Runway Report: Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week--Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2012--Photos + Runway Video!

Androgyny, Turban, Top Hat, and Roaring Twenties COUTURE:

Maharaja meets Cross Dressing Couture: Designer Jean Paul Gaultier and "Le Mariage" finale model, Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2012

Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week continues and I, of course, feel it my Fashion Duty to bring you highlights (from my fashion "home-office" in LA!). Today, it's Jean Paul Gaultier. The "bad boy" of couture showed his Fall/Winter 2012 collection based on Pete Doherty, star of the Sylvie Verheyde's adaptation of nineteenth century poet Alfred de Musset's Confession of a Child of the Century.

Top Hat Wedding: The Final Look, Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2012

Poet de Musset's grand amour
was the novelist George Sand, who scandalized mid-nineteenth century
Paris by wearing men's clothes and smoking in public and Gaultier's
collection saluted this in all its glory on the runway.

Model
Erin O'Connor
opened the show as Sand, in top hat, tailcoat, and
gentleman's le smoking tailcoat. There was Gaultier's creative take on le trench, lots of top hats and gorgeous coats. tailored pants fit like exquisite gowns (hello, it's Haute Couture kids!).

Trouser Couture: Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2012

Six foot tall+ Supermodel Karlie Kloss (above photo, left) glided on the catwalk with a sheer and sparkly sequined loose jumpsuit topped by a bolero jacket, scarf and platform heels. Black and white prevailed but for the gowns and evening wear, there were bolts of color and roaring twenties silhouettes...

Netting Queen: Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2012

Accessorized with a netting "cap" (netting is THE accessory of the season it seems!).

Roaring Twenties Divas: Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2012

Oh and did I mention Gaultier's Top Hat-and-Turban'ed Boys:

Runway Report: Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week--Givenchy Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2012

Caped and Fringed COUTURE Gypsies:

Givenchy Tableux: Givenchy Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2012

Designer Riccardo Tisci showed his Givenchy Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2012 Collection this week in Paris with a Look Book-like presentation with close-up viewings for editors and fashion glitterati alike. Tisci, who has become the go-to guy for Gothic Gorgeousness (hello Rooney Mara!) and elegant warrior princesses with dark, mystic touches. For this season, the imagery went into a Gypsy-like world. There were sumptuous capes, lined in painstakingly hand-beaded sequins and sable mink (it's Haute Couture after all!). Fringe was the "special guest" star in this COUTURE show, making its "appearance" in various forms: from dangling sequins and beads to napa leather. The small, but impressive collection was gorgeous in its simplicity but still taking the art of hand-made Haute Couture to a forward-thinking level. Fashion has to look back but it can only survive by moving forward.

Haute Fringe: Model Joan Smalls featuring a hand-beaded degrade sequined sweater-top (note that this little beaded top probably costs as much as a Couture Gown--approximately $100,000), skinny pants and open-toe sandals. Modern Couture, Givenchy Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2012

Fringed Warrior: Givenchy Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2012

Gypsy Queen: Sable trimmed bell-sleeved coat and creme gown, Givenchy Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2012

Suede Red Carpet: a cappuccino-colored suede gown with intricate embroidery detail at the high-hip/back midriff and high side slit, Givenchy Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2012

Halter Diva: a black halter gown with built-in cape completely embroidered with sequins on the inside lining, Givenchy Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2012

The Versace Warrior Princess:

Glam Coats--and a SEXY-HOT mini dress: Atelier Versace Fall/Winter 2012

As you may know, Paris Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2012 Fashion Week is happening right now over in the City of Lights--and love and baguettes--Paris! In my last post I brought you my "highlights" from Belgian designer Raf Simons' debut Dior Haute Couture Fall-Winter Collection. And now, it's time for Miss Donatella...

In her past collections for the Haute Couture hand-made $40,000-$150,000 costing arm of the Versace Empire, she had decided to either show her collections via Look Book images, or in more "Gallery"-like showings (like last season). But she is back! This time, she showed at the famed Ritz Hotel Paris, where her dear brother had shown for EIGHT YEARS. The collection--although Fall, was very Spring/Summer in its bright, bold colors (blush, peach, lilac, lavender, neon green, yellow, and magenta pinks).

It was very 1990's "old school" Versace. Donatella has been on this 1990's trend in terms of the Versace archive silhouettes, va-va-boom shapes, and an over all "Where's Linda Evagelista, Yazmeen Ghauri, Nadja Auermann and Christy Turlington?" feeling. PS: Those models would be WORKING these clothes OVERTIME on the runway! Is it me, or do these 16 year old girls not EVEN hold a candle to those Supermodel Goddesses?!!! Nevertheless, the clothes on display were sexy, strong, "Warrior Princess" fab. Take a look:
