How to Travel Like a Supermodel

The holiday season is upon us, and that means family time, heaps of Thanksgiving food, and one necessary evil: travel.

While traveling (and packing specifically) can be a headache for many, just because you’re jet-setting doesn’t mean you have to leave fashion by the wayside. Just ask Joan Smalls. The supermodel is such a pro at looking polished and poised right off a plane that W Hotels partnered with her to create an “Off Duty” closet collection inspired by her.

Seven emerging designers created pieces using Joan Smalls’s style as inspiration, and the results are impressive. They include Smalls’s hand-picked looks for an on-the-go woman, but that’s not even the best part. All the brands involved are fronted by women, and on top of it, Smalls is donating her portion of the proceeds to Puerto Rican disaster relief—and W hotels is matching it. Talk about a win-win.

“Joan and I came up with words that would describe her style: urban, feminine, and tomboy. She’s really very consistent in a picture from 2007 to 2017 because she always looks like herself when she’s off the runway,” said “Off Duty” Creative Director Sarah Easley. “She always has a cool leather moto jacket or distressed denim, and broken down it’s pretty simple pieces, but they fit her perfectly and then she does really feminine makeup and hair, so it’s a balanced look.”

You can shop the "Off Duty" pieces here, but before you do, check out our interview with Smalls below to hear her tips on how to travel like a supermodel, how to pack for specific abroad locations, and why she’s donating her portion of the project's proceeds to Puerto Rican hurricane relief.

And today we are continuing with my guide to Vienna (check the first one here).
25hours hotel at Museumsquartier was my second start point so here are some tips while you in this neighborhood!

Must see
Museumsquartier - art and food united in the largest inner-city cultural space. Place where you can relax with pavement cafes, fountains and the cult Enzos (furniture designed for lounging in the sun) surrounded by:
Museum of Modern Art (mumok) - the largest museum in Central Europe for art since modernism
The Leopold Museum - one of the world's most important assemblages of Austrian art
and the Kunsthalle - so be sure to visit at least one of these museums.
Naschmarkt - Vienna’s best-known market has around 120 market stands and restaurants for a colorful culinary offering ranging from Viennese to Indian, from Vietnamese to Italian. The Naschmarkt has developed into a meeting point for young and old.

Must eat/drink
Café Drechsler - place where tradition meets a stylish and modern atmosphere
On Market - you will love the colorful textile artworks
Brass Monkey - cute little cupcake shop
Ulrich - try Flat pizza here
Café Leopold - hip and modern place at MQ
Pure Living Bakery - cute bakery
Corbaci - lovely interior with oriental vibes

Must be
Dachboden 25Hours - by day or night, you will love this place!
Halle - in the evening hours at MQ, have a drink or two
Puff, die Bar

Must shop
despite the fact that the Mariahilfer Straße is considered as the most important shopping street, I don't like it, especially not during the hot summer day! I would rather visit several concept stores like Park or Ostform and skip the shopping in this area.
At least you can do is to buy something to eat or drink at lovely place Feinkoch. ;)

And while you in town, be sure to visit Imperial Vienna too! Stroll along the splendid baroque Schönbrunn and Belvedere Palaces. Don't forget the  Zoo  which is the oldest existing zoo in the world!

p.s. didn't want to carry my camera cause we were strolling up and down all day long, but I'm preparing also the third part with tons of photos, so be ready for that! ;) All places are linked and you can check them with one click!

                                                                                                    ph. me

I have never been a typical tourist. Instead of chasing like crazy and sightseeing I always preferred to sit on some cool place, grab a drink and observe, pretending to be a resident of the city. And I firmly believe that this is the best way to feel the atmosphere and get to known better other cultures and people and after that you will easily discover every town you visit.
Before every trip, I google! I google like crazy! Searching for a new and must see places: what's fresh, what's popular, what's trendy, where are the best design spots etc. And after I arrive in every hotel I try to get even more information from the hotel's staff cause no one knows better than the locals.
With bunch of papers, names and directions I jump into bed and start creating a route.
No strict plans, just some notes, cause I don't wanna feel pressure to see everything. I like to enjoy and absorb.
So let's start this first part of my guide!
The Guesthouse Hotel is the ideal starting point for strolls through the city and visiting Vienna's hotspots. But if you are not staying at this hotel, I recommend at least to have breakfast here cause it's worth it. The organic wood-fired bakery Gragger provides fresh bread and pastries and you will love it.

Must eat/drink
The Guesthouse Hotel - all day breakfast and coffee at the Brasserie
Palmenhaus - only 400 meters away from the hotel you will find this architectural jewel built in 1901. Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy under the palms and tranquil view of the Burggarten (if you like butterflies you can check the Butterfly House next to the restaurant).
Würstelstand - next to the Albertina Museum, don't skip this if you like different type of sausages
LeSchanz - Wiener Schokolade König, near St.Stephen's Square
Clementine im Glashaus - you have to try something to eat between clementine trees
Burgring - serves raw vintage chic and down to earth food
Cafe Stadtkind - the ideal place to start or end your shopping tour
Cafe Sacher Wien - cause you need to take at least one piece of this famous cake
Figlmüller - it can be crowded because of the tourists, but believe me it is the best Schnitzel you will try, ever.

Must see
Albertina Museeum
Augustinerkirche
Wiener Staatsoper/ Staatsopernmuseum
Winterpalais
in the shadow of the St. Stephan's Cathedral there are so many well established galleries, if you are interesting in those kind of places just google it.

Must be
Albertina Passage - one of the finest dinner clubs in Vienna. The live swin, jayy and blues music will take back into another time and place.
Roberto American Bar
Porgy and Bess - Jazzclub
also the Guesthouse Hotel and Palmenhaus are places to be during the day.

Must shop
Steffl - famous department store in Vienna
Peek&Cloppenburg - not a fan of their stores at all, but during the Sale period you can find interesting piece
(Red Valentino, Max Mara, Theory etc.)
Cos - don't skip this place, they have amazing pieces
Albertina Museum - has really cool shop.

And that's it for today, for this area around my first hotel. All places are linked so you can check the address and what are they offering.
