The Reasons I Decided to Skip NYFW This Season...
New York Fashion Week kicked off this morning (or yesterday for some; Great job Lauren Conrad on your first runway show ! Hello friends at Lauder Co., hope you had a great party last night!) and I can't help myself but to feel a little sad that I'll be missing out on so many great shows, presentations and people, because it's always the new friends I make, that make these memories unforgettable and this time, amazing !
Remember when I first announced that I would start covering the international Fashion Weeks a few seasons ago now ? I sort of made that promise to myself that if I really wanted to do this, I would have to do it right. Be patient. Do it step by step so ultimately, I would not be missing out on anything or burning any bridges ;) Well, so I did ! I started off with the Fall-Winter 2014 collections presented at NYFW in February 2014. My very first experience working among the international Fashion industry and some of the most influential people of this century; needless to say that this was a huge step for me and I enjoyed every single minute of it.
The next season, in September 2014, I was bursting with excitement when Topshop Canada offered me to attend the Topshop UNIQUE show in London during their Fashion Week ! I finally got to go to London and actually see London, on my own time, on my own schedule. Lucky for me, Cara Delevingne was still the face of Topshop at that time and I had the most hilarious time with her backstage ;) I will never forget these few days in London…
Fast forward to February 2015, where I decided that after New York and London, I was finally ready for the world's Fashion capital, where it all started… Milan ! After a mad, mad two weeks and a half running around New York and London, attending shows after presentations after events, catching some flights, missing others(!), I made my way to Milan Fashion Week and got to witness what this was really all about. There truly isn't anything like Fashion Week season in Milan; Just Cavalli, GUCCI, Prada, Costume National, Luisa Beccaria, Max Mara… All those big names reunited in one vibrant city ! For once I felt like I was at the right place, at the right time. I was totally part of it ;)
And so here we are, September 2015, getting ready to jet away to Europe to finish what I started: Paris Fashion Week. The holy grail of Fashion Weeks ! Needless to say that I am shaking just thinking about it. So nervous, then again, this is exactly why I made sure I didn't skip any steps on my way up: So when I get to Paris, I'll be fully prepared and ready more than ever to rock this Fashion Week. Of course, I'll be warming up with London and Milan where I'll get to see some of my favourite designers show; Emilia Wickstead, Versus by Versace, Sophia Webster, Mary Katrantzou, Burberry, Alberta Ferretti, Fausto Puglisi, Moschino, Emporio Armani and Sportmax. Make sure to follow along via Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat to catch bits and pieces of this season's Fashion Month through my eyes and come back here (on the blog!) everyday for news and updates on my time in Europe. Glad I get to share this journey with you guys !
So back to what I was previously saying, as Paris already is, and will be, taking up so much of my time, even just to get ready for it, I had to put NYFW on hold and postpone it to next season during which, I plan on covering the entire Fashion Month ! Wish me luck ;) Thing is, I really decided to slow things down in order to enjoy it more. I'm simply trying to be smart about the decisions I make; I'm being more selective on what I want to see and making sure that I also get some free time to shoot, assist to all my meetings and edit most of my work. I will still write about this season's NYFW main events such as the Custo Barcelona show (always a favourite of mine!) and the backstage action sponsored by Maybelline New York, as always. But in the meantime, here is a round up of my 10 favourite outfits I got to wear for NYFW these past seasons...
