S/S 2016 PRINT AND FLORAL PATTERNS - DITSY TO BOLD

The Trendstop experts have compiled the most inspirational best-selling prints for the upcoming Spring/Summer season. Discover how leading designers are utilizing new prints in our S/S 2016 Print & Embellishment Forecast. Here, an excerpt, are two must-have floral print styles for Spring/Summer 2016: Bold & Beautiful Florals and Ditsy Prairie Florals.

    BOLD & BEAUTIFUL FLORALS

A playful attitude emerges for spring, as florals are amplified with a big, bold intensity to catch the eye with vibrant colors and oversized proportions. This trend adds a striking statement to womenswear styles.

On the catwalks, House of Holland showcases a modern take on a retro floral print with stark black outlines, while clean white bases lend a fresh touch to Victoria Beckham’s abstracted pink blooms. Blown-up placements can also be used, as seen with combinations of painterly petals and sheer knit at Missoni or vivid color pop bases on a Marni bag.

    DITY PRAIRIE FLORALS

Ditsy florals inspire notions of the springtime prairie, on show in delicate repeat patterns. Classic flower motifs take on a modern freshness when applied to clean white bases.

Miu Miu applies the delicate print to a chic ivory-based summer suiting ensemble, as feminine prairie dresses incorporate classic repeats at Christian Dior. Meanwhile, contemporary interpretations appear at Prada in the form of sports blocked socks for contrast, with MM6 Maison Martin Margiela adding texture to a soft pastel pattern with the use of lightweight quilting.

   S/S 16 WOMENS' FORECASTED GRAPHICS
We have brought together the strongest pattern expressions for Women for Spring 16. From Asian influences within Japonism to the evolution of the Arts and Crafts movement within Chintz, the imagery is vast and inspiring.

    CHINTZ
Chintz in the past has been used to describe, cheap and gaudy imagery, but this is certainly not the case here. We were Inspired by old wallpaper designs, authentic Chintz florals and English textile designer Charles Voysey is our main inspiration. The designs are simplified versions of the expected William Morris, as the background is cleaner, and the designs are flat in color and obviously heavily repeated.

    FIGHTING CHANCE
Fighting chance is our athletic graphic expression, as we see go-faster stripes, way finder imagery and logos suitable to the boxing ring. The colors are equally sporty.

    LINEAR LANDSCAPE
Linear Landscape is a new expression, as we see illustrated lines hinting or suggesting where the lines of the landscape lie. We are especially enthralled by the sense of movement and fluidity within this trend. The color palette is exceptionally soft, as this expression will sit within a Zen like women’s trend- Retreat.

    NATURE'S LENS
Within Natures lens we dust off our magnifying glass and take a close up look at the beauty that Mother Nature has to offer. Butterflies and bugs sit contently with imagery mimicking a micro-organism or bacteria, as well as zoomed in leaves and under water foliage.

    PSYCHEDLIC DREAM
Psychedelic tie dyes and trippy verbiage come together with even more intense and fun florals as we imagine a teenagers wildest imagination, and the subsequent colorful world. Authentic 70s graphic posters are particularly inspiring!

    S/S 16 MENS' FORECASTED GRAPHICS
For Spring 2016 we have brought together the thirteen strongest expressions, inspired by the runway, our current surroundings and what is particularly inspiring us right now. From a recent trip to Iceland, to a love of hand drawn conversationals - novelists, artists and destinations have all been part of our research, strengthening each call out.

    BOTANY STUDY
As many plants are essential foundations for life sources, we research into their growth, needs and exceptional beauty. Botanical illustrations are key as we now look at the florals in a scientific manner. Sketched imagery of other wildlife such as bugs and butterflies also comes into play as the color palette is natural with brown undertones.

    NATURE'S PERSPECTIVE
Awe-inspiring landscapes tell a colorful story. Tapestries sit with aerial photo real shots of desert islands and more abstract versions of water and natural surface texture. An editors recent trip to Iceland has particularly inspired, not the icy mountains that you’d expect but the rural colorful countryside with deep shadows from the lava fields.

    RORSCHACH TEST
Named after a test used to analyze a patient’s state of mind, this theme challenged us to question what we were looking at. The abstract collection of ink drops found on a Rorschach Test, are minimal in color and enigmatic, as we also look at brain scans and imagery which can be mimicked into this shape.

    SCRAPBOOK COLLAGE
Scrapbook Collage is all about hand crafting the collage, ignoring the digital talents and working with paper, scissors and tape. It’s a modern evolution of Dadaism. We were inspired particularly by Raf Simons, who literally laid out his life on the back of oversized sailor collars. This personal quality is something to be admired as he showcased images of his parents, photographs from family vacations and even his passport photo adorns a simple button down.

    GLITCH
This theme consists of images or patterns that have somehow been distorted by a computer glitch or a rogue frequency disruption. This expression combines and shows the evolution of optical illusions and digitally engineered blurred graphics creating a new image. Artist Nicholas Ballesteros has been a key inspiration.

Soft Nostalgia plays the most important role with a continuation of pastels that become notably more saturated. Desert Bloom refreshes the notion of neutrals with new base tones and enticing fashion colors that offer a new perspective. Backyard addresses the important brights of the season in fully saturated color, while Seaside offers a vibrant mid-tone assortment with unexpected results. Finally, while jewel tones are not typically associated with Spring, Heirlooms remain relevant with both familiar and newly added hues.

We have compiled this information into a special report for Fashion Vignette members, courtesy of Fashion Snoops – where the full report is available exclusively to subscribers. The full version of the trend report is available now for individual purchase in the Fashion Vignette Trend Shop.

    SEASIDE (VIBRANT MID TONES)
Seaside is presented as a vibrant selection of mid-tones. Bubblegum pink plays an essential role, while newer shades of Coral and Melon are influenced by pink and grapefruit casts. Orchid and Aqua are offered as emerging fashion colors. Custard is lively, yet not overly saturated, shade of yellow. Chartreuse is introduced as a new lime.

CORAL

Coral is a new pink this season, with salmon undertones.

    HEIRLOOM (JEWEL TONES)
Jewel tones remain relevant for Spring/Summer with a new offering of Heirlooms. Red and green continue to play the most significant roles, including familiar shades of dark Burgundy and brighter Ruby. Green becomes more influenced by blues with Evergreen and Dark Teal colors. While Navy progresses as an influential base color, Indigo offers a new alternative. Grape purple is featured as a new fashion color.

BURGUNDY
After much success in recent seasons, burgundy is back for Spring.

INDIGO
Indigo presents a strong option somewhere in between navy and cobalt.

DARK TEAL
Dark Teal offers a new fashion color that adds newness especially to retro looks.

    DESERT BLOOM (NEUTRALS)
The Desert Bloom color palette combines earthy neutrals along with emerging fashion colors. Base hues of Khaki, Hazy Taupe and Twine are enlivened by richer bases like Dark Roast and Olive. Red casted Rust and orange casted Copper both play influential roles, while Marigold is a yellow with significant orange influence. Persimmon keeps the palette lively et to pink and orange casts. Cooler hues include Soldier Blue, Moonstone and Pine.

PERSIMMON

Persimmon combines desert orange with pink for a sunset fashion color.

HAZY TAUPE

Hazy Taupe brings a darker grey casted neutral into the spectrum.

MOONSTONE BLUE

Moonstone Blue is an exciting new fashion color in the Desert Bloom palette.

    SOFT NOSTALGIA (PASTELS)
Soft Nostalgia addresses pastels as one of the most important groups of the season, lead notably by Blue Hydrangea. Chambray offers a greyer, saturated blue alternative. Pink is a focus from saturated mid-tones of Peony to whitened Ice Pink, peach tinted Rose Champagne and purple casted Lilac. Other fashion pastels include more saturated hues of Wisteria purple, Lemon Chiffon and Sea Glass green. Neutral base tones include a fleshy Buff, utility Ecru and Bone. Dust complements Soft Nostalgia as this season’s exclusive grey.

BLUE HYDRANGEA

Blue Hydrangea is easily the most essential pastel of the season, lending a soft commercial appeal.

LEMON CHIFFON

Lemon Chiffon brings yellow to the pastel range with creamy undertones.

    BACKYARD (BRIGHTS)
Backyard brights offer a lively conversation anchored by warm and cool hues. Green plays a pivotal role in both Spring Green and a brighter shade of Grass, while Canary offers a brightly saturated yellow. Red progresses forward with Candy Apple as a key color. Another popular commercial option is Electric Blue, while Periwinkle really brings something new to the table. Though orange generally downtrends, Clementine remains.

PERIWINKLE

Periwinkle is one of the most popular blues of the season, positioned as a brighter summer alternative to Electric Blue.
