SAG AWARDS 2016: The Red Carpet

The SAG Awards are the second key moment of this awards season, and style-wise a warm-up between the Globes and the Oscars. As the winners of the night rehearse their speeches for their big time at the Oscars, let's have a look at the best (and worst) fashion moments of the night:

STAR OF THE SHOW
Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl/Ex-Machina) in Louis Vuitton
Bow down to the most beautiful Louis Vuitton dress I have ever seen on a red carpet: simple in the design and dazzling in the details. Swedish actress Alicia Vikander definitely looked like the star she will become. Best look of the night.

BREATH-TAKING
Viola Davis (How To Get Away With Murder) in Zac Posen_Brie Larson (Room) in Atelier Versace Couture
As I always say, "you can never go wrong with a Zac Posen's design" and Viola Devis is another proof of that: the color of the dress is amazing on her skin, the feminine shape on the gown enhanced her figure and that smile..well that was the cherry on top! Actress of the year Brie Larson got the couture treatment directly from Atelier Versace, as she wore a couture piece straight from the house's spring 2016 couture collection. The dress proved to have "red carpet" potential on the runway, and I am glad to see how beautiful it looks on Brie. My only side note has to be the shoes: WTF???

SISTERLY LOVE
Kate Mara in Valentino_Rooney Mara in Valentino
The Mara sisters had a Valentino moment on the red carpet. Kate Mara wore a piece from the spring summer 2016 collection, while Rooney Mara opted for a couture piece from the fall winter collection. Same designer, different interpretations: I have to say that Rooney looked regal (even if I wanted to see some major jewellery piece with that gown), while Kate definitely brought some sensuality to her dress.

SHOCKING PINK
Emilia Clarke (Game Of Thrones) in Dior_Sofia Vergara (Modern Family) in Vera Wang
Only the brave. Emilia Clarke wore the second decent Dior design of this year awards season, while Sofia Vergara (as always) favored a mermaid-like dress: the designs were not original, but the color sealed the deal.

THE MICHAEL'S ANGELS
Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn) in Michael Kors_Queen Latifah (Bessie) in Michael Costello
Ok, let's forget the bad title-joke. But I have to admit that Michael Kors and Michael Costello gifted Saoirse Ronan and Queen Latifah with two beautiful elegant and timeless dresses. In both cases the styling was kept to the minimum, I could not agree more.

EYE-CATCHING TOPS
Sarah Paulson (ASH: Hotel) in Armani Privé couture_Kristen Wiig (The Martian) in Roland Mouret
Couture make over also for Sarah Paulson, who turned to Armani to find the perfect dress for the evening. Usually I am not a fan of her on the red carpet, but this time I love the injection of color. Kristen Wiig brought back my love for jumpsuits, wearing a modern number for Roland Mouret. I would wear it in a heart-beat.

YOUNG HOLLYWOOD
Maise Williams (Game Of Thrones) in Ermanno Scervino_Sophie Turner (Game Of Thrones) in Carolina Herrera
This time I am not really impressed by the fashion choices of the two British stars: they looked ready for prom rather than for the red carpet. Maisie Williams wore an Ermanno Scervino's dress, that in my opinion looked too heavy for her petit frame; Sophie Turner was lovely in Carolina Herrera, but she was not memorable. I am a "dress to impress" kind of person, so this is miss for me.

Ariel Winter (Modern Family) in Romona Keveza_Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men) in Erdem_Sarah Hyland (Modern Family) in J Mendel
Keeping up with the young hollywood section we have Ariel Winter in a bombshell attire by Romona Keveza, Kiernan Shipka in a youthful and elegant Erdem design, and Sarah Hyland in a blue J Mendel. Kiernan looked the best, as it was easy to find some flaws in both Ariel and Sarah's styling choises: Ariel's frosty rose lipstick and Sarah's poor hair style were definitely a total let down.

SPARKLING COUTURE
Julianne Moore in Givenchy Couture_Nicole Kidman in Gucci
This is a hard one: two Hollywood royalties wearing the designs from two major fashion houses...and the result is not that good. Julianne Moore's lime green Givenchy dress was doing nothing for her body; however the color was beautiful on her. As for Nicole Kidman...well, that Gucci number was simply not made for her. Let's start by saying that this is a tricky dress: I could see a younger celebrity rocking it and I can imagine a model wearing it for an editorial, but in my opinion this gown has no red carpet potential, and Nicole dear, that styling is not helping either.

CLASSIC ALLURE
Anna Faris (Mom) in Naeem Khan_Rachel McAdams (Spotlight) in Elie Saab_Marisa Tomei (Empire) in Zuhair Murad couture
I see 3 beautiful dresses that needed a bit more of drama in the styling.
A red pout for Anna Faris and that gorgeous red Naeem Khan gown; a sleek hairstyle and a darker eyeshadow to upgrade Rachel McAdams in Elie Saab. Marisa Tomei disappointed me in the shoe-department and she definitely needed to pay more attention to her hairstyle, if she wanted to match that lovely teal Zuhair Murad.

NOT CONVINCING
Priyanka Chopra (Quantico) in Monique Lhuillier_Laverne Cox (Orange is the New Black) in Prabal Gurung_Eva Longoria (Telenovela) in Julien MacDonald
What do we have here? A bridal gown, a terrible pose and a hot mess. Wow, three beautiful ladies that did not manage to stand out in the crowd: Priyanka Chopra's Monique Lhuillier was a camouflage bridal gown; Laverne Cox was actually wearing a nice Prabal Gurung, but she killed off all the magic with that questionable pose; Eva Longoria  basically wore a dress that was meant for a taller person, and despite the fitting it is still very clear. BTW that hair style is a NO.

TOO MUCH FABRIC
Christina Hendricks (Mad Men) in Christian Siriano_Sola Bamis (Mad Men) in Lola Wusu
Usually I appreciate a bit of drama on the red carpet, but not in this case. One of the basic rules in fashion is to make sure that your client looks smoking hot in your design, and I dare you all to say that Christian Siriano or Lola Wusu accomplished that request. Sola Bamis should fire her stylist, while Christina Hendricks could have upgraded her dress with a pair of scissors: that piece of fabric on the shoulder was pointless. Chop it off next time!

SKIN SKIN SKIN
Susan Sarandon in Max Mara_Eva Amurri in Gabriela Cadena_Kaley Cuoco (The Big Bang Theory) in Romona Keveza
Where should I begin? Susan Sarandon should have worn a white corset under that Max Mara tuxedo, and those pants needed to reach the floor. I do not have much to say about the Gabriela Cadena dress that Eva Amurri wore, if not "burn it". Kaley Cuoco dress could have been a good choice for the Grammys, but that sheer panel that does not match her skin-tone is a let down. Next.

10 FALL FASHION OUTFITS THAT’LL MAKE YOU TURN HEADS

When the leaves start to change and that cool breeze hits, it’s pretty apparent that the familiar autumn feeling has finally arrived.
Aside from the changing weather, there’s nothing better in the fall than the fashion. This is the best time of year to pull out those comfortable sweaters, oversized jackets and rich autumnal colors.
Even as a young professional you can wear nice sweaters to the office.
If you’re currently lacking fashion inspiration for the season, keep reading to find out how you can easily kill the fashion game with these 10 timeless fall fashion outfits.

ORANGE STREET STYLE
One of the very first fall fashion outfits you’ll want to recreate is the dark orange bomber and grey outfit combination. This ensemble is cool, easy to wear and appropriate for casual occasions.
Wearing grey on grey is a unique style a lot of people don’t think to pull off. The key to wearing this getup, is to break it up with a colorful jacket, such as the dark orange one above.
Both colors are extremely appropriate for autumn, but are paired together in an unexpected way.
This look is also a nice twist on the traditional black & white street style we are used to seeing. It can even be used as an easy way to transition your wardrobe for the fall.
Check out where you can find the best deals on street style attire.

WARMTH WITH STYLE
The black on black jeans and turtleneck combination is a classic fall fashion attire.
What truly makes this outfit unique however, is the use of the turtleneck instead of a traditional black t-shirt, as well as the color combination.
The contrast of the black outfit with the camel coat marry seamlessly, as the colors compliment each other this time of year.
The upturned collar and style of the jacket against the turtleneck also add a little bit more edge to the look.
Additionally, the suede jacket does a great job of highlighting one’s figure and elongating the neck. This is truly a muted way to look high fashion, timeless and elegant.

EDGY FOR FALL
This outfit is a go-to if you’re interested in wearing a fully edgy look. This black on black outfit will be guaranteed to turn people’s heads, as the combination of the beret, Dr. Martin’s and cross-body bag make a jeans and t-shirt outfit, look offbeat.
The lose appearance of the leather / suede jacket also gives the overall attire a casual, nonchalant feel.
That jacket definitely completes the look and is what brings this edgy outfit to the next level.
Check out which accessories every guy needs in his closet to pull an outfit together.

SUIT UP WITH CLASS
If you’re one to wear a suit everyday, make sure to rock a beautifully rich, navy blue one for the fall. This color is not only appropriate for this time of year, but it flatters a lot of men’s skin tones, is extremely modern and pops nicely against a white dress shirt.
Pair the whole look with the best suit accessories, such as silver tie clip, and you’ll look sharper than anyone at your office.
You can also style this stunt suit with a chunky metal watch and a pair of killer sunglasses (the Ray Ban Clubmaster are very nice on most men).

COOL AND CASUAL
When the colder seasons roll around, most of us enjoy staying in, getting comfortable and feeling cozy at home. This white t-shirt and light wash denim outfit is perfect for just that.
The combination is such a classic outfit, that it’ll keep you feeling comfortable and looking trendy at the same time. You’ll totally be killing fall fashion at home in this ensemble.
By the way, I created a great an easy guide to help you never spend hundreds to look expensive again. Here it is: How to Look Expensive.

SMART CASUAL IS KEY
It’s no secret smart casual is my personal favourite style on men. It’s elegant, classic and truly a put-together look. You can rock business casual this fall by switching out your summer linen blazer, for a deep purple, checkered suit jacket instead.
This blazer paired with beige pants and camel leather loafers is an awesome color contrast for autumn, that’ll keep you looking classy all season long.

SWEATER AND A BLAZER
Much like the previous look, this is also a smart casual outfit as well. This attire is a great transitional one from the summertime.
Despite beige and white being summer colors, you can get away with this outfit in the autumn simply by switching out your polo, for a crew neck sweater. This way, you can easily pull-off this summer inspired look in the fall too.
Match the look with an elegant pair of boots, and you are set to kill fall fashion.

EDGY AND BUSINESS CASUAL COLLIDE
What I love about this outfit is how it merges two styles together: business casual and edgy. This creates an unexpectedly unique look.
The base of the outfit is quite contemporary with the t-shirt and trousers combination. However, the addition of the leather jacket and dress shoes make the look a little more rough.
This style is great if you like switching things up and are experimenting with your clothing.
Check out how you can merge street style and class.

COMFORTABLE AND CHIC
If you want a simple, yet appropriate fall look, then this is the perfect outfit for you. It’s classic, elegant and suitable for any gentlemen looking to impress this season.
Although the combination of the sweater and the chino pants is predictable and very common, the color pairing is what will make you stand out of the crowd.
You can’t deny the dark orange knit merges well with the beige trousers. Not to mention, it’s a color combination a lot of people don’t think of trying out. You can be sure to kill fall fashion in this safe, yet colorful attire.

FORMAL WEAR
Last but certainly not least, formal wear. I couldn’t do a fall fashion outfits inspiration article without including a tux.
Although they are worn all year long, they are especially appropriate in the fall with all the holiday parties coming up.
A tux is the epitome of elegance and will definitely make you look amazing for any black tie event.
Check out this article on how you can complete your tux and look expensive.

3 WAYS, 3 DAYS

A blazer is a great fill-in for any occasion and every man has at least one in his wardrobe. They are perfect for situations in which a suit is too formal and you want to have a little sprinkling of your personality and individuality.

You all know how much I adore colours and fortunately this James Harper blazer has arrived just in time for Spring/Summer with its vibrant colour. The blazer is the perfect transitional wardrobe piece moving seasons from Winter to Spring. It is time to hang up those winter coats, wave goodbye to winter and don a blazer in a bright colour. This colour is sure to catch more than a few eyes on the streets, and it’s flattering shape works with just about anything I can throw at it.

I am super excited about this colourful blazer, and it’s refreshing style that within 3 days, I wore it 3 different ways! It is perfect for summer with its slim lapel, double vents and the spot print lining is super fun when unbuttoned. Men like to purchase pieces that ensure versatility and value for money and this blazer works just as well outside the office as it does inside.

Day 1 – Blazer and Jeans

This great blazer and a humble pair of jeans created a great combination. The cut of the bright coloured blazer paired with the casual style of jeans created a sharp and chic yet relaxed vibe. Obviously the simplest of my 3 days, 3 ways, this look is totally easy for any man to achieve. By pairing the blazer with a plain shirt you will make the look more casual (remember to unbutton your top button) and your trusty white canvas kicks will make this a failsafe style that you can repeatedly rely on. If you don’t feel like being neither casual or dressy but quite neutral , opt for a polo shirt. It is another failsafe item that every gent has in their wardrobe. The great thing about this look is it is so versatile and can take you from afternoon meetings to drinks and spontaneous dancing with friends. Throw on this blazer during the day and it will keep you looking sharp through to when happy hour starts and beyond.

Day 2- Blazer Short Combo

On day 2 the sun begun to poke out of the clouds and I paired the blazer with a pair of shorts, also by James Harper, a white tee and some simple white canvas shoes, perfect look for sunnie afternoons.I opted to have the koi fish embroidery added to the jacket to customise it and make it a little special. The embroidery pattern is custom made (lovely touch) and hand stitched to the blazer. Embroidery has popped up everywhere thanks to the big fashion houses embracing embellishments and embroidery. I adore it’s unique eclectic vibe and it is wonderful to see menswear is getting in on the trend. Obviously you do not need to opt for the embroidery and the great thing is if you do, you can always remove it so you will have the blazer for seasons to come.

Day 3- Blazer for work
By day 3 I was totally mad for this blazer! The great thing about a statement blazer is you really do not need to buy a whole new wardrobe to match it. Dress to impress at the office by combining the blazer with pieces in your existing corporate wardrobe. You will be surprised how this great colour matches what you gents would already have in your wardrobe, such as navy’s and grey. The trick is to make a statement without being too over-the-top and keeping your ensemble work-friendly. When in doubt start with a light or dark base and work from there to create outfit harmony. To create a polished look for work I combined the blazer with a plain shirt with minimal details and pair of suit pants, topping it off with a pocket square. The pocket square helps break up the solidity of the blazer. If you do not know how to wear a pocket square, please revert to WHAT’S IN YOUR POCKET.

Stand out in the crowd by styling the blazer with a pair of shorts, a navy shirt and some white kicks. Totally on-point for afternoons out with friends. You could always combine them with some brown suede shoes that would convert this to a classic look for a more formal occasion, such as the polo, or nine-to-five.

My friends at James Harper have kindly offered you 10% off at their online store by using the code GFASH10.

Whether you need a blazer for work or just a fancy occasion, I hope I have inspired you to think outside the grey, navy or black box.
