Little White Dresses. Is The LWD Replacing The LBD This Season?

A new classic in cocktail-wear is in town. The little white dress is sexy, classy, and versatile all in one small bright package. White dresses are definitely one of summer’s hottest fashion trends.

You're all familiar with the Little Black Dress, aren't you? But this summer, put aside the Little Black Dress and welcome the Little White Dress. Why? Because white is a shade of colour that looks good on everybody specially with that summer time sun-kissed skin. The Little White Dress isn't only for the summer days, it also works perfectly for summer nights, you just have to make it work for the occasion you're wearing it for. Treat your Little White Dress as a white canvas, you can style it with different shades of colours and each time you'll get yourself a fresh new look.

Wearing white is always a great way to instantly create a fresh, chic look. The beauty of wearing white is that you have free rein when it comes to teaming it with colour. Knowing how to wear an all white outfit will help you pull off one of the hottest trends right now.

White is sheer and transparent. So, beware of extremely thin white material as it can become see-through. Make sure you wear a white satin slip and either white or nude undergarments when wearing a white dress.

Make a fun statement by teaming up your little white dress with some pop of colours. Colourful, chunky necklaces and bright heels can make you standout. Carry a coloured blazer or handbag that will draw attention.

Bring an eclectic vibe to your white dress with a metallic belt or add some patterns with your little white dress. You can also pair up your LWD with a colourful patterned scarf, shawl or leggings. Make sure not to add more than one patterned accessory to your white dress, as it will look too overpowering.

Red Lipstick can also take you places when teamed up with a white dress.

So whether you decide to go for a white on white look, or you feel like adding a splash of colourful accessories, the Little White Dress will be your go-to look this summer.

So tell me girls, what’s your favorite way to wear a LWD?

At 'Circus' by Wendy Sharpe, King on William Gallery. I have always, always, always, wanted to do some circus photographs though sadly until last Wednesday night I have never had the opportunity. So thank you Wendy for adding to the joy of your circus paintings real live circus performances as well. of course it can be difficult to quiet down an opening night art crowd to let them know something special, not-just-speeches is about to happen; and it helps if you have a friend with a bling'd out eye patch (whom I have often wanted to photograph too) to help bring the jubilant crowd under control!  Great night, a beautiful show and fab fun performances. It's just no one said anything about Pirates! Read on below for my news about Art and About & 'Australian Life' too!

On other opening night notes, last night was the launch of the 'Australian Life' photography competition which is also part of Art and About. My photograph of three lovely Sydney ladies taken at the Billich Gallery 30th anniversary party was chosen as one of 22 finalists from a record field of 1300 entries! The competition and the 10k prize was won by my friend Jon Lewis who has been documenting Sydney life (and elsewhere as well) in his unique fashion since the 70s and 80s, and has certainly been a positive influence and guide for my photography. Congratulations Jon! And as we walked back to Darlinghurst after the launch there was more, Sydney's newly restored, Iconic Coca-Cola sign was finally switched on, lit up and back in action, a neon beacon leading us home. A great night, a great week. use the links to discover more!

ANY STEP MBFWA Raffles International Showcase 2015

Oh Bondage - Up Yours!

Well actually the range is called HEROINE SS 2015/16 and it is Amazonian princesses meets late night bondage club all of which reminds me of going to the Beat club in Brisbane back in the early 80s... or even more so, Black Market in Sydney later on (though real B&D has never been very attractive to me). I do like the playful dress-up elements in this range; perhaps more inspired by Malcolm Mclaren and doyen of British fashion Vivienne Westwood who's shop SEX, was pretty much to-the-point and where it all got started as (Punk) fashion from fetish. And here we are, we have come a long way; certainly rebellion is prettier this time around. The designers of ANY STEP by Amy Le and Stephanie McGuigan have just shown at China Graduate Fashion Week #CGFW in Beijing, so time I thought to get my shots of this range off the hard drive and up online. I hope you enjoy the show; gold-lamé leggings on suspender straps.. I certainly did. Mouse over image for details.

Head(ing) On into Art & Photography April/May 2016

OK I did ask the dumbest question of Jerrard Seng about his work, Me: "did you Photoshop yourself into all these landscapes" Jerrard: "No I took them all with a remote". Believe that or not; his show 'The Space Between' at m2 Gallery of selfies in incredible Icelandic landscapes seems a very NOW approach to art photography; a bit like Instagram on Steroids on the wall - and bigger! There was a bit of a crush by the time I arrived but I heard it was even more packed earlier, no wonder it was a bit quiet (comparatively speaking) at China Heights, where KNIGHTMARE by French was taking place fusing a gothicy art with the latest trend in street fashion, embroidered patches (and buttons-we already knew), or so Bloglovin had informed me only that very morning! continues below..

There was certainly no shortage of funky styling at any of the shows and the still-warm weather seems to be making things more like a spring night out not at all winter approaching.

I'm just going to put it right out there. This is the most original art photography show I have seen in quite a while; I don't know how he make the images (it's a silver halide based traditional process) and I don't really care; what's interesting is the fusing of the political economy as a subject and the graph as a photographic object, or you can just enjoy them as photo based abstractions. I thought they were brilliant!

Well there's at least two cowboy shows at Head On this year;  Claire Letitia Reynolds's 'Lonely Cowboys' at Central Park which I am yet to see and Marley Marco Pasinetti, 'The "8" Second Ride' at ArtSHINE Gallery. Just around the corner in Chippendale and well supported by his friends on opening night. I popped my head into the big do Saturday night at aMBUSH Central Park, but I must say I find art exhibited on that scale somewhat daunting. So it was nice to then find myself for the first time in the more intimate ArtSHINE space for Marley's first solo show. Great eye, lovely compositions, check it out before or after visiting the big festival splash up at aMBUSH.
