WOMEN'S F/W 2015-16 RUNWAY PRINT REPORT - FLORAL REDUX

Discover exciting new prints hot off the runways of the Fall/Winter 2015-16 ready-to-wear shows, and be inspired with the most influential print and pattern trends of the season. This week, WeConnectFashion readers can get a first look at The Interior Floral trend, a directional print story pinpointed by the Trendstop print experts. This trend was spotted in collections by leading designers like Karen Walker and Marc by Marc Jacobs.

Urban William Morris - This fall, interior-inspired prints look to the winter garden with a bouquet of floral patterns, creating sophisticated modern classic effects. Here, wallpaper patterns recalling William Morris’ iconic designs come to life with a stylized cosmopolitan twist, as seen with textured surfaces across Marc by Marc Jacobs skirts and Simone Rocha Bags. Meanwhile, bold floral prints stand out on dark bases at Thakoon, with oversized repeats adding newness to vintage aesthetics at Karen Walker.

Image courtesy Trendstop: Vivienne Westwood, Erdem, Burberry Prorsum, Michael Van Der Ham, all Fall/Winter 2015-16.
Textural Florals - A key trend on the London F/W15 runways, this trend can be adapted to highlight the tactile nature of interiors design. Textural Florals add drama to the winter wardrobe when flower prints are applied to materials like rustic wovens, jacquards, appliqués and brocades. Color pops and mixed patterns produce modern statements at Erdem and Burberry Prorsum, along with contrasts of texture at Vivienne Westwood. At Michael Van Der Ham, we see how a luxe shine can be created with a touch of metallic.

Fresh from the front row, discover how womenswear can be updated with Cayenne, a directional shade, that colors designs in the apparel, accessories and footwear sectors. Cayenne will be influential for fast fashion markets going into F/W 2015-16, as well as mainstream fashion markets for Fall/Winter 2016-17 a season later.

    CASUALWEAR APPAREL AND ACCESSORIES
Image courtesy Trendstop: Opening Ceremony, Lacoste, Proenza Schouler, Marc by Marc Jacobs, all Fall/Winter 2015-16.

A spicy shade of Cayenne combines brown with an orange tint, updating the staple shade with an autumnal Fashion Colour twist. A perfect shade for the fall wardrobe, Cayenne injects women’s styles with an alluring warmth and commercial appeal. In casual wear  this color adds a laidback look to pieces like utility coats at Opening Ceremony and manipulated dresses at Proenza Schouler, while sportswear inspires contrast trim at Lacoste and slogan scarves by Marc by Marc Jacobs.

    FORMAL APPAREL AND ACCESSORIES

An influential shade on the New York runways, designers demonstrate how Cayenne can be applied to luxury-based fabrications for a more sophisticated feel. Lurex fibres and silks create elegance in the form of ladylike dresses at Cushnie et Ochs, with monochrome color contrasts adding interest to winter layering at Adeam. Other highlights include plush fur jackets at Zac Posen and glossy reptile skin handbags at Proenza Schouler.

    S/S 16 WOMEN ACTIVE FORECASTS

We kick off the Spring 2016 forecasts with Vertigo, dizzying visuals and good vibes in a delirious mashup, topped off with a sweet and sassy attitude. Retro shapes inspired by 60’s kitsch swimwear get modernized by mixed media materials, while playful, overtly flirty details get slapped with snarky message graphics.

Seaside inspiration comes from beach bunnies galore. With cheeky and nostalgic surf style shapes like foamy high-waisted bottoms and flirty bras dominating key items and hazy cotton candy hues clashing with poppy watermelon and cherry red.

2. Airbrushing
3. Nostalgic neon
4. Sweet and Sassy
5. Apathy
6, 7. Tattooed and Tweaked Icons

MUD is movement under distress. For our third active forecast this season, we focus on the primal state of stability within extreme conditions deriving from baja racing, beach volleyball and mudder races. A fusion of dry environments and sweat.

Dirt and mud terrains of mining camps, outdoors trails, mudder obstacles, canyons and ancient cemeteries create a perspective of moving forms that prove to be more than a landscape but the natural strokes of a living man made artist expression. The depth of color, organic movement of shapes and macro level functionality that it generates all can be translated into design features that coexist with the warrior spirit and articulation.

2. Atlas map
3. Thermal heat
4. Tough letter logo / wrap around print

    S/S 16 MEN ACTIVE FORECASTS

Kicking off the active Spring / Summer 2016 season, Open Mind sparks the excitement of creativity, the vibrancy of personality and the quirky fun injected into a sporty lifestyle. Young, involved, interested and intoxicating, this guy is active in expressing his imagination and excited to see where it takes him.

Imagine if you were free to just explore the world and uncover all of the folk richness that history had expressed. Then apply your spin on patterns, colors, perspective, shapes and significance to your own art form — and that is what Open Mind is all about: collaborating with culture to express the future of art.

2. Urban Word Puzzle

MUD is movement under distress. For our third active forecast this season, we focus on the primal state of stability within extreme conditions deriving from baja racing, Laamb wrestling and mudder races. A fusion of dry environments and sweat. Unearthing natural terrain from by high levels of consistent performance, the MUD athlete shows no mercy to his environment as he pushes him mental and physical capabilities to the max.

Warrior is all about outfitting focused aggression. Fabrics need to be rugged and durable enough to sustain large amounts of sporadic impact, frequent influx / de-flux of temperatures and act as the fundamental layer of enhancing and protecting movement. Brute natural force evokes a inner strength that needs to be focused for a particular goal and once that goal is identified, then the apparel can be modified for optimum results.

PATTERNS (clockwise from top left):
1. Letter integrated net print
2. Atlas map
3. Rock Mosaic
4. Tribal Stripes
5. Stenciled geo pattern over distressed print
6. Micro mud streams

Today's post [ TREND + PRINT REPORT ], is from FV print and fashion contributor AARYN WEST of Aaryn West Studio based in Los Angeles, California. Go here, to check out their website.

Below are their some of her Fall 2015 Runway Trend inspirations: Black and White Optics, Forest Fauna, with their print backgrounds.

     BLACK AND WHITE OPTICS

Here’s a trend that is guaranteed to put you in a groovy mood. Graphic, eye-popping prints in stark shades of black and white evoke a complex mixture of playful and serious, and can often be a challenge to create; the trick is to find the perfect combination of scale and level of detail. Such dazzling optical prints were spotted in various Fall 2015 collections, with examples coming from Trina Turk, Protagonist, and Custo Barcelona in addition to the designers credited below.

     BOHO PUNK

The Fall season often takes us on a journey deep into the forest. This year a focus on woodland fauna takes the spotlight, as seen with these romanticized, folky interpretations.

     FOREST FAUNA

With each Fall season we inevitably see a resurgence of plaid parading down the catwalk, often within the clean and crisp domain of menswear. This season we are seeing a more feminine, perhaps even free spirited, approach to plaid. Plaids are being juxtaposed against whimsical paisleys, sweetly naive florals, and in the case of Stella Jean’s brilliant collection, ornately detailed folkloric illustrations of animals. Think about inserting a does of grunge into your next bohemian collection, by way of the simple punky plaid.
