Your Ultimate Guide to The Best DIY #GirlBoss Halloween Costumes

The countdown has officially begun…

Less than two weeks before Halloween night! So you're now down to the last details of all of those Halloween parties you planned on hosting/attending but you haven't decided on a costume just yet?

Thankfully there’s an array of options that exist within our favourite movies and television shows. Between DC comics, cartoons networks (Space Jam, we’re lookin’ right at you) and the endless high school archetypes (Well hello there, Cher Horowitz!), there are just so many fictional characters to choose from and today, I rounded up my top 5 characters from cult films and pop culture to inspire you for a stand-out Halloween costume!

If you've been living under a rock for the past few months and didn't get the 411 on Baywatch coming back to your home screens (starring Zac Efron and The Rock, major YAS!),  it is time to get on with the program ;) The iconic 90's sitcom which has inspired generations might just be your best pick for a solo or squad costume this year. This one is easy enough to put together straight from your (or your mom's) closet and surprisingly, lets you show a lot of skin or no skin at all!

If you plan on spending most of your evening out, try wearing nude stockings under your red suit and a red/white, varsity-like bomber jacket over it so you don't get too cold. A nice blowout set with Bumble and bumble's sea salt spray will get you the perfect beach hair while a few coats of Vita Liberata tanning mousse will give your skin a nice, natural sun-kissed tone.

Although she ruled with terror and wickedness, classic Cruella, from the beloved 1961 cartoon to the early 2000's Glenn Close adaptation, has always been a leading lady and a queen of style. Exuding undeniable self-confidence and sophistication, she was all about extravagant fashion yet, achieving such a look happens to be more of a breeze than you'd think...

Aside from her infamous oversized, exuberant fur coats, the woman was all about basics: a midi-lenght, black slip dress, red pumps, matching opera gloves and her iconic longer-than-life cigarette holder. Beauty-wise, a very dramatic black and white hair dye does the tricks and deep, bloody red lips complete this Cruella De Vil inspired Halloween costume.

Another fun way to get a little looney this year is to dress up as one of your favourite childhood cartoons character, Lola Bunny from Space Jam. Lola is a boss lady and is not afraid to speak her mind, or tell you to your face not to call her doll!

Channel Lola's sporty vibe with a replica of her Tune Squad ball uniform, a cute pair of bunny ears and a clear complexion with gorgeous highlights. If you want to go all-the-way, head over to Flight Club to scope a pair of the popular Air Jordan 1 'Lola Bunny' sneakers and be ready to hit the courts with your own Tune Squad teammates.

Now, if you wanna talk easy-to-put-together and inexpensive Halloween costume, Uma Thurman's Mia Wallace character from Pulp Fiction is your gal! The black hair vixen was anything but conventional and loved to have fun her way.

To make a good Jack Rabbit Slims twist contest Mia Wallace, all you need are three basics: a white button down, boyfriend shirt, a pair of black wide-leg, ankle skinnies and a simple black ballet flat. Add on Uma's infamous black, pageboy-style wig and you'll be Quentin Tarantino's latest muse in no time flat.

If you don't think matching plaid skirt suits are acceptable on the daily, Oct. 31st is the time to put together your best Cher Horowitz Halloween costume. With the 90’s back in full force, creating a totall Clueless costume is now super easy...

Yellow tartan coordinates really are the key elements of this outfit. As for the rest, anything goes! I recommend keeping it classic as Cher would; matching cardigan and white accessories (mary-jane's, knee-high socks and backpack). On the beauty front, a casual blowout with a bit of volume is always on trend and pink lips must be lined. Don't forget to chew gum for the valley aesthetic!

Last but not least, Catwoman will forever be one of the best Halloween costumes out there. I’m just fascinated with how she can be a villain one second, then a hero the next. She is the ultimate #GirlBoss!

This classic badass costume can be easily reproduced with elements of your own wardrobe like pleather legging and a matching bodysuit although, for an authentic look, I would advise you to purchase an actual PVC onepiece. This is without a doubt the most characteristic element of this feline heroin and what makes her so sexy and sensual. The rest is simple: over-the-knee leather boots (as anyone should already own since they've been hugely popular this season!), black dramatic leather gloves, black eye mask and cat ears.

I probably write about this designer more than any other... Josh Goot visited Perth this week to share  his latest collection with Ricarda in Subiaco.
Ricarda are known for incredible international fashion from some of the most progressive designers, as well as beauty products and contemporary homewares.
Stocking labels such as Proenza Schouler, Peter Pilotto, Mary Katrantzou, Maison Martin Margiela, Comme Des Garcons, Junya Watanabe, Isabel Marant, Golden Goose Deluxe Brand, Tom Binns, Daniela Gregis, Bernhard Wilhelm, Damir Doma, Sacai, Josh Goot, Carven, Alexander Wang, T By Alexander Wang, IRO, Sacai Luck, Etoile Isabel Marant, Rag & Bone, Comme Comme, Silent by Damir Doma, James Perse, Zambesi, Nom*D, Maison Scotch, Jac + Jack, Bassike, Guidi, Rochas Shoes, and beauty houses Aesop and Comme des Garcons.

When I first visited the Subiaco store, I could not believe how huge it was at 450 square meters it feels like the first floor of an edgy department store.
Homeware and furniture pieces from Missoni Home, Kartell and Tom Dixon reflect European fashion and design, perfect for the Perth modern home. A plain white or black walled home with pops of bright colour? Perfect. Italian powerhouse Missoni master colour, comfort and 'homeliness', using their signature prints and luxe fabrications. The Missoni hand towel given to us in our gift bags is probably one of my favourite show tokens to date... this means I need a set though now, right?

Ricarda converted it's Subiaco store into a lengthy runway, and demonstrated such a polished, professional show, that could really lend some pointers to other fashion festivals. Models donned Josh Goot's collection before showing new pieces from international collections for Spring Summer 2014. With close to 100 different looks coming down the runway, it was easy to see pieces to reflect a multitude of clients, and lifestyles.
Personally Josh's collection was my favourite, an IRO dress stole my heart, while Isabel Marant and Alexander Wang create collections I always covet. All images shown here are from Josh Goot's collection, please check out more of the show here.
I posted the lookbook images from this Josh Goot Spring Summer 14 collection back in June, click here to see. Seeing the collection down the runway, I love the grey marle, sporty cuts, and pops of red.
For the record, Josh Goot told me he recognised my face- I had to insist I was not some crazy stalker.
I just really love your work! :)
Thank you to Brenda of Ricarda for sharing these collections with us.
Images kindly borrowed from Heidy, as I wasn't able to shoot great ones from my seat. Thank you!

AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS 2015: BEST & WORST DRESSED

JLo danced like everybody were watching, Celine Dion paid homage to Paris, Demi went Chicago and Megan Trainor made out with Charlie Puth: do you really want to know what happeded at the 2015 American Music Awards?

Last night Los Angeles was all about the music, thanks to the 2015 AMAs.
The host for the night was the iconic Jennifer Lopez, who set the stage on fire dancing to a medley of the year best hits, like Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk, Nicki Minaj’s Anaconda, Beyoncé’s 7/11, The Weeknd’s Can’t Feel My Face, Taylor Swift’s Bad Blood, Drake’s Hotline Bling and Rihanna's BBHMM. On one side the performance looked more like a Dsquared2 commercial, (since everyone was wearing the fall winter 2015 collection), but on the other side it was good to watch JLo giving dance classes to today's artists.
Another highlight of the evening was provided by Celine Dion: the Canedian singer performed Edith Piaf's L'Hymne à L'Amour as a tribute to the victims of November 13.

Somehow the show ended with Justin Bieber performing a medley of its latest singles and One Direction winning Artist of the year.
I believe it is better to move to the fashion.

Let's start with Jennifer Lopez, who found the time to change 9 times during the show (Dsquared2 's performance bodysuit excluded). The star showcased a series of styles that I would describe as following:

WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO LOOK AT?
Charbel Zoe Couture

THE PREDICATABLE NUDES
Look 2: Charbel Zoe Couture / Look 3: Zuhair Murad Fall 2015 Couture /Look 4: Balmain Spring 2016 ;

I DON'T MIND
Look 5: Julien Macdonald Fall 2015 / Look 6: Zuhair Murad Spring 2016 / Look 7: Zuhair Murad Fall 2015

CLASSY & COLORFUL
Look 8: Michael Cino Spring 2016 / Look 9: Michael Costello Spring 2016

Moving to the other guests...
It was a night to remember for these ex Disney/Nickelodeon stars, who showed their different personalities on and off the stage...

DAZZLING & SEXY
Selena Gomez in Givenchy Spring 2014
The best she ever looked and one of my favourite looks of the night.

RETRO GLAM
Demi Lovato in Lorena Sarbu
I am not completely sold on this look, but since the alternative might have been revealing minidresses and wet hair, I will give this ensamble my nulla osta

THANK GOD YOU CHANGED YOUR STYLIST
Ariana Grande in Giambattista Valli couture
The hair might look a bit messy, but it is a cute look all togheter: please Ariana stick to this!

Among my favourite red carpet looks:

SWEET LIKE A CANDY
Zendaya in Emanuel Ungaro Spring 2016
Picking her ensamble straight from the latest Paris Fashion week, Zendaya looked effortlessly beautiful.

THE FEMALE BOSS
Ashley Benson in Max Azria
The Pretty Little Liars star proved to most of the guests that sometimes you do not have to be naked to look sexy.

ELEGANT TO THE BONE
Nina Dobrev in Zuhair Murad Resort 2016; Megan Trainor in Michael Costello
Outfits like these make me love my job a litte more: thank you girls!

Short break: focus on the social media stars...

LEGS OR BOOBS? BOTH
Gigi Hadid in Bao Tranchi
Relax the short do is just temporary and she actually did not cut her beautiful hair.
Moving to the dress (or what is left of it) there is nothing I could possibly like: as seen on the VS Pink carpet, these super sexy outfit only turn out to look cheap on the red carpet.
Dear Gigi, less is more, but in your case I would love to se more taste, more originality and more fabric.

TRY HARD & TRY HARDER
Kendall Jenner in Oriett Domenech ; Kylie Jenner in custom Bryan Hearns
So Kendall was easily my favourite here...but it not difficult to look better than your 18 year old sister who desperately tries to look like a dominatrix at a public event.

Back to the music, with the "girlband vs boyband" section:

WHERE IS THE HARMONY?
Fifth Harmony vs One Direction
Fifth Harmony managed to leave me speachless one more time (and not in a good way), while One Direction proved to me that clearly Harry Styles does not want to look like one of the group when it comes to fashion.

And speaking of the boys...

WILD CHILD vs 50 SHADES OF GREY
Justin Bieber in Fear of God (shirt), Amiri (jeans) and Vans (shoes); Nick Jonas in Topman
Can you imagine them switching their outfits?

Do you know what Fashion-mess means? Take a look:

DID YOU SEE MY PANTIES?
Gwen Stefani in Yousef Al-Jasmi Spring 2016; Ciara in Reem Acra Fall 2015
I am serious: this type of dresses are starting to look dated!
I am done.

DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME
Ellie Goulding in Alexandre Vauthier couture ; Tove Lo

Today's Everyday Fashion: The Baby Shower

Today I'm giving you a little variety, so you can pick your favorite shoes with this outfit! I wore pair #1, the cap toe flats, to my friend Michelle's baby shower this weekend. Flats felt the most comfy and the most appropriate for the venue (a friend's house). The first time I wore this skirt (here), I went with basic black, but this time I wanted something colorful. I think pretty much any bright color top and necklace combo would work with this skirt! Which shoes are your favorite?

Shop Your Style Crushes With ASAP54 | LFW

Getting to grips with new app ASAP54

Hey lovelies! Happy Thursday! What does today have in store for you? I've got some desk time, and a special shoot a little later, but am also TBT-ing/reminiscing over some awesome memories from London Fashion Week - including being a total techy novice with new app ASAP54

I partnered with ASAP54 for the penultimate day of LFW, and got to grips using the shopping app myself. New concepts can be tricky, so I'm going to keep things SIMPLE and explain ASAP54 as best I can, so we can all be in on the ASAP54 goodness!

So here's what you need to know . . .

ASAP54 is a new shopping app. ASAP54 helps you find clothing items, and accessories, which match a picture you upload of something you want to find.  ASAP54 uses the latest visual recognition  to filter through hundreds of products, to perfectly match your search.

The picture you chose to upload can be of a product: e.g. a friend's shoes which you'd like to buy a similar pair to. The picture could also be of something more vague: e.g. a bunch of red roses which you would like a cocktail dress in the same colour of. In a nutshell ASAP54 is a way of finding a product, to match an item or an inspirational image you have seen, which you like the look of, and would like to buy a version of yourself.

If your search results shouldn't return items you like, you can get in touch with one of ASAP54's dedicated in-house stylists who will hand select a list of five items for you, and get back to you with the list within 24 hours.

You can set preferences on everything, from colour, to price, to style. You will initially be directed to use ASAP54's filtering process to narrow down your search; e.g. Shirts & Blouses > Long Sleeve. Additionally you can swipe left to filter further using key words. e.g. Silk

For me, I used ASAP54 to find a pair of shoes in the same pink hue as my LFW organiser. See my infographic below >

As with so many things, the best way to learn is to have a go yourself! You can download ASAP54 from the App Store HERE.  OH and one of the most FUN things about ASAP54? You build your own profile, and follow people you love the style of. That way you can keep in touch with the shopping searches of your favourite stylish friends, and style crushes. You can find me on @monicabeatrice should you wish to!

I am excited to see how ASAP54 will develop as a new social platform, I've already begun to check in regularly with the people I follow. Watch this space . . .

Have an awesome day all!

Love,

MB x

This post is sponsored by ASAP54 - thank you to all of our awesome LFW partners! And thank you to you lovely readers for supporting!

KENDALL, CARA & GIGI: IT-GIRLS SHOW OFF EDGY STYLES FOR THE MTV MOVIE AWARDS

MTV Movie Awards
Last night MTV celebrated the most liked movies of the past season with its annual Movie Awards show.
As usual However, the red carpet did not gravitated towards actors or actresses, but towards these young celebrity models, who played the fashion-card to be noticed on the red carpet.
Let’s have a look:
Gigi Hadidin Versace
B
Gigi Hadid Zayn
A striped suit paired with an eye-catching shirt, which was deliberately left open to catch a glimpse to the lace lingerie.
Well, this was an interesting look after all, but that hairstyle was a huge mistake. Why not going for a low bun or a sleek ponytail to enhance the female-boss vibe of the outfit?
That messy look is just an unrequested distraction.

Kendall Jenner in Kristian Aadnevik Spring 2016 and Dsquared2 shoes
B-
Kedall Jenner red carpet
This might be an unpopular opinion, but this ensamble is a mess. Maybe MsD and I are alone on this subject, but let me explain.
Hair and make up? On point. Dress? Nice. Shoes? Edgy.
However if you mix all these elements together, the final result looks forced: are we supposed to focus on the shoes or on the dress?

Cara Delevigne in Balmain Fall 2016
B--
Cara Delevigne in Balmain
Our review about Balmain latest  fall collection was less than enthusiastic, so I don’t blame Cara for not managing to save this piece from critics.
To be fair this jumpsuits looks so much better on her than on the runway, however I can’t get pass those mesh panels…besides, who wears velvet in spring?
