Award-nominated actress Hailee Steinfeld from "True Grit" who showed up to the Vanity Fair Party wearing her Custom Marchesa tea-length gown---and her Converse "Chucks". Thanks Hailee (or her stylist) for that inspiration!

All in all, it was a fabulous segment and it was great to have the opportunity to show these four very chic--but still "budget-priced"-- Prom Looks, just in time for Prom Season. Mommies and daughters: Get thee to the FIDM Scholarship Store and shop shop shop!!!

Nick Verreos Goes To The Prom!! Watch tomorrow (Sunday) morning on KNBC-Channel 4 "Today In LA" Weekend Edition 7-8AM
