5 Fashion Trends We Learned Form Clueless

Do you prefer "Fashion victim" or "ensembly challenged"..?

Can you believe our favourite blockbuster from the 90's is turning 21 years old this month ? 21 years of sass, giggles, wisdom and gorgeous outfits just went by while it seems like the famed movie was airing  for the first time just a little while ago. I mean, seriously, who hasn't been completely obsessed over Dionne's sense of Fashion, Tai's incredibly chill vibe and Cher's... Well, Cher's everything; from a colorful and kind personality, to a breathtaking beauty, to an undeniable faith in great love. Not to mention that all of theses gals truly knew how to pull off an outfit and how to keep-up with trends that lasted over two decades now. Let's look into it a little deeper…

1. OVERSIZED BLAZER

Oversized blazers have been a thing since the 80's but Clueless showed a more polished version of the outerwear garment, making it super versatile and easy to wear on the daily. They're the best option for an unconventional Autumn jacket and an essential to achieve the boyfriend look (along with BF jeans!). You can wear an oversized blazer along with skinny dress pants for a modern twist on the woman's corporate suit or you can simply layer it on your shoulders with harem pants, a white tee and a nice pair of sandals for a night out in town. Also, shootout to the timeless white button-down shirts, newly trendy silver footwear and raging knee-high sock game !

2. FRONT BUTTON-DOWN SKIRT

Speaking of button-down, if you don't own a front button-down skirt yet, you better head over to the closet Forever 21/H&M/River Island/Mango/you get the picture around. This is one of the biggest must-haves this season and promises to be so, for a long time coming. So it's like making an investment! Fast-Fashion retailers will have a wide variety of options for very good prices while designers created their own original versions of the 90's classic, twisting it up with their signature styles, for a slightly higher price. My top three button-down's included LOFT, Carven and Etienne Marcel ;)

3. MAD FOR PLAID

Plaid has been one of the oldest and most worn pattern all-around the world for more than five centuries, mostly because associated to monarchy and posh lifestyle. Although it is such a timeless print, it can become extremely old-fashioned if worn the wrong way. Worn the right way though, it is one of those trends that anyone could pull-off, making a major Fashion statement ! Cher and Dionne certainly knew how to sport their classic suits back in 1995, without looking too generic. It is all about appropriating yourself the pattern in the right colour, shape, length and accessorizing it well. Cher's inclination for the colour yellow is such a character statement; bold, happiness-seeker and goal digger !

4. LITTLE RED DRESS

With all do respect for the infamous LBD, a new slip dress is slowly making its way back to the top and it's the little red one ! Of course, Cher knew right away that such a piece in such a colour was a go-getter for the perfect entrance at anytime; she made sure to sport it in a more casual but still Beverly Hills way, while attending a party in the Valley, and to dress it up in a sultry, sexy but very PG-13 kinda-way for a date night with Christian. I'm pretty confident it would have worked if Christian wasn't actually a cake boy but hey, A+ for effort !

I am such a fan of this one, this one and that one too.

5. BLACK & WHITE

Last but not least, the black and white sporty trend. A huge thanks to mind-blowers like Muehleder, Michael Kors, Stella McCartney who single-handedly brought back this genius Fashion genre to life a few seasons ago. Other brands like Alala, FILA, River Island and Pierre Hardy kept-up with it, making it what it is today in the high-Fashion industry. Sportswear no longer have to remain in your gym locker, that's a fact, but if you feel like styling-up a bit your athleisure game, be our guest ;)

Which of these trends are you currently rocking? Feel like trying on a new one this Summer?

Have a great day guys, I'm outtie !

Project Runway Season 10 Recaps: Episode 1 "A Tenth Anniversary Fashion Party"

Happy 10th Anniversary Project Runway!

What do the Teletubbies:

Dumpster Diving:

And Mosquito Netting:

Have In Common with Project Runway?  Well, read on kids...

This past Thursday night was the PREMIERE of Season 10 of Project Runway on Lifetime. Yes, kids, it's the Tenth Anniversary. The show began in 2004 so it's actually been only 8 years but TEN SEASONS. I was part of Season 2, which we shot in the Summer of 2005 and debuted in December of that year. So, in case you're countin', I am part of "Vintage Project Runway". Now, back to the new season, the show has a new set of sixteen designers; lots of talent and LOTS of "characters" and a BIG Flashy First Challenge Runway Show (The BIGGEST in Project Runway history!!) that took place in Times Square. For many, many seasons now, I've had the honor of being asked to Recap the Episodes of my "little ol' show" and once again, I'm back at it!! Hope you guys enjoy Season 10 and yes, also enjoy my Recaps with a "Nick twist".

So...let's get to the Haute and Not-So-Haute of Episode One of Season 10:

The Judges: (left to right) Costume Designer/Stylist Patricia Field, actress Lauren Graham, Marie Clair Fashion Director Nina Garcia, Michael Kors and Heidi Klum--For the first Challenge, the producers brought in actress Lauren Graham and the first ever Project Runway "Guest Judge", Patricia Field. She was a hoot with her throaty I-smoke-two-packs-of-Marlboro-Reds-a-day voice, great insight and at 71 years old (yes, SEVENTY ONE kids, Thanks Wikipedia!), dresses like a woman who's 29--and looks good! (No Oscar de la Renta Barbara Walters suits for her, thank you very much!).

The Teletubbies Connection:

Domo arigato: For the first episode challenge, the designers had to bring one look from home that best exemplified their design aesthetic. Once at Parsons--on the show--they then had to create a "companion look" with only $100 and one day. One of the designers--and more "Kooky" characters of the season, Kooan Kosuke (above) from Japan, made these two looks above.

Kooky: His first look from home, included this jumper with oversized teal blue polka dot applique, laminated shoulder strap detail and printed long sleeve top. I thought it was kinda fun and quirky. He definitely had a point of view and his style--even in just one look, reminded me a lot of Spanish fashion designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada (her fried egg dress with baguette hat design on the right photo above).

Tubbie: However, for his second made-at-Parsons look, judge Michael Kors criticized it as being a little too Teletubbies-esque in its shape. He's right. Kooan was also criticized by Nina Garcia and Kors as well for possibly being too much of a "Character" and less of a Designer per se. We'll see how serious he is and if he'll annoy Miss Nina more throughout the season with his "Harajuku JapFro" antics. I have a feeling, however that the fans--and viewers of the show--will just LOOOOVE him!

The Freegan Hipster:

What's for Breakfast: A First for Project Runway is the fact that one of the designers, a 29-year-old bearded chap, originally from Brazil, named Fabio Costa, is a FREEGAN. I didn't even know what that even meant until A) he described it and B) I looked it up (Thanks Wiki again!). In case you don't know, a Freegan is someone who "reclaims and eats food that has been discarded". Yep, you go "Dumpster Diving' for your daily meals. I wonder how difficult it was for him to eat from what the P.A.'s got for the designers every day during their filming from nearby restaurants. Or did he specifically instruct the producers that they had to send someone out Dumpster Diving for his breakfast, lunch and dinner? I wanna know.

So now, let's get to who ended up on the Top and the Bottom of the first challenge:

The Top:

South American Pleating and Folding: Project Runway Season 10 contestant Ven Budhu (left) with his designs and a design by Angel Sanchez on Miss World 1995 Jacqueline Aquilera of Venezuela

The designers on top in the first episode were Guyana-born Ven Budhu (left) who showed two stunning looks included an ivory crepe palazzo pant and jacket ensemble with a folded-and-draped "Flower" bustier and a bubblegum pink high neck sleeveless dress with diagonal pleats. His designs remind me of another South American designer, famous for designing for Miss Venezuelas, Miss Worlds and Miss Universes--as well as beautiful wedding gowns--Angel Sanchez. To me, Ven should have won this first challenge. However...

Pretty Gown, Wonky LBD: The winner was Christopher Palu. The judges "Oohed" and "Ahhed" at his first look--a gown constructed in strips of satin. And basically they gave him the win because of it. It was very pretty, but I'm not sure how fair this was since this was the look he brought from home and did not make at Parsons with a limited budget and time. Personally, I wasn't a fan of the LBD he did for his second companion look. The fit was wonky and the back zipper was buckling (see right photo above). It was a little amateur hour for me. But he won, nonetheless.

The Bottom:

Mosquito Netting Prom Girl Goes Shopping: The bottom two included the looks from designer Lantie Foster. She "re-worked" vintage-like fabrics but achieving results that the judges did not like. In fact, Miss Nina (never one to hold back) said that the one dress above was "Horrible". Ouch. Miss Lantie likes to do these center front bib things that well, she shouldn't be doing. And then on top of it she makes this dress in a muddy-colored tulle that looked like mosquito netting as Kors pointed out. It was all wrong, poor thing (and I didn't even begin to talk about WHY OH WHY did she style it with a big ol' I'm-going-shopping-on-a-Sunday-at-2pm bag!!??). Hashtag Styling Fail.

Knit Girl Bye-Bye: But deemed the worst were the knit designs from oh-so-pretty Beatrice Guapo (she should be an anchor--or at least the weather girl for Good Day LA Fox Morning Show--if the designing thing fails). She had trouble throughout this challenge with her sewing which I just didn't understand being that she grew up in the industry. And then her final designs were called sad (they were). That maroon/terracotta-colored top on the left photo looked as if she just got some fabric remnant and slopped it on the model and tied it with a belt. It had little design quality or originality. During the show, Guapo said that she loves designing/making scarves. She should probably stick to that.

Anyhow, without further ado, here's my Recap of the 1st Episode for MyLifetime.com:

"A Tenth Anniversary Fashion Party"

Eight Years, Ten Seasons

Happy 10th Anniversary "Project Runway"! As a member of the "Runway
Club" (it's like the Mickey Mouse Club, but more fashionable), it's not
surprising that the show has survived this long. Back in 2005, when I
did Season 2, I knew that I was going to be part of something that was
iconic in TV History. The show premiered almost 8 years ago and well, as
we now know, it has become the "Grand-Daddy" of all Fashion Reality
Competition Shows. In fact, last week, while on a trip to Mykonos,
Greece, I was switching channels and stumbled on Greek TV and guess what
was on my hotel TV? Season 6 of "Project Runway"! In Greece! Say no
more. 2012 marks the Tenth Season of the show and last night's premiere
was a doozy so let's get to the Recap'ing shall we.

Center of the Universe Fashion Bang

It is quickly revealed that the first challenge and runway show is
taking place in the HEART of NYC, "Center of the Universe": Times
Square, for the first time EVAH! Models are under a tent squeezing into
their clothes; designers are putting the last minute touches on their
garments and the Stars of the show — Heidi, Tim, Nina and Michael — are
greeting the crowd with a Champagne toast. Cut to the previous day...

The Who, What and Where Are You From

Since Season 3, I have had the privilege to judge the castings and
this past Spring, I took part in the LA Castings for Season 10. I,
obviously, had no idea who would make the Final 16, so it was with great
delight to see several of the designers I saw during those castings,
actually make it onto the show. This included Elena (Miss Futuristic
Thierry Mugler-meets-Claude Montana-meets Lady Gaga), the lovely
Beatrice "jersey knit" and blonde-haired Melissa, who loves black and
edgy.

GOLDEN GLOBES 2016: The Red Carpet

zendaya golden globes
"Dress to impress": this was the mantra of the 73rd annual Golden Globes Awards, which took place last night in LA.
The best movies & tv shows have been awarded, but who stole the show on the red carpet?
A delightful runway of stars in luxurious designer gowns: are you ready to see who made it (and who did not made it) to #TEB best dressed list?

Let's start:

SHINE BRIGHT LIKE A DIAMOND
Brie Larson (Best Actress Drama_Room) in Calvin Klein ; Olivia Wilde in Michael Kors
Brie Larson golden globes
These two ladies stole my heart at first sight: simple shapes and dazzling details...well you have my attention!
Olivia Wilde channelled her inner bombshell selecting a beautiful burgundy Michael Kors design, while Brie Larson left everyone speachless wearing a golden Calvin Klein number, which looked even more appropriate when she walked on stage to receive the award for Best Actress Drama.

PERFECTION IS AN ATTITUDE
Zendaya in Marchesa_Cate Blanchett in Givenchy
zendaya golden globes
There is no way that Zendaya and Cate Balanchett could not made it to the best dressed list: you can bet your money on that.
The young fashionista debuted at the Globes wearing a romantic burgundy Marchesa gown; Carol's actress played the couture card instead, opting for an exquisite Givenchy design.

UNEXPECTED
Jennifer Lopez in Giambattista Valli Couture_Jennifer Lawrence (Best Actress Comedy_JOY) in Dior Couture
jennifer lawrence golden globes
The world is definitely changing.
Jennifer Lawrence finally got it right in Dior, while JLo refuses revealing outfits to wear one of the most beautiful Valli dresses I have ever seen.
Ok I do not know what happened, but I love it: keep it up girls!

FAIRYTALE DREAM
Jenna Dewan in Zuhair Murad_Viola Davis in Marchesa
channing tatum wife
When your dress looks like a midnight sky, you have good chances to look like a star: congratulations to Jenna Dewan Tatum- and Viola Davis' stylists, who found the perfect design to enhance their clients' natural beauty!

OFF WHITE
Saoirse Ronan in Yves Saint Laurent Couture_Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton_Lily James in Marchesa
alicia vikander golden globes
Pure white dressed became a trend last night: Saoirse Ronan, Alicia Vikander and Lily James managed to sell the trend to me in the blink of an eye...

Taraji P. Hanson (Best Actress in a TV Series_Empire) in Stella McCartney_Jane Fonda in Yves Saint Laurent Couture_Laverne Cox in Elizabeth Kennedy
taraji p hanson empire award
...while it took me a little bit more to be fully convinced by Taraji P. Hanson, Jane Fonda and Laverne Cox.
And here is why: Taraji's dress and styling looked too simple, no wow factor; Jane Fonda's choice seemed too heavy, while Laverne's hairstyle felt a bit too classic.
However these three ladies got my permission to the best dressed list, as their class and personalities on the red carpet managed to cancel all my doubts.

CLASSIC IN BLACK
Lady Gaga (Best Actress in a Mini-series_American Horror Story: Hotel) in Atelier Versace_Kirsten Dunst in Valentino
lady gaga golden globes
Going against the flow but looking undeniably beautiful, Lady Gaga (who went home with a golden globe for her performance in ASH: Hotel) and Kirsten Dunst.
An alluring monochromatic compromise between elegance and sensuality: WOW!

SPARKLING NUMBERS
Kate Bosworth in Dolce & Gabbana_Julianne Moore in Tom Ford
julianne moore tom ford
If I have to pick an adjective I would never associate with a sequin dress, that would be "boring". Unfortunately for Kate Bosworth and Julianne Moore this was the word that come to my mind when I first saw them: nice designs, but no spark.

OK
Amy Adams in Versace_Jada Smith in Versace_Heidi Klum in Marchesa
versace red carpet
Good choices, just not memorable.
However I have to admit that I loved the bold colors of Amy Adams- and Jada Smith's Versasce gowns. Moving to Heidi Klum, well she looked nice, but among all the beautiful Marchesa designs we saw last night, this was not a show-stopper.

Olivia Palermo in Delpozo_Jamie Alexander in Genny_Eva Longoria in George Hobieka
olivia palermo golden globes
Featured in the "Ok" category also Olivia Palermo, who actually looked amazing, but that dress was more suitable for the after party.
Jamie Alexander's daring gown and Eva Longoria's romatic choice proved to be worthy of the red carpet, but their hairstyle prevented me from fully love their looks.

UNDERWHELMING
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Versace_Rooney Mara in Alexander McQueen
rosie huntington whiteley golden globes
This is a hard one: the best dressed top model of 2015 failed to amaze me at a major event.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is a natural stunner, but this time her beauty saved the dress: I truly expect more from her.
I was expecting more also from Rooney Mara, whose edgy style always compell me; however this McQueen gown only managed to  wash her out completely.

Emilia Clarke in Valentino_Eva Green in Elie Saab_Emmy Rossum in Armani PrivĂ©
emilia clarke red carpet
Underwhelming choices for Game of Thrones, Penny Dreadful and Shameless stars as well.
Personally I would have given Emilia Clarke's Valentino gown to Eva Green, Emmy Rossum's hot Armani PrivĂ© dress to Emilia, and Eva's golden Elie Saab to Emmy.
Complicated? Yes, but it would have looked far better.

Well guys, here we are:
#TEB's least favourite looks from the 2016 Golden Globes Awards belong to...

Kate Hudson in Michael Kors & Katy Perry in Prada
kate hudson katy perry golden globes
I am so shocked to feature Kate Hudson here, as much as I am not surprised by Katy Perry's poor styling choice.
Actually the dresses were fine, but:
-dear Kate, we are at the Golden Globes not the Grammys (BTW fire your stylist);
-and Katy...actually even Miss Piggy has a better hairstylist.
