Sari Queen: Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2016

WHAT: Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2016. "A Trip to India"...through the eyes of a turn-of-the-last-century Englishwoman. This is how Lebanese designer Elie Saab described his muse for this most recent Haute Couture collection. There were obvious nods to Edwardian shapes (the high necked lace blouses) as well as India (the draped Sari-like details). The collection looked very "young" and very Valentino-esque. For starters, the accessories like sequined caps and lace-up boots, as well as sport-like leather sandals all screamed "I'm going for a younger very, very, very rich trust-funder debutante". And in addition, the nymph-like shapes, head-crowns and diaphanous dresses were a little too reminiscent of the designs seen from the House of Valentino's Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli. It was all beautiful but seemed a bit too much like someone else's designs.

TRENDS: Plunging necklines; sequined lace mini dresses; flared dresses; lace-up boots; head-crowns; embroidered lace;

COLORS: Silver, gunmetal gray, blush, light lilac, indigo blue.

Haute Eco Ladies: Chanel Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2016

WHAT: Chanel Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2016. ”Très écologique” is what Chanel Creative Czar said after the show, when asked the theme of his Chanel Haute Couture collection for Spring/Summer 2016. We've seen the Grand Palais transformed into an airport terminal, a casino, and now, a Utopian Garden of sorts with calm waters, a wooden hut, perfect green lawns and a Hollywood studio perfect blue sky.

The collection was gorgeous and filled with all the exquisite hand-made details Chanel Haute Couture is known for. Details included wooden chips made to look like paillettes, 3-D embellishments, real gold sequins, recycled paper, organic yarn. High-fashion ecological fashion, costing about $100,000 an outfit.

TRENDS: Below-the-knee skirts; curved dolman sleeves; wooden clogs-heels; fan-like shoulders, capes, side slit pants.

COLORS: Ivory, pink, deep navy blue, wooden gold.
