Royal Fashion Minute: The Jubilee Thanksgiving Mass--Who Is The Best Dressed: Camilla, Kate, Princess Michael of Kent?

Battle of the British Royal Fashion Divas:

Who's The Biggest Fashionista: Camilla Duchess of Cornwall (foreground, left), and Catherine Duchess of Cambridge, Diamond Jubilee Thanksgiving Mass

The Finale of Britain's Diamond Jubilee celebrating the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty The Queen's ascension to the throne, occurred on Tuesday with a Thanksgiving Service at St. Paul's Cathedral, then a wondrous carriage procession through London...

H. M. The Queen Queen Elizabeth II: Sporting a smile, a slight wave, and an Angela Kelly-designed mint coat and Swarovski crystal embellished hat

The UK Royal A-List: (Left to right) Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, prince Charles, H. M. The Queen, Prince William, Catherine Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry

And the de rigueur Balcony Appearance at Buckingham Palace--where H. M. The Queen, Prince Charles and Camilla as well as Prince William, his wife, Catherine Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince Henry (the spare) took part. This balcony appearance culminated in the spectacular Red Arrow's Formation Flyover:

Here in the US, BBC America began showing the entire day LIVE at 4 am--needless to say, I DVR'ed it and watched it later--at a more "civilized" hour, thank you very much. Thank goodness for BBC and the fact I get it as part of my cable channels. Now, let's get to the FASHIONS, since of course, that's what I am interested in. Who was the Biggest Fashion Diva, you may ask? Well, I'll let you be the judge...

Let's begin with H. M. The Queen, Elizabeth II:

Queen Elizabeth arrived at St. Paul's--with her Lady in Waiting, Diana Marion Lady Farnham, as her traveling companion, since her husband, Prince Phillip was in a hospital due to a bladder infection. Lady Farnham (in royal blue next to the Queen in above photo) is her Lady of the Bedchamber, which means she is the person holding the position as THE PERSONAL ATTENDANT to Her Majesty. She is the widow of the 12th Baron Farnham. Imagine having your life devoted to H. M. The Queen. Your ENTIRE LIFE! I wonder if she has a special cell phone to answer her calls when she needs her. And most important: who is paying her? The Queen? The taxpayers? England? Who? Is she part of H. M. The Queen's "staff"? Please tell me she gets a monthly paycheck for this???!!! Well, irregardless, she was there as a Comfort Stand-In on the ride to St. Paul's Cathedral Thanksgiving Service on Tuesday and I would like to think that they are actually friends and it was comforting to the Queen. Now, back to Her Majesty:

Queen Elizabeth wore a mint green princess seamed coat and dress ensemble by her favorite designer, Angela Kelly. It was embellished with silver thread, Swarovski crystals throughout and had an attached mint silk chiffon sash. She may not be up to date in terms of 21st Century Style, but as an 86 year old woman, she was "Giving Fashion"...maybe not Barbara Walters Oscar de la Renta/Carolina Herrera Ladies-Who-Lunch style, but Fashion for her!

Besides that hat with all those crystals, her most prominent accessory was that GORGEOUS--and HUGE--diamond brooch. It is named the "Cullinan III and IV Brooch" and it is made from two of the nine Cullinan diamonds, weighing 94.4 carats and 63.3 carats. In case you did not know, the Cullinan Diamond originally weighed 3,106 carats and it was first discovered in 1905 at a mine near Pretoria in South Africa. The story goes, that originally, it was thrown away (Mon Dieu!) as it was thought too big to be an actual diamond. Once recovered, it was presented to King Edward VII and cuts were used in the Crown Jewels, therefore this amazing brooch.

Queen Elizabeth II's Grandmother, Queen Mary (in photo above) can be seen wearing the diamonds as a brooch--the same brooch H. M. The Queen wore on Tuesday. I love that the Queen "served up" a MAJAH diamond for the Diamond Jubilee! If ever there was a time to break out this gem, it is NOW!

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall:

Printed Diva: Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall and wife to Prince Charles, future King of England, decided to go a bit "Directional" with a champagne and gold colored coat with a "basket-weave" print and dress from one of her favorite designers, Bruce Oldfield. The hat was Philip Treacy, naturally.

I was surprised to see her in such a bold printed ensemble, but at the same time, I realized, that she was making quite a statement and knew that this was an important moment for her and well, this was no time to be a Fashion Wallflower. PS: She rode next to Her Majesty in the carriage procession. Mon Dieu Part Deux!

Now, onto her Fashion Competitor of the Day, Catherine Duchess of Cambridge:

Catherine wore a design from Sarah Burton and the House of Alexander McQueen. It was a blush-colored lace applique fitted knee-length sheath dress design with a high bateau neck, very fitted sleeves and champagne/beige satin waistband.

Her chapeau was by Jane Taylor. The dress fit her ever-so-perfectly and accentuated her I-Do-Not-Eat-Tea Sandwiches figure. She looked "Church" appropriate and well, still gave the Fashionistas out there something to talk about.

The Princesses:

Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice of York: The two lovely daughters of Prince Andrew, Duke of York and Sarah Duchess of York. Side Note: poor Sarah, by the way, she was not invited--since she is persona non grata--to any of these festivities; I really, really hope she was in a beach in Mykonos having her own Diamond Jubilee Festivities with a bunch of her best Gays! Anyhow...moving on. The two Princesses were in contrasting colored ensembles for the Jubilee Thanksgiving Mass: Princess Eugenie wore a lovely purple
dress by Suzannah. The bag was by Loro Piano. Her mushroom-colored
stilettos were also by Kurt Geiger.
Princess Beatrice wore a periwinkle blue Kinder Aggugini coat dress with tan colored Kurt Geiger stilettos. Her bag was designed by Lemeresca.

Blue Blood: Sophie Countess of Wessex--wife of Prince Edward Earl of Wessex wore a navy silk ziberline suit with lace applique and gathered princess seamed peplum detail. The Princess Royal, Princess Anne (right) attended in a jeweled blue applique' coat and dress ensemble with popped collar, long fitted sleeves, nude heels, gloves and clutch; quite feminine for her, since well, she's usually looking rather--how shall I say this--BUTCH!

The Real Fashion Diva: But here's my Favorite Royal of the entire Diamond Jubilee Thanksgiving Service--Princess Michael of Kent. German/Czech Republic-born Baroness Marie Christine Anna Agnes Hedwig Ida von Reibnitz, Princess Michael of Kent attended the Diamond Jubilee Thanksgiving Services wearing this gunmetal violet silk shantung suit with notched collar, billowing iridescent silk organza sleeves and princess-seamed fitted knee-length pencil skirt with silk chiffon godet inset.

When I saw her on TV entering St. Paul's Cathedral , I thought "Who Is That Fashion Diva?" And yes, of course, it was Princess Michael of Kent. She is like Joan and Jackie Collins all wrapped up in one fabulous person. The Princess knows Fashion and knows Drama. Take a peek at her Wikipedia and you'll know what I mean. Because of this suit of hers above, I have to give it to her as the Winner of my Unofficial "Best Dressed at the Diamond Jubilee Thanksgiving Service". Catherine, take note...

Who Do You Guys Think Was The Best Dressed Royal Gal at Tuesday's Diamond Jubilee Thanksgiving Service/Festivities? Let me know...

10th Annual CFDA 2011 Awards Red Carpet--Models and Designers

Fashion A-List...

Last night's 2011 CDFA Awards Red Carpet was not only full of Hollywood's A-List ladies--but also, chock full of models and their designers. This event, as you saw from my previous posting is on par with many of the top red carpet events and is known delivering Fashion--with a Capital "F" (hello Miss Lady Gaga!). Anyhow, let's see if these gorgeous supermodels and their designers make the NY Fashion Grade. Let's begin with...

Miranda Kerr: Australian Victoria's Secret Angel Supermodel--and SuperMommy, Miranda Kerr, wore Michael Kors Resort 2012, a black tank dress with high sarong-silhouette slit, side cut-outs and gold low-slung belt. Very Michael Kors, very Americana Sportswear-meets-St. Tropez, and very Chic! I especially love the "Wonder Woman" gold cuffs. I bet those are to ward off any EVIL Fashion Spirits. I need those!

Karolina Kurkova: Miss Kurkova--one of my FAVE Supermodels wore an emerald green sequin HOODIE gown with pockets by Diane Von Furstenberg. Sequins, Hoodie, and Pockets? I am Done and Done! Only a model--or a Drag Queen--can get away with this! Love--even the "high-water" length of the gown. This Czech beauty knows how to WORK IT!

Hana Soukupova:
Another fabulous model from the Czech Republic, six-footer Hana Soukupova, dazzled on the 2011 CFDA Awards Red Carpet in a one-shoulder ruffled and tiered gown by Marchesa Spring 2011. Love it all. Now this is how you wear a gown to the CFDA Awards Lucy Liu!

Marchesa Designers: Speaking of Marchesa, they were there--English-born New York-based designers Keren Craig (Left) and Georgina Chapman (Right), also dazzled in their own designs as they stepped onto the purple CFDA Awards carpet last night.

Doutzen Kroes: Dutch-born beauty Doutzen Kroes also decided to give SLIT (like several of the other models) in this fire-red (almost) one-shoulder asymmetrical gown from J. Mendel. The subtle diagonal draping and pleating is exquisite. And those PUMPS!!!! Hello!

Derek Lam and Liya Kebede: Designer Derek Lam, seen above with Ethiopian-born Supermodel Liya Kebede--wearing Derek Lam of course. She looked very "Easy-Breezy" Resort-esque, love the fresh, flowing side-parted hair as well as the mini clutch. Effortless. I also love the wine-colored slip-on's on Derek.

Chanel Iman: Speaking of "Easy-Breezy", Chanel Iman was at the CFDA Awards last night and wore a very relaxed turquoise-colored caftan with high center-front slit (a theme of the night?) by Max Axria. She was very Disco 1979 as well (like Karolina Kurkova, see above). This is also looking like a Theme. Ladies, better get that Saturday Night Fever album out of the closet and start dancin'!

Karlie Kloss and Jason Wu: Models loved those relaxed comfy dresses, don't they? Here model-of-the-moment Karlie Kloss wore a simple, spaghetti strap red gown with skinny black belt from Designer-of-the-Moment Jason Wu. I can see this gown on First Lady Michelle Obama like TOMORROW! Jason, seen above with Karlie, looked very dapper in suit and tie. This just could be the CUTEST Prom Date Photo.

Zac Posen and Sessilee Lopez: Designer Zac Posen arrived to last night's CFDA Awards with American model of Dominican descent Sessilee Lopez, who wore a gold-nude sweetheart neckline multi-seamed gown by Zac Posen, naturally. That gold-nude color always looks AMAZING on women with the fabulous skin tone of Sessilee. I also like the fact that Zac never met a cummerbund he didn't like. Bring back the cummerbund I say! Another example of a cute Prom Pic!

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen: Actresses, Designers and BILLION-DOLLAR Mega Brand, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen were Nominated for the Emerging Talent CFDA Award last night for their clothing design company "The Row" which has garnered both critical and editorial acclaim, the "Anna Wintour Stamp of Approval" and doing fabulously well at retail. They attended last night's event, of course, in style! Mary-Kate (Right) wore a gold Chanel jacket with a The Row (their own line) fishtail hem skirt and Louis Vuitton strappy heels. Ashley (Left), wore The Row dress, and Manolo Blahnik heels. Both accessorized it with great handbags from their line (naturally), The Row. The bags alone are estimated to retail for $5,450!!!

MET GALA 2016 : THE RED CARPET

The first Monday of May marks an important date for the fashion industry: the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala. The fanciest red carpet of the year, where guests (all personally invited by Vogue’s editor Anna Wintour, and wealthy enough to pay $25,000 for an individual ticket) are expected to dress according to a theme, that  traditionally reflects the latest luxurious exhibit of the Costume Institute.
This year theme/exhibit is called “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology”. An ambitious project aimed to explore the blurring line between handmade fashion and machine-made fashion: a tribute to the technological evolution of the fashion industry.
Therefore it is no surprise to see Apple as a sponsor of the event.
Honorary chairs have been reserved to Karl Lagerfeld, Miuccia Prada and Nicolas Ghesquière; the host of the night was of course Anna Wintour, while this year’s co-hosts happened to be Apple's chief design officer Jonathan Ive, Taylor Swift and Idris Elba.

All the biggest names in fashion and Hollywood gathered together in New York to strut on the red carpet, but who was the queen of the night? Which designer managed to stand out in the crowd? Any worst dressed?
MET GALA 2016 : THE RED CARPET
Watch out stars & designers: if the dress is bad we would tell it!
Mark my words, because this is the most brutally honest review you will find on the internet: at #TEB we do not care about famous names or brands’ reputations, no one paid us to feature a specific opinion, so take a seat because it is going to be fun...

LITERAL HOMAGE TO THE THEME

Claire Danes in Zac Posen
To everyone thinking "so what, isn't this a typical Posen's design", well shut up.
It glows in the dark!!
Genius idea and amazing tailoring: Posen is definitely the go-to-designer when it comes to the MET.
Isn't this the look of the year?

BEST LOOKS OF THE NIGHT

Beyoncé in Givenchy
As you know I wasn't a fan of her naked "gown" last year, because to me it had nothing to do with the particular theme of the night. However I can't say the same about this year's latex number: I love it. It's daring, as her character, and might not feel comfortable, but the design is exquisite in my eyes. However let me state a fact: this is definitely one of those dresses that works only on specific people. Definitely not for everyone.

Zendaya in Michael Kors
This look oozes luxury from every angle: the design feels old school but the embellishment is a modern touch. The styling? A show-stopper.

Sienna Miller in Gucci
Given the night's theme, I was wondering how Gucci would have perfomed...Well, looking at this metallic gown on Sienna I would say: so good.

Katy Perry in Prada
Costumy, I agee. Especially the styling, but can we talk about the dress? It fits the theme to the bone.
katy perry met gala

Kate Hudson in Versace
As you will witness through this review, this will happen to be the only decent Versace gown of the entire event. Trust me.
Back to the dress, I like the construction and how it fits Kate, althought the styling could have been more dramatic.

Olivia Wilde in Michael Kors
Maternity style with an edge. Definitely old school in the design, but still a good choice for the gala.
olivia wilde pregnant

Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen
Finally Ms Kidman wears something we can all agree on liking. Pure elegance.

OFF TOPIC, BUT STILL GOOD

Blake Lively in Burberry
It took me a while to appreciate this: the cape brings on all the drama, but was it enough? The handcraft was beautiful, indeed this blush pink silk-organza design counts hand-dyed and sewn perspex petals. However I didn't feel the futuristic vibe.
blake lively gossip girl

Nina Dobrev in Marchesa
A cute and elegant look. I am sure that at a closer look the embellishment would feel amazing, however with no 'wow effects' à la Zac Posen, this gown seems more appropriate for a 'Gone with the wind' revival.
nina dobrev red carpet

Jessica Chastain in Prada
No sign of future, just classic yet exquisite details. Besides I still have to find a blue gown that doesn't do justice to Jessica's beauty.
jessica chastain red carpet

Lea Seydoux in Louis Vuitton
The French actress made her official debut on the MET's red carpet wearing as expected a Louis Vuitton design, as she was recently announced as the new face of the historical brand.
However, I don't even know if we can consider this a gala-worthy look, though Lea oozes class and mistery. Besides, note that this is the only decent Louis Vuitton outfit of the night.
lea seydoux louis vuitton

Emily Blunt in Michael Kors
How many times have we seen this design? Many.
Luckily for Michael Kors, I am one of those who never gets tired to see it on a red red carpet.
emily blunt the girl on the train

Kate Bosworth in Dolce&Gabbana
A highly embellished look, no doubt, but I only like it from the waist-up.

Zoey Deutch in Dolce&Gabbana
A good living advertise for Dolce&Gabbana: out of theme, but it is impossible to call this not gala-worthy.
zoey dutch red carpet

Zoe Saldana in Dolce&Gabbana
And the "Longest train award" goes to...Zoe!
Something tells me that with a shorter train, I wouldn't have paid attention to this look: not a fan, I know how to prise a drama-queen when I see one.

DID ANYONE PAY YOU TO WEAR THIS?

Taylor Swift in Louis Vuitton
So Anna Wintour spent Vogue's money to give Taylor Swift an extreme makeover, the May cover of the magazine, the title of co-host at the 2016 Met Gala...and a dress perfect for the VMA?
Not Impressed.
taylor swift platinum hair

Kim Kardashian & Kanye West in Balmain
This Balmain/Kardashian/Jenner/West affair should come to an end. I am sure that MsD would have used more flattering words to describe this circus, I will try to emulate her.
Why forcing the styling that far? To keep the focus off the clothes?
Blue contacts, a questionable make up and denim on the MET gala's red carpet: reconsider your crush on Balmain, because ther is nothing appealing here.
kim kardashian balmain

Kylie Jenner in Balmain
A thousand times better than Kim Kardashian, but still plain.
Plus, the entire presentation aged this young girl of ten years.

Dakota Johnson in Gucci
Dakota Johnson and the new wave of Gucci designs are a match made in heaven...but not this time, and especially with futuristic theme.
dakota johnson fifty shades darker

Lupita Nyong'o in Calvin Klein
The dress is nothing special, even if I like the color on her skin. The hair represent a desperate move to make the dress feel relevant.
lupita nyong'o hair

Emma Stone in Prada
This is a hard one, because everything looks beautiful, but I can't help myself from seeing this as a last minute design-idea.

FKA Twigs in Versace
I would have never told that this was a Donatella Versace design...because basically there is no actual design, just ideas badly mixed together.
fka twigs

Saoirse Ronan in Christopher Kane
Ok those fluffy feathers are giving me nightmares...especially those on the hem. Christopher Kane would never be on my favourites list.
saoirse ronan red carpet

Ciara in H&M
A questionable retro/goth styled wig and a nude tent. Nice catch CiCi.

Hailee Steinfeld in H&M
The styling is so cheap that it hurts, while the dress couldn't be less predictable.
hailee steinfeld

Sarah Jessica Parker in Monse
As soon as I got a glimpse at SJP look I thought I was looking at a vintage red carpet photo. No way that this could be a recent red carpet look from the American actress. I was wrong.
I have never thought that I would say this one day, but Sarah Jessica Parker totaly failed a Met Gala's theme.

Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton
I like Alicia Vikander for Louis Vuitton, but after seeing her awards season look, this one feels like a joke.
It fits the theme, but not the gala.

NO

Selena Gomez in Louis Vuitton
Let's close the discussion on Louis Vuitton with the worst look ever presented at the gala. I am so sorry that Selena was the one choosen to wear it.

Kristen Stewart in Chanel
I would never understand Chanel's fascination for Kristen Stewart...

Kerry Washington in Marc Jacobs
I would love to copy and paste what I wrote about Sarah Jessica Parker here.
How could anyone style a beautiful pregnant woman like this?

Emma Watson in Calvin Klein
Emma Watson is known for her tastefull yet modern fashion sense. This time I feel like we are not ready to understand and appreciate this outfit.
It is just ugly.
emma watson style

Rachel McAdams in Valentino haute couture
I don't know how a Valentino design could be featured among the worst looks of the night.
However there is nothing remotely appealing about this dress.

Rita Ora in Vera Wang
Among my few certainties in life comes Rita Ora featured in - as usual - the worst dressed list.
The girl has definitely a talent...

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen in The Row
Should I really comment this?

Nicki Minaj in custom Moschino
Custom made: when a designer manufactures a one of a kind look for the customer.
In the fashion industry this is a form of respect and esteem to the client by the designer.
The problem is when the designer is called Jeremy Scott...

Zayn Malik in Versace
The most ridiculous man suit I have ever seen.
He might be Gigi's boyfriend, but doesn't he look like an accessory to his plus-one?

Lady Gaga in Versace
Let me resume the Versace's styling crescendo: Kate Hudson, FKA Twigs, Zayn Malik and now Lady Gaga.
Wow.
