WHAT: Versace Spring/Summer 2018. The Versace "Tribute" Collection. It has been 20 years since Gianni Versace's death and his sister, Donatella, who took the realm as Creative Director for the iconic Italian fashion house, decided to pay an homage to her brother. INSPIRATION: According to the New York Times: Donatella went into the archives: a 10,760-square-foot storage facility in Novara, Italy, a town west of Milan, which houses 13,000 pieces by Mr. Versace. And she came out with a collection that would be a celebration of 12 classic prints her brother created between 1991 and 1997, including the “Warhol” (a primary-colored riot of Marilyn and James Dean portraits), the animalière (leopard) and the baroque (ornate gold squiggles). And while she remade a few pieces in their entirety, most she decided to reclaim via her own specifications: more day wear, sharper shoulders, fewer slits. What would her brother say about the result? Ms. Versace laughed. “Bitch!” Then she added, “No, he’d love it.”

RUNWAY REPORT.....Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week: Chanel Couture Fall 2017

WHAT: Chanel Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2017. 83-year-old Karl Lagerfeld had a 46-ton Eiffel Tower recreated inside the Grand Palais to highlight his "Tribute to Paris" Chanel Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2017/2018 show.

The 35-meter (125 feet) replica of the iconic Parisian monument, greeted guests, as it seemed to go beyond the Grand Palais' famed glass ceiling, as man-made steam created the illusion of clouds up above. It took workmen six weeks to make, copying beam for beam the columns and metal made by Gustave Eiffel for the 1889 Universal Exhibition.

INSPIRATION: The Belle Epoque was the starting point for inspiration, specifically the period which followed the building of the Eiffel Tower. Lagerfeld also said he was inspired by a "revived Parisian woman" with shapes, silhouettes and cuts that combined essences of the late 1880's-to-early 1900's, as well as 60's and contemporary looks.

SEEN ON THE RUNWAY: Curved oversized sloping shoulders; leg-o-mutton arms showed overt wink-and-a-nod to the pre-World War I fashion styles. The Chanel canotier hat which Coco wore during that same period was shown with just about every outfit. Besides this, many 1960's shapes and details were present such as mini dresses, retro batteau collars, knee-high boots and fun bows. As usual at Chanel Haute Couture, exquisitely-made tweeds highlighted this Fall/Winter collection. Leather collars, multi layered pailletes and feathers made appearances here and there. The feathers mimicking a look of fur trim.

RUNWAY REPORT.....Christian Dior Resort 2018: Photos + Runway Video!

WHAT: Christian Dior Resort 2018. This was Maria Grazia Chiuri's first Resort Collection for the French fashion house and it took place yesterday, not in Paris, but...Calabasas! The Resort Collections have become a season for travel. Not just in the clothing being presented, but for the actual shows. Runway Shows are being staged not only in Paris and Milan, but also in Kyoto Japan and for Dior, The Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve in Calabasas, California. Calabasas is now known as the home for celebrities such as the Kardashian Clan, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Lopez, Drake and Britney Spears...to name just a few. But last night Dior brought a whole different list of celebrities including Rihanna, Charlize Theron, Solange Knowles and Miranda Kerr to the outskirts of Los Angeles.

Dior Sauvage: Dior Resort 2018--Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Reserve, Calabasas California

INSPIRATION: Dior's Artistic Director, Maria Grazia Chiuri admitted that the location was chosen prior to her arriving at the company, but that didn't stop her from finding inspiration in the location and from the Dior archives. Chiuri drew inspiration from the house founder’s Lascaux collection of 1951, inspired by
the ancient cave paintings discovered in southwestern France a decade
earlier.

SEEN ON THE RUNWAY: Coachella, Hippie-chick-meets-Spaghetti Western. Western hats, furs, bustier dresses, A-line dresses, nipped-in waists, ponchos-as-skirts, fringe, Navajo/New Mexico influences, updated Bar Jackets.
