Hello Goodbye Fashion Week

Tuesday 14th March

We finally got around to checking out the gallery!

Sometimes leaving the house and interacting with people really sucks. We had one of those situations today. You know you suck at customer service when despite solving their problem you made them cry.

Passionfruit Ginger Crumble $8
Vanilla custard, fresh banana, traditional butter
burst biscuit, passionfuit cream, ginger oat topping

After a trip to the office/my safe place we went for ice cream, ginger & passion-fruit frozen custard, yum! I loved the tanginess of the passion fruit cream paired with NY cheese cake like crumbs and freshness of the ginger. At $8 it seems to be the standard for desserts these days, though I think they should be priced around $6. Service was excellent! I always seem to get the same waiter and he's very warm and friendly. The A is a reference to a show I used to like (too many filler episodes and the game was reset multiple times that now no one cares who A is).

Over to South Wharf for a Tuesday Dinner at Bangpop. Tuesday Special - $10 pad thai (save $6). We discovered this special last time, though we were already set on what we'd order. On this visit we didn't see it advertised on the wharf side.

Wednesday

Set on the Next Runway was the UK show, in the great outdoors! It's five degrees warmer than outside in the hall and so we were glad to be outside. A warm but gloomy day - my kinda day! Its been a heat wave lately. This was during fashion week outside the museum.

Back to main street for dinner, Oppa Korean. Somewhere new. Cheap and delicious though cash only. Quite amazing that they were open till 11pm on a Thursday night, we have mixed feelings about how it felt like a Wednesday out there. Review coming soon.

Friday

An afternoon with the dentist, a clean, scans and check cost $180! It hurts and now I can feel the gaps between my teeth. Why is life so painful?

Wrapping up the main and last fashion week of the festival, Myer hosted a runway. A small event as David Jones was a partner. Outside you could get your hair and makeup done, but as we came straight from the dentist we didn't have any time for exploring. Inside there was drinks, coffee, ice cream and a nail bar. We hit everything inside, yay! A full post is coming up soon.

Opened on May 28, 1878 at the Opera Comique HMS Pinafore is one of the most popular Gilbert and Sullivan operas! A "timeless social satire of everything from the ruling classes and institutions (and any kind of class system) to patriotism, politicians and the public
service, ... and the heroic (and sometimes pompous) nature of serious opera".

A top 3/5 Gilbert and Sullivan classic along with pirates, gondoliers (saw last year with grandpa and the mikado (which was amazing). The classic baby swap in social ranking. Captain and the bf - visual plot hole is that the girl and her guy are similar age while the captain is her father... All three main couples get their happy ending of course. Sir Joseph marries his cousin. It's the Regency era. I love main girl's white empire dress! Heavily beaded. Great show, one that we can't wait to see again next month.

Saturday

By 2pm on a Saturday in our small little town all the restaurants were closed and shops were closing up. Only the iga was open. Rustica's opening up here within the year and we can't wait to add life to the town !

There is no sincerer love than the love of food - Mama Marija

On this particular Saturday we're heading over to market and lunch. Enjoy it while you still can! Because we've got more dental surgery coming up followed by a month on the liquid diet.

Conveniently we're in time for end of day deals! As we forget this was happening (in between shows and dental hell) we didn't bring bags or a Granny market trolley. But you'll need those, also a husband to help hold stuff while dive in. Bring cash, small notes.

Sunday

We went for a local dinner, over at the next town, we were going to go for Huxtaburger but they were out of chicken so we went for souvalakis instead. Any recommendations for Hawthorn/Glenferrie?

Ya Mena $11.50 & Chips $3.50 = $15

Soft sov wrap with my favourite chicken honey mustard, coriander (just a touch) and caramelized onions! It was perfect. This is the same one I had last time. For $15 I had a sov (bigger than Jimmy's) paired with feta/oregano fries it was a meal. Crispy chips, for $3.50 it's quite a good deal for chips (if you want fries, McD is down the street) especially as you have the option for them plain or with thee feta/oregano. They come in three sizes, the smallest is my medium. Medium is to be shared between two.

5 Affordable Online Stores You Probably Had No Idea Existed

The only thing that makes me happier than a Friday is a good retail therapy! And as much as I love strolling around the first floor at Maison Ogilvy or browsing the carefully curated new arrivals at HoltRenfrew.com, my monthly budget simply doesn't allow me to indulge in high-fashion and luxury items every time. But as a fashion girl, I made it my mission to remain on top of my style-game at all costs… Or in this case, at practically no cost ;)

Piqued your curiosity just yet ? Check out the five online boutiques I simply could have never done it without…

1) TOBI

TOBI always carries the most exciting things online and I find their style to be very reminiscent of Nasty Gal's for often, a quarter of the price. Whether it's basics, intimates, swimwear, evening-wear, ROMPERS!.. TOBI has it all and even more. The 'Sale' feature is probably my favourite as it allows me to get all the pieces I missed out on at a fraction of the price. And every career girl knows that a good sale always makes the bank account happy. Sorta… ;)

featuring the Velvet Choker Shift Dress, $49

Missguided is such a good party brand for twenty-something ladies like myself! Their overall aesthetic channels the perfect combination of femininity, sensuality and effortless style, offering a great variety of pieces fit for a queen. Warning! If, like myself, you have a soft spot for the cool fabrics and textures of the 90's (velvet, satin, crochet and mesh that is) you might end up spending most of your days scrolling down the new arrivals and back in stock options of the moment. Most. Of. Your. Days.

Psssst! There's also a 20% discount for students in the US… #unidays

With currently up to 70% sale off sitewide, Go Jane is one of my most affordable online fashion discovery of 2016. Every since my very first order with them (a gorgeous pair of denim chunky heels) I have been completely obsessed with their weekly arrivals and their footwear shop, curating over 900 pair of pumps, boots, sandals, sneakers, flats, catering to everybody's taste and budget.

I like to think that I was quite early on discovering and integrating Lulu's best sellers into my wardrobe mostly because it caters so well to my ultra feminine style and aesthetic. For almost 10 years now, Lulu's has been my go-to web destination for all-things dresses and cute accessories. As for my favourite feature from their website: the 'Back in Stock' section where they bring back all of the styles that sold out too quickly, so you can never miss out on a great #outfitgoals ;)

featuring the Ribbon Open Back White Tee, $78

Pixie Market is my favourite online destination for statement tops and other original pieces. I've always loved a good stand-out outfit and Pixie's allows me to innovate and get extra creative with my fashion sense. They've got a wonderful collection of fun, fearless work-appropriate shirts and blouses that make it super easy to transition from the office to happy hour in a knack. Don't go unnoticed!

OSCARS 2016: THE RED CARPET

OSCARS 2016: THE RED CARPET
The 88th Academy Awards mark the last stop of our fashion recap for this Awards Season: Who is sad? I am.
Aside the usual lack of diversity among the nominations, the 2016 Oscars will make history for two reasons: firstly as the most important moment in Leonardo DiCaprio's life (as #TEB's cinema-lover Beatrice previously told you), and secondly for delivering a colorful selection of modern red carpet looks.
But did I fall in love with all of them? Nope.

Let's have a look:
FLORAL MASTERPIECE
Cate Blanchett (Carol) in Armani Privé / John Legend & wife Chrissy Teigen in Marchesa
I was expecting Cate Blanchett to wear a couture piece, however I was suprised to see her wearing something this romantic: showstopping tailoring and 3-D flowers' applications make this Armani Privé gown, one of the best looks of the night.
Moving to the lovely couple on the right, I have to repeat myself: Chrissy Teigen has the best maternity style ever. The design is nothing new, but Marchesa managed to adapt it to her new body: the expected sensuality of the design is casted away, to favor a look that oozes feminine beauty at its fines. I am in love witn this.

BOLD COLORS
Brie Larson (Room) in Gucci / Charlize Theron in Dior / Olivia Munn in Stella McCartney
A better title should have been "Saved by the color".
Brie Larson had an impressive awards season, thanks to her performance in Room, but also to her stylist. However I can not say that this Gucci is the best look she came up with or even Oscars-worthy material...but at the end of the day isn't she beautiful in that shade of blue?
Charlize Theron wore of course a design by Dior: from the waist down I am a fan, but the upper part is questionable. It feels like a bathing suit turned into a evening gown...but isn't she beautiful in that shade of red?
Olivia Munn is not really an A-list celebrity, however this Stella McCartney's orange gown makes her look the part.

INTERESTING SHAPES
Lady Gaga in Brandon Maxwell / Olivia Wilde in Valentino Haute Couture
Lady Gaga and Brandon Maxwell are a match made in heaven. This jumpsuit is everything: elegant, modern and luxurious; definitely the most unforgettable look of the night.
Olivia Wilde played the couture card in a revealing Valentino dress: I like it, maybe too much for the Oscars, but that chocker is throwing me off. #Unnecessary.

LUXURY by CHANEL
Julianne Moore in Chanel Couture / Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) in Chanel Couture
Two Chanel Couture designs in my best dressed list: am I dreaming?
Julianne Moore and new comer Daisy Ridley left me speachless at first sight: minimal styling, chic and luxurious embellishments...what else to say?

DAZZLING BLONDES
Margot Robbie in Tom Ford / Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn) in Calvin Klein / Naomi Watts in Armani Privè
Get your sunglasses on, it's getting shiny right here!
Margot Robbie took the Oscars theme kind of literally, by wearing a golden Tom Ford piece: I like the outfit, but I am not sure about the hair, maybe too casual for the occasion.
Brooklyn star Saoirse Ronan chose a sexy Calvin Klein dress for her debut on the Academy Awards' red carpet, however the styling makes her look older than her 20s.
Naomi Watts managed to over-accessorize her look one more time: if you have to wear Bulgari jewels by contract, why choosing such a dress?

YOU LOVE IT, I HATE IT #1
Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl /Ex-Machina) in Louis Vuitton
I like Alicia Vikander as an actress and her beauty is undeniable, but I can not get on board with this mess. Being Louis Vuitton ambassador she might had no voice in the selection of her outfits, so I forgive her, but it hurts me anyway to hate this look so much: she has been on #TEB's best dressed list for the entire awards season. #Pity.

YOU LOVE IT, I HATE IT #2
Kerry Washington (Scandal) in Atelier Versace / Jennifer Lawrence (Joy) in Dior
If you can see Kerry Washington's Versace look as a one-piece, then you will feel the boldness of the design. If you can not, than you would agree with me: what the hell is she wearing?
Jennifer Lawrence finally found the perfect hair color to enhance her natural beauty; I wish I could say the same about that lace-fest Dior gown.

PLAYING SAFE
Sophie Turner (Game of Thones) in Galvan for Opening Ceremony x Swarovski / Rooney Mara (Carol) in Givenchy / Emily Blunt (Sicario) in Prada
Sophie Turner looked divine: the ginger Game of Thrones star finally nailed the look I have always dreamed for her, although a darker color would have turned this look into a showstopper.
Rooney Mara in Givenchy is getting boring, especially if you keep wearing little variations of the same design over and over again.
Emily Blunt looked just like the lovely mum she will become: however the dress by itself is nothing special.

ELEGANT EMEBELLISHMENTS
Amy Poehler in Andrew Gn/ Jennifer Garner in Atelier Versace/ Sofia Vergara (Modern Family) in Marchesa
Nature-inspired embroidery on Amy Poehler gown, definitely an original choice for the Oscars, while both Jennifer Garner and Sofia Vergara went for something more classic but sparkling. Jennifer proved that Versace can still deliver good and classy gowns, and Sophia surpised me stepping out of her comfort zone, by wearing something different from her usual mermaid dresses.

LAME CHOICE #1
Priyanka Chopra (Quantico) in Zuhair Murad / Isla Fisher in Marchesa / Rachel McAdams (Spotlight) in August Getty Atelier
I love this section: how is it possible to go wrong having a styling team and the star-power to wear beautiful designer clothes? Watch and learn.
-Priyanka Chopra in a beautiful white gown...do you get the bridal vibe once again?
-Isla Fisher's gown is so plain that I do not want to wast time commenting.
- and Rachel McAdams is such a let down: this gown has no life or style. Why wearing it to the Oscars??

LAME CHOICE #2
Heidi Klum in Marchesa / Reese Witherspoon in Oscar de la Renta / Kate Winslet in Ralph Lauren
Everyone has his own tradition...mine is to find Heidi Klum among the least convincing looks on the red carpet: this time she has to blame a costumy and fluffy Marchesa design. Next.
Would you wear a dress that does nothing for your boobs? According to Reese Witherspoon, yes.
Last but not least Kate Winslet in what I call "Futuristic Garbage".

That's the Oscars everybody.

GRAMMY AWARDS 2016: is this the worst red carpet of the year?

GRAMMY AWARDS 2016: is this the worst red carpet of the year?
Yes.
I am not trying to sound mean, but that is a fact: the 58th Grammy awards wins #TEB's trophy as the most underwhelming red carpet of the year
Music on point, fashion...next.
Beyoncè skipped the red carpet, no Rihanna, no Nicki Minaj, no JLo, and I hate myself for saying this but no sign of the Kardashian/Jenners (however I would hide too after wearing those terrible creations at Yeezy season 3). All that is left is a bunch of generic (sometimes boring) outfits, except for Lady Gaga of course, I mean nothing is generinc when it comes to her.
Ready? Let's have a closer look to the Grammys red carpet:

ANGELIC VISIONS
Chrissy Teigen in Yousef Aljasmi; Beyoncè in Inbal Dror
GRAMMY AWARDS 2016 red carpet
We are borderline with the bridal territory, but we can not deny how effortless and classy these dresses look. Pregnancy is looking good on Chrissy Teigen, and fashion-wise I do love her glamorous maternity-style. As for my queen Beyoncè, I was expecting more from her: she has been wearing sheer dresses for too long, and it starting to feel boring, however I do like the tastefull design of this one.

SPLASH OF COLOR
Taylor Swift in Atelier Versace; Kacey Musgraves in Armani Privé Couture
GRAMMY AWARDS 2016 red carpet
Color-blocking looks good on ex-country star Taylor Swift, even if I have problems to call this Versace number a dress, I mean doesn't it look like a two-pieces swimsuit witha fancy sarong? Anyway this new shorter (Anna Wintour-inspired) hair-do sealed the deal, so gets my nulla-osta.
The actual country princess Kacey Musgraves choose something more elegant and nailed it: this Armani PrivĂ© Couture dress from the Fall 2015 collection looked flawless on her.

BOWIE TRIBUTES
Zendaya in Dsquared2; Lady Gaga in custom Marc Jacobs
GRAMMY AWARDS 2016 red carpet
Tributes are the highest form of respect to someone that has passed away: this year we have lost many big artists, among which the legendary David Bowie.
Lady Gaga had the honor to perform a tribute to the singer at the awards show, and given her personality and character it make sense to see her bringing her tribute also on the red carpet. If you don't stare at the shoes to much, it works, believe me.
As for Zendaya, I can not really decide whether I like the execution of the tribute or not: she took the androginus path, sporting Bowie's famous Ziggy Stardust mullet and wearing a black suit by DSquared2. This is another unexpected yet bold choice made by the young star and her stylist, that unfortunately failed to convince me. A++ for the effort.

IN CHARACTER
Janelle Monae; Florence Welch in Gucci
GRAMMY AWARDS 2016 red carpet
It's costumy, but I love it...on Janelle Monae: it's Grammys night at the end of the day, what did you expect?
Moving to Florence Welch..., well Gucci is on a roll this year: this is another A-list celebrity wearing an Alessandro Michele's design without looking like a cartoon. Good job.

DIVAS
Jazmine Sullivan in Micheal Costello; Adele in Givenchy
GRAMMY AWARDS 2016 red carpet
I could listen to their voices for days, but who wins the fashion game? Personally I love Jazmine Sullivan choice better: the RnB diva wore a feminine yet elegant piece by Michael Costello, which fits her like a glove. Adele went classy in Givenchy all night, however the ruby red piece she wore on stage totally outshined this black number on the red carpet.

(OLD) LADY LIKE
Demi Lovato in Norisol Ferrari; Megan Trainor in Micheal Costello
GRAMMY AWARDS 2016 red carpet
Take to beautiful young rising stars in their 20s...and dress them like they were 40. Pardon 35.

SEXY SEXY SEXY
Bella Hadid in Alexandre Vauthier Couture; Ciara in Alexandre Vauthier; Alessandra Ambrosio in Versace
GRAMMY AWARDS 2016 red carpet
Plunging neklines, slits, cut-outs, dark smokey eyes and lots of skin: girls you are beautiful, but I am officially bored. It is not even funny anymore. "Less is more"they say, but I do not belive they were referring to the amount of fabric...

1 SINGLE FLAW
Selena Gomez in Calvin Klein; Ariana Grande in Romona Keveza; Lianne La Havas in Vivienne Westwood
GRAMMY AWARDS 2016 red carpet
Everything was on point except for...
-Selena Gomez hair and make up. She is beautiful but she reminds me of JLo..and not in her 20s.
-Ariana Grande make up and hair: imagine a low ponytail and a softer make up. Is it better?
-Lianne La Havas shoes: too heavy for me.

WORST
Medison Bier; Wiz Kalifa in Thom Browne; Tove Lo
GRAMMY AWARDS 2016 red carpet
The ultimate cheap-looking party dress, an embellished shrunken three-piece with tails and a beautiful lace nightmare. Impressive.

Sorry, I need to heal my eyes: maybe it's better to look back at the BAFTA red carpet.

SAG AWARDS 2016: The Red Carpet

The SAG Awards are the second key moment of this awards season, and style-wise a warm-up between the Globes and the Oscars. As the winners of the night rehearse their speeches for their big time at the Oscars, let's have a look at the best (and worst) fashion moments of the night:

STAR OF THE SHOW
Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl/Ex-Machina) in Louis Vuitton
Bow down to the most beautiful Louis Vuitton dress I have ever seen on a red carpet: simple in the design and dazzling in the details. Swedish actress Alicia Vikander definitely looked like the star she will become. Best look of the night.

BREATH-TAKING
Viola Davis (How To Get Away With Murder) in Zac Posen_Brie Larson (Room) in Atelier Versace Couture
As I always say, "you can never go wrong with a Zac Posen's design" and Viola Devis is another proof of that: the color of the dress is amazing on her skin, the feminine shape on the gown enhanced her figure and that smile..well that was the cherry on top! Actress of the year Brie Larson got the couture treatment directly from Atelier Versace, as she wore a couture piece straight from the house's spring 2016 couture collection. The dress proved to have "red carpet" potential on the runway, and I am glad to see how beautiful it looks on Brie. My only side note has to be the shoes: WTF???

SISTERLY LOVE
Kate Mara in Valentino_Rooney Mara in Valentino
The Mara sisters had a Valentino moment on the red carpet. Kate Mara wore a piece from the spring summer 2016 collection, while Rooney Mara opted for a couture piece from the fall winter collection. Same designer, different interpretations: I have to say that Rooney looked regal (even if I wanted to see some major jewellery piece with that gown), while Kate definitely brought some sensuality to her dress.

SHOCKING PINK
Emilia Clarke (Game Of Thrones) in Dior_Sofia Vergara (Modern Family) in Vera Wang
Only the brave. Emilia Clarke wore the second decent Dior design of this year awards season, while Sofia Vergara (as always) favored a mermaid-like dress: the designs were not original, but the color sealed the deal.

THE MICHAEL'S ANGELS
Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn) in Michael Kors_Queen Latifah (Bessie) in Michael Costello
Ok, let's forget the bad title-joke. But I have to admit that Michael Kors and Michael Costello gifted Saoirse Ronan and Queen Latifah with two beautiful elegant and timeless dresses. In both cases the styling was kept to the minimum, I could not agree more.

EYE-CATCHING TOPS
Sarah Paulson (ASH: Hotel) in Armani Privé couture_Kristen Wiig (The Martian) in Roland Mouret
Couture make over also for Sarah Paulson, who turned to Armani to find the perfect dress for the evening. Usually I am not a fan of her on the red carpet, but this time I love the injection of color. Kristen Wiig brought back my love for jumpsuits, wearing a modern number for Roland Mouret. I would wear it in a heart-beat.

YOUNG HOLLYWOOD
Maise Williams (Game Of Thrones) in Ermanno Scervino_Sophie Turner (Game Of Thrones) in Carolina Herrera
This time I am not really impressed by the fashion choices of the two British stars: they looked ready for prom rather than for the red carpet. Maisie Williams wore an Ermanno Scervino's dress, that in my opinion looked too heavy for her petit frame; Sophie Turner was lovely in Carolina Herrera, but she was not memorable. I am a "dress to impress" kind of person, so this is miss for me.

Ariel Winter (Modern Family) in Romona Keveza_Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men) in Erdem_Sarah Hyland (Modern Family) in J Mendel
Keeping up with the young hollywood section we have Ariel Winter in a bombshell attire by Romona Keveza, Kiernan Shipka in a youthful and elegant Erdem design, and Sarah Hyland in a blue J Mendel. Kiernan looked the best, as it was easy to find some flaws in both Ariel and Sarah's styling choises: Ariel's frosty rose lipstick and Sarah's poor hair style were definitely a total let down.

SPARKLING COUTURE
Julianne Moore in Givenchy Couture_Nicole Kidman in Gucci
This is a hard one: two Hollywood royalties wearing the designs from two major fashion houses...and the result is not that good. Julianne Moore's lime green Givenchy dress was doing nothing for her body; however the color was beautiful on her. As for Nicole Kidman...well, that Gucci number was simply not made for her. Let's start by saying that this is a tricky dress: I could see a younger celebrity rocking it and I can imagine a model wearing it for an editorial, but in my opinion this gown has no red carpet potential, and Nicole dear, that styling is not helping either.

CLASSIC ALLURE
Anna Faris (Mom) in Naeem Khan_Rachel McAdams (Spotlight) in Elie Saab_Marisa Tomei (Empire) in Zuhair Murad couture
I see 3 beautiful dresses that needed a bit more of drama in the styling.
A red pout for Anna Faris and that gorgeous red Naeem Khan gown; a sleek hairstyle and a darker eyeshadow to upgrade Rachel McAdams in Elie Saab. Marisa Tomei disappointed me in the shoe-department and she definitely needed to pay more attention to her hairstyle, if she wanted to match that lovely teal Zuhair Murad.

NOT CONVINCING
Priyanka Chopra (Quantico) in Monique Lhuillier_Laverne Cox (Orange is the New Black) in Prabal Gurung_Eva Longoria (Telenovela) in Julien MacDonald
What do we have here? A bridal gown, a terrible pose and a hot mess. Wow, three beautiful ladies that did not manage to stand out in the crowd: Priyanka Chopra's Monique Lhuillier was a camouflage bridal gown; Laverne Cox was actually wearing a nice Prabal Gurung, but she killed off all the magic with that questionable pose; Eva Longoria  basically wore a dress that was meant for a taller person, and despite the fitting it is still very clear. BTW that hair style is a NO.

TOO MUCH FABRIC
Christina Hendricks (Mad Men) in Christian Siriano_Sola Bamis (Mad Men) in Lola Wusu
Usually I appreciate a bit of drama on the red carpet, but not in this case. One of the basic rules in fashion is to make sure that your client looks smoking hot in your design, and I dare you all to say that Christian Siriano or Lola Wusu accomplished that request. Sola Bamis should fire her stylist, while Christina Hendricks could have upgraded her dress with a pair of scissors: that piece of fabric on the shoulder was pointless. Chop it off next time!

SKIN SKIN SKIN
Susan Sarandon in Max Mara_Eva Amurri in Gabriela Cadena_Kaley Cuoco (The Big Bang Theory) in Romona Keveza
Where should I begin? Susan Sarandon should have worn a white corset under that Max Mara tuxedo, and those pants needed to reach the floor. I do not have much to say about the Gabriela Cadena dress that Eva Amurri wore, if not "burn it". Kaley Cuoco dress could have been a good choice for the Grammys, but that sheer panel that does not match her skin-tone is a let down. Next.
