Building A Capsule Wardrobe: Pants and Shorts

Building A Capsule Wardrobe: Pants and Shorts

 photo tumblr_mvdir5E6cW1qkx3nqo1_1280_zps2402408b.jpg

Let's get it straight, pants, are the greatest freedom. Pioneering for women to wear pants was one of the greatest things women like Gabrielle Chanel ever did. Now, I love dresses, skirts and feeling feminine, but I like to do this with a touch of manliness. The juxtaposition between male/ female is the perfect spot to reside in for me. Comfort, is a major factor for me when it comes to getting dressed, women who kill themselves to fit into something uncomfortable for days on end make me frustrated. A lot of primping and product application can be fun, but everyday it is just tiring. I am not a fan of lots of hairspray, product, etc. I do love to dress up and feel beautiful, but I do not like to sacrifice my sanity and comfort to achieve this. In the world of fashion, I often feel perplexed watching what I dub as 'overdressed' women. Posing in platform neon heels, a bikini and bangles for photos is confusing. Wearing heels on grass, is confusing. If you are going to an event like the races, or a picnic, please do not wear heels! I feel at odds with myself the second I step on to unsturdy ground in a heel- even if this is for a moment. I find flatform shoes confusing, they are just so unattractive! The list goes on, but at the end of the day, to each their own.

I wear jeans, a lot. For a while, when I had gone through a super girly phase, jeans really bothered me. I hated seeing them on everybody- all looking the same. The thing is though, it is comfortable, often warmer, and you CAN personalize your style even if you are simply 'in jeans'. These days they are also widely worn in dressier circumstances, with a good pump heel, or ankle boot they can elongate the legs and look amazing. Find a good brand and stick to it. For me I love Rag and Bone, J-Brand (they are worth the $$ because the fit it is incredible), Sass and Bide, Dr.Denim and One Teaspoon.
I do prefer to wear trousers or jeans as an everyday thing- rather than when going out for dinner, to a show or the like. For occasional wear I will switch back to a skirt or dress. Don't underestimate how valuable a well tailored black trouser can be, they will come in handy, are great for the office or official business and work in summer or winter. I ensure I have a matching black blazer, just in case I want to suit up.

For years I thought shorts were for men in summer, for Mickey Mouse and for children. I didn't see that they had much of a place in a womens wardrobe. It took me a while to see how I could feel like they were appropriate and found a place in my own day-to-day. Now I wear them all summer, and consider them to be a staple- again, in my day-to day, I leave shorter shorts out of the office and prefer not to wear them out to an event or dinner. They certainly can be worn in dressier ways- when tailored correctly, I feel they can look rather nice. The trick is to get the proportions right. A short short with an exposing cami top feels to me like I am showing too much skin. A cami top and longer shorts, is a little better, but best suited to culottes. Shorter shorts I feel team up best with a shirt or tee which has full or 3/4 length sleeves. When it comes to buying denim shorts I tend to go up one or two sizes, so they are looser around the thigh area. It is more flattering that way, and gives you plenty of room to move. I don't mind the torn hems, as long as the overall short covers your butt (ensure you bend down when you try them on- just to check you actually can without exposing cheek!) and I tend to stay away from embellishment, at least when building the essential capsule wardrobe.

Here is the breakdown of my 'Must Have Pants and Shorts For Any Woman':
- 1x Dark Denim jeans (skinny, fitted or flared- to suit your own body shape best)
- 1x Blue, Khaki, Bone, White or Oxblood coloured jean (again to suit your own body shape)
- 1x Torn 'Boyfriend' jean (I love the One Teaspoon Awesome Baggies, buy in a size or two larger)
- 1x Black linen long shorts- around knee length, slightly wide in the leg
- 1x Black tailored dress trousers for occasional wear and office wear
- 1x Black jeans (again, in a cut to suit your body shape)
- 1x Light Grey suit-shorts, can be short or longer, wear with an elegant flat or kitten heel for a dressier look
- 1x light washed denim or black denim cut off shorts (long enough to house your butt and worn tastefully!)
- 1x White leather shorts (or black- you would wear both, but start with one)
- 1x Black Leather Shorts (I wear mine too much!)
- 1x Culottes (not pictured) midi length, wear with cropped tops or blouses

MSFW x WITTNER

Junk Call Of The Wild dress* / Chanell heels by Faith (via ASOS) / Like A Harte Rose Clip (coming soon) / Colette bag

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to attend Wittner’s Melbourne Spring Fashion Week show and the exclusive unveiling of their ‘Everything White’ collection afterwards, making for quite an interesting night. For those of you unaware of the brand: Wittner is a footwear retailer in Australia with almost 70 stores nationwide and who celebrated their 100th anniversary just last year!

Now, the Wittner team clearly know how to stand out because their show was the most energetic I've seen - their models performing full-on dance routines in the new collection and all in high heels, mind you. I couldn't help but smile throughout because it was nice to see something different to the typical walk-down-the-catwalk-and-back type of show.

If you attended you would know that we were met with a lovely array of black and white, with great tans, nudes and metallics thrown in. The pointed-toe stilettos were a nice refresher to have in between models and the silver foiled and metallic beauties brought out some disco vibes. Personally open-toed-ankle-boots aren’t my cup of tea, but I am a woman who likes a good thick ankle strap and chunky heel, so my shoe needs were pleasantly met as Wittner did plenty of those. Also hence why I made sure to snap the white pair above, which not only had mesh incorporated into it but also a metallic heel – yes please??

The after party was set at their Collins Street store where we had refreshments and watched the collection video playing in the shop window out on the street before getting to wander around and see the collection first hand. It was a great start to the week and I’d like to thank Michael Wittner, the family and everyone associated for inviting me along to experience this lovely evening.

On a side note: It's 100% harder to photograph shoes as everyone’s moving so fast, but between you and me, Levi’s also used Wittner's new collection for most of their female models (that I’m aware of) in their show, so you'll get to see the more of the collection when I put that post up next week :-)

Marc Jacobs, The brain behind the banned ad campaigns

Marc Jacobs the ORIGINATOR behind the banned suicide-themed fashion campaigns...

My name is Angel Barta. I am fashion designer.
                                                                                                                                 Magyarul a cikk katt ide
I already wrote that Marc Jacobs has a big power at many brands such as Miu Miu, Prada, Nina Ricci, Ungaro, Balenciaga, thank to his supporter and colleague Katie Grand. He designs not just for Louis Vuitton. He wants to manipulate the whole fashion world. He's been stealing my designs and copying my photos for 5 years meanwhile keeps me in psychological torture. Read my story with him here.
Marc Jacobs makes his perverse desire for young women stand out in his ad campaigns. Here is one example the Daisy perfume ad with Daisy Lowe back in 2008.
She was only 18 years old on the photo.

In the Winter 2011 Miu Miu Campaign you can see what Marc Jacobs' real goal is with the soul terror that he does with me.
In the campaign photos you see a sad, almost crying, young lonely girl sitting on a railway track.
The campaign has been banned in the UK. The ASA said in its ruling: "Because the ad showed Hailee Steinfeld in a potentially hazardous situation sitting on a railway track, we concluded the ad was irresponsible and in breach of the Code in showing a child in a hazardous or dangerous situation."

In the campaign you see the young actress called, Hailee Steinfeld. Marc Jacobs really supports her, she is invited to his fashion shows, they are even together at the party, she mostly wears the designs of MJ, Miu Miu, Prada. Of Course Katie Grand worked at the photoshooting, like usual.

The girls of Marc Jacobs all gathered at his last fashion show for Louis Vuitton in 2013 October.

Sofia Coppola, Marc's main supporter.
Elle Fanning, Dakota Fanning, Hailee.. Marc Jacobs controls and supports all of them. No wonder, they came from all the way America to Paris only to see his show.

Another photo shoot around suicide

Authors who ended their own live featured in the editorial such as Virginia Woolf, clutching a boulder to drown herself in the river. By the way Marc Jacobs has a " George and Martha" tattoo from the movie " WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOLF". It's his favorite movie. Jacobs even featured in the "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf' Editorial in 2011 March.
“I’ve seen the movie about 100 times. I have George and Martha tattooed on my arm.” —said Marc Jacobs for Harper's Bazaar. via limitmagazine

You also see on the photos: Sanmao, eyes wide open, PRADA stockings round her neck. They are all women, though there have been famous male writers who have committed suicide.
Marc Jacobs and Winona Ryder featured at Harper's Bazaar " Who's afraid of Virginia Wolf" editorial in 2011 March.
The photographer of the Vice editorial was Annabel Mehran, who is the editor-at-large of Olivier Zahm's Purple Magazine. This editorial was the idea of Marc Jacobs. Another perverse fantasy of his.

Here is a personal photo taken by Olivier Zahm at Marc Jacobs' house: "  An improvised cabaret with Marc Jacobs, Ali Madhavi and Kate Moss, Paris" Marc Jacobs and Olivier Zahm are close friends. They spend a lot of time together. So it was easy for Jacobs to get the editor-at-large of Zahm's Purple magazine ( Annabel Mehran) to make that photoshoot.

Jacobs made a suicide ad campaign under his own name in 2009 Fall Marc Jacobs ad:

Marc and Katie Grand copied more of my photos and ideas in the Miu Miu ad campaigns....

Hailee is wearing lace gloves, big jewelry, crown, (my style) on the cover of Katie Grand's Love Mag, in the same issue as Elle Fanning, where they copied my photo

Elle Fanning on the cover of Katie's Love magazine... the concept inspired by my photos...
The same year the ad campaign of Marc Jacobs Oh Lola perfume was banned also....

The Banned Miu Miu campaign came out in 2011 April the same time when this American Vogue editorial with Hailey, Elle Fanning and Natalia Vodianova.

"Designer Marc Jacobs recently described his new fragrance Oh, Lola! as: "sensual", saying how the little sister scent to the hugely successful Lola is: "More of a Lolita than a Lola"
But it turns out the ad campaign to promote the fragrance is too sensual for some. The Advertising Standards Authority received several complaints after seeing 17-year-old actress Dakota Fanning posing with an oversize bottle of the scent between her legs..."
"Perfume advert starring the teenage actress has been pulled as the Advertising Standards Authority rules that the imagery is guilty of sexualizing a child.
Complaints stated that the Twilight star was being portrayed in an irresponsible and sexualized manner. The ASA responded by stating: "We noted that the model was holding up the perfume bottle which rested in her lap between her legs and we considered that its position was sexually provocative. We understood the model was 17 years old but we considered she looked under the age of 16. We considered that the length of her dress, her leg and position of the perfume bottle drew attention to her sexuality. Because of that, along with her appearance, we considered the ad could be seen to sexualize a child" text via Fashion Telegraph

Dakota Fanning was only 12 years old when she first starred in the Marc Jacobs campaigns

Marc Jacobs with the Fanning Sisters.

The Fanning sisters, who have both appeared in campaigns for Jacobs’ own eponymous brand, took a quick trip to Paris for Coppola's Tuesday evening fete and Jacobs' Wednesday morning show before heading back to New York.

Sofia Coppola and Marc Jacobs are very good friend. Jacobs got Sofia well-paying contracts many times. She has already featured in Louis Vuitton Voyage campaign with her father. She has already designd collections for Louis Vuitton... and the latest job she got was a collaboration with Louis Vuitton, where she designd handbags. Of course she is grateful to Marc. He casted Elle Fanning in her movie when she was only 13 years old.

Before Marc left Louis Vuitton in 2013 October for the last time he gave a well-paying contract for Sofia Coppola. Sofia launched a bag collection for Louis Vuitton, again. Marc counts on Sofia's silence. (She knows everything Marc did to me since the beginning)...
