How to Wear a Denim Jacket

The beauty of a denim jacket or shirt is that it will retain its integrity for years to come. You are more likely to get bored of wearing it before it needs throwing away – although given its timeless look, we’re sure the former won’t happen. Although it seems as American as apple pie, denim actually has its origins in Renaissance Europe, although where specifically is unclear. Nimes seems a good bet as it explains the term ‘denim’ – derived from ‘de Nimes’ or ‘from Nimes.’

The denim jacket started as a way of re-purposing old scraps from jean manufacturing, and from these casual beginnings, we have a very casual item. However, the denim jacket is a staple piece that has more to offer than casual wear. Have a go at wearing your denim jacket under a black overcoat for a smarter twist for example. Let’s start off with a quick and easy tutorial on some introductory styling options.

It’s true that the denim jacket does fall in and out of favour. What was in during the 90s felt a bit unloved at the start of the millennium. Nonetheless, the casual number has certainly made quite a comeback – pretty much screaming East London cool casual. Wearing a nice cable knit jumper underneath your jacket and pair of tan ankle boots will give a touch of urban to a Western classic.

Vogue Japan April 2015

You know how I was literally just like "Ah, this CR Fashion Book cover is the best thing on the Internet!?" Well, this tops it, guys. I love Barbie. I've loved Barbie forever. Of course, I went through my "I'm too cool for Barbie, bleh" phase, but nostalgia is a bitch. I mean, I may or may not have a Barbie phone case right now. Anyway... Rosie Huntington Whiteley poses as a real life Barbie in Vogue Japan's April issue. In case you couldn't tell by my rant above, I'm kind of incredibly and ridiculously obsessed with it. Styled by Anna Dello Russo, I seriously can't stop staring. I wonder if my landlord would let me paint all my walls Barbie pink. I should ask him, he's quite reasonable. Plus, Barbie. Duh.
This is my favorite shot. SO PERFECT.
The kneepads really got me. Ha ha ha.

Vogue March 2015

I haven't been this excited about Vogue in, gosh, I can't even remember how long. But things have changed. This Taylor Swift/Karlie Kloss Vogue cover was rumored for months and has finally become a beautiful reality. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I love Taylor Swift like she was my own sister/best friend/fellow cat lady for life. Or maybe it has to do with the fact that she got a Vogue photoshoot with her best friend. Or maybe it's because Taylor Swift is living my dream and I'm just on the sidelines waiting for her to tap me in. Or maybe it's because my road trips never turn out this picture-esque. (Although, eating Munchies and singing Celiné Dion at the top of your lungs does sound like a perfect Vogue feature.) Or maybe it's all of those things. But either way. I'm kind of obsessed with March's issue. How can you not be?!
This is my dream day. Dancing and baking cookies? YES PLEASE. Sign me up.
Taylor's Michael Kors skirt haunts my dreams. I need it in my life/on my body.
This is my favorite shot. LOOK AT THE MOVEMENT OF KARLIE'S FRINGE. Ugh. My heart.

A Change Of Pace

Bobble Hat: Barts Otis Beanie via Roos Beach c/o | Jacket: Warehouse Old Similar On Sale

Hey guys! Happy Mondayyy!

It's an Insta-fact according to me that word play is one of the most fun things on Instagram.

FRIYAY? Genius.

Mondaze? I think we can all relate.

Recently I've been taking things slower, and I am sure some of you have noticed that I have been posting a little less frequently on the blog. It's been around a year since I've been blogging full time, and I've felt the need in recent weeks to take time to stop, reflect and plan. With the year coming to an end, it's felt like a natural time to do this.

The extra time I am dedicating to research (thank you Kindle app), sleeping, and generally feeding the inspiration part of my brain (which y'know, has a filing system and everything), has got me bursting with ideas and plans.

A couple of weeks ago, Oli and I travelled to Swanage with some friends for the weekend. The change of scene was just what we needed to recharge our batteries. 48 hours of laughter, long walks and many many "oh my gawwwd do you remember when . . . " recaps (local cider. Killer.) had us driving home on the Sunday with smiles all round.

In times gone by I wouldn't have allowed myself time to slow down and reflect, but I've come to learn how important it is, both personally and on a business level. I'm embracing the slower pace, and yes, it actually feels really good

I'd love to know if you have any thoughts on changing up the pace? Do you take time to do the same?  And are you looking forward to the New Year too?!

Christmas Market | Diesel Doris Jean

Jeans: Diesel ‘Doris’ Style c/o | Jacket: New Look c/o | Jumper: John Smedley Mens | Scarf: Borrowed From Oli, Similar | Boots: Russell & Bromley | Bag: Russell & Bromley in Black

Hey hey lovelies! Happy hump day!

Every festive season, our neighbouring town of Winchester hosts a huge Christmas market in its Cathedral grounds, complete with ice skating rink, gift stalls and delicious seasonal treats. Oli and I hopped straight on the bandwagon when the market opened this season, and spent a gorgeous icy afternoon pottering around.

When it comes to dressing for the Christmas season, I am all for a little extra sparkle, novelty and fun. Christmas jumpers have their wonderful place, but there are other ways to easily nod to the festive cheer, whilst investing in pieces which will see you past December 25th.

Starting with great jeans will always make for an understated, stylish outfit. I opted to wear my new Diesel Doris jeans with a faux fur jacket, a couple of borrowed pieces from Oli, and a suitably festive beauty look, for our trip to the Christmas market. I felt comfortable, cosy, and just the right amount of  merry.

Warning this is a big picture post!

Read on for a tonne more snaps of our lovely afternoon, and my thoughts on Diesel's latest jean style . . .

I have been wearing Diesel jeans for years now, and can wholeheartedly attest to their quality. I like a jean with a mid-rise waistband, which has a touch of elastane in the fabric mix to keep the shape over washes. I have a generous bum and hips, and the Doris style, which I am wearing here, fits a treat. I would advise sizing up if you’re uncomfortable in skin tight jeans - the Doris lives up to its super skinny claim!

Currently I am trying to convince Oli that now is the time to buy our Christmas tree. I mean if we leave it much longer they’ll probably all be gone . . . ! Right?!!

Have an awesome day all!

It felt like it was taking forever, but we’ve finally had our first frost in town! A smattering of icy glitter makes everything prettier, and it makes me think that Mother Nature is on board with this festive dressing thing! Nothing’s more comforting on an icy morning than curling up with a roasting cup of coffee, snug as a bug in beautiful knitwear. H&M has nabbed a supermodel cast, plus Lady Gaga,  to show us just how great knitwear can be worn for the season.

Read on for snug styling tips, and a very special Christmas pairing . . .

Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett in H&M's Christmas Campaign

Whether like Gaga you’re going XXL on the jumper, and cosying up to Hollywood legend Tony Bennett (because duh! Wouldn’t he be the BEST Christmas carolling partner ever?!), or like Supers Joan Smalls and Sasha Pivivarova you’re nabbing H&M’s awesome OTK booties, there’s a myriad of ways to style up your knits.
Oh, and thank you H&M styling team for OK’ing snug party coverups - how gorgeous does Miss Smalls look in her cream faux fur and white jumpsuit combo?! All. Over. It.

In the spirit of, um, high spirits, here’s H&M’s awesome Christmas video featuring our favourite Supermodels, Gaga and Tony Bennett singing their hearts out. I defy anyone not to feel throughly festive and ready to party following this!

Have you guys got your party outfits sorted yet? Are you lusting after H&M’s cream knits as much as me?!
