How To Make A Cute Outfit With Basic Clothes - OOTD

You don't have to spend a lot of money to look amazing. With these cool-girl styling tricks, you'll slay every OOTD

It seems like celebs and style bloggers have unlimited super-cool wardrobes, but really, they just make tiny tweaks to make the most basic outfits look seriously chic. They somehow put together things you never thought would go to create totally fresh, next-level looks using the same pieces. You don't need a stylist to do it! To score the same next level-style just follow these easy tips for making any outfit instantly cooler.

Knot a button-down shirt to show off your waist.

A midi skirt looks super cute with that plaid shirt that's already in your closet. Tying it in the middle will show off rather than hide your shape and give you a more polished look. Layer a turtleneck underneath to keep your belly from showing when it's chilly out.

Here's the trick to making the perf knot: Undo the bottom three buttons and tie the shirt tails into a knot. Tighten so the knot hits just above your belly button and knot again. Straighten the ends so it sits where you want.

Belt your layers.

Layering is an easy way to look fashion-y when it's cold outside and save money by getting more use out of the pieces already in your closet. But when you have a bunch of different layers on, the finished product can end up look a little bulky and random. A belt pulls the whole look together and carves out your figure under all those clothes, so all those layers don't swallow you up.
Here's how it's done:
Step 1: Start by layering a thin, long-sleeved shirt under a sleeveless dress.

Step 2: Toss a button-down shirt on top and leave it open.

Step 3: Add a furry vest.

Step 4: Pull it all together with a belt.

3. Cuff your jeans.

There's nothing wrong with rocking your jeans as is, but your fave closet staple can get an easy upgrade with ankle cuffs. It's a subtle style trick that instantly freshens up an outfit you've worn a million times. Not to mention, it's the perf way to show off your rockin' footwear. The trick is to choose the right technique based on the pant style you're rocking.

Skinny Jeans

Cuffs on skinny jeans look best on the smaller side, because they keep the streamlined look of the fitted pants. Make the cuffs about a half-inch wide and only roll them twice.

Boyfriend Jeans

When it comes to the baggier style of jeans, it's less about cuffing and more about rolling. You want to keep the casual vibe of the jeans intact, and the looser, bulkier fabric works well with a messier cuff.

Roll your jeans about three times with 1-inch cuffs. Don't press down on the cuffs to make a crease. Instead, go for a cylindrical shape like a roll. Mess the cuff up when you're finished so it doesn't look too perfect.

Stack your rings.

One ring is cute; eight is even cuter. But how do you make different sizes and styles of rings look cool and edgy and not like you're a preschooler who got in her mom's jewelry box? It's all about placement and how you stack the different styles.

Cinch a shapeless dress.

A boxy shift dress hides your shape and can look like it came from your mom's closet. Knot it in the middle to gather up all that extra fabric and totally transforms the dress into a more figure-flattering style.
It's super easy to do yourself! Just follow these steps:

How To Dress Modestly In Hot Weather - Tips For Women

HOW TO DRESS MODESTLY

Any woman who has experienced the struggle to dress both cute and modestly in sweltering temperatures and overwhelming humidity may vehemently disagree. As much I love summer, I know that struggle is all too real. So I’ve teamed up with a few of my modest fashion blogger friends to share 20 life-changing tips for dressing modestly and stylishly this summer. Read on for the goodness!

Invest in a chambray button down (or two). This versatile, lightweight shirt will be your summer wardrobe savior. Chambray is a breathable, lightweight fabric that will keep your skin cool and your outfit looking summer ready! The best part: There are endless ways you can style. You can knot it in the front and wear it with a flowy skirt like I did above (it’s a fun way to extend the wear of your holiday skirts), you can drape it over a cotton dress, or you can tuck it into your favorite white jeans and go!

-Go easy on the layers. If you’re like me, you love your scarves, jackets and sweaters. But when those hot temps are ruthless, it’s time to keep it simple. Add color and texture with your shoes, jewelry and hair accessories and if you’re questioning whether to add that last piece of clothing you know will perfect your outfit, don’t. Nowadays there are so many modest shops, and summer months are a good time to invest in pieces/outfits that don’t require added clothing for modesty.
-A lot of times we think about what clothes we wear when it comes to staying cool. However, your lotion can affect your body temperature as well. I’ve found if I slather on a heavy body cream or body oil, this seems to add a layer and makes me (ahem please excuse this unladylike term) sweat! Find a lightweight breathable lotion to moisturize during the hot months.

-Wearing bermuda shorts and T-shirt dresses. Bermuda shorts are the perfect length and T-shirt dresses are casual and lightweight for an everyday look.

  -Wear a cute graphic t-shirt
Wear a lightweight, breezy midi skirt
Pair them together and you’ll be able to withstand the summer heat while looking cute and modest without all of the heavy layers.

-Try choosing light weight clothing. It’s amazing that apparel out there today is looser, longer, and more modest than it has been in years. Not only does this clothing allow you to breathe, they look great, feel comfortable and are quite trendy.”

-I chose to wear a floral chiffon maxi dress. This dress is breathable and loose fitting. For modesty purposes, all I had to do was put a shirt sleeve top underneath, but you can also put on a light cardigan.

HOW TO WEAR A SLIP DRESS

A fashionable feature of the 90’s, is the slip dress and it is making an effortless impression as this season’s must-have item.  Alexander Wang, Burberry and Paco Rabanne have all featured this classic dress in their latest collections.

It can be quite daunting trying to wear a dress which quite frankly looks like lingerie.  Here are some fantastic tips so that you can wear the slip dress with a new found confidence.

Keep it cool, relaxed and simple. Try wearing a basic black slip dress with thin spaghetti straps and style it with strappy sandals.

There are hundreds of ways to wear a slip dress but one of the simplest and most classic ways to be styled daytime, you can wear turtleneck pullovers long sleeve shirts, blouses or basic shirts underneath your slip dress.
If you're not prepared to go braless then a T-shirt worn underneath will give you the coverage you need.

Take your dress to dinner by wearing with an open cardigan. I really like the contrast and the mix of materials.  For maximum effect add a pop of colour.  Rock this elegant look with a pair of this season's sexy mules.

The slip dress lends itself extremely well to layering, and I could easily wear one underneath a jumper, or over a t-shirt.

Length is key. Too short and it looks too close to sleepwear; midi or floor-length looks more modern. Try wearing one under a skirt or another dress so you can see a bit of lace poking out underneath the hem. Or just opt for a silk camisole worn under a biker jacket with jeans.

Don’t be afraid to hide that waist, grab a belt, wrap it around the slip dress and show off your features.

The cut is key, anything on the bias is usually really flattering as it hugs the small part of your waist and skims over your hips and a good fabric is essential, too, a good quality silk will smooth out lumps and bumps, not accentuate them.

Here are a few chic slip dress pieces that will ensure you are on trend this season.

Winter 2016 fashion layering

I love this look. Layering is the best thing when it comes to winter. The trick with super stylish layering is to play with textures and use colours that work together.

Reworking items and styling them to suit different occasions is our best bet. Slipping a long sleeved tee underneath a floral midi dress will make it wearable in the winter months, just as a silk shirt layered beneath an LBD has the potential to make it day time appropriate.

Textures are important when it comes to layering. Contrasting fabrics bring out different dimensions in one other. Pair a velvet or satin top with a piece of knitwear, it will automatically grant it a more casual edge. To similar effect, try a ribbed knit under a crisp, open shirt.

A tunic-style shirt underneath a thin cashmere jumper, topped with a cropped jacket is a sure winner. Try having snippets of the different fabrics peeping through.  Why not also try a more drastic contrast and wear a long-line cardigan underneath a leather jacket?

A love of layers doesn’t mean you have to lose your waist. A long- line sleeveless jacket belted over a pair of wide leg trousers is a particularly glamorous take on this idea. Try a cardigan readily equipped with a belt, or even better, a kimono style jacket

Bursts of different colours make for an exciting outfit, but so too do different shades. Try layering different hues of cream, camel or grey; a trick favoured by the street style stars. That’s not to say this technique requires neutral colours to be effective. Experiment with different tones of blue for a look that’s cool and understated.

A final touch? A necklace, whether it is an intricate chain or a statement neckpiece it adds that bling layer that every look can use.

Culottes - wear them Like a Fashion Pro

If you love the midi skirt trend, here’s an alternative! Culottes have made it back to the future and i'm loving how they have been modernized. They’re comfortable, versatile, and somehow make lady-like feel edgy. In many ways, they achieve what jumpsuits or rompers do by mimicking a dress or skirt with all the practicality of a pant.

As one can imagine, there are numerous ways in styling this look; ranging from super casual to chic to smart casual, and so I recommend letting your imaginations run wild! Not sure where to start? These basic guidelines below should help!

When shopping for culottes, keep these tips in mind:
  • They are generally high-waisted, so they should fit snugly around the waist to really accentuate it
  • Buy your first couple of pairs in classic colours that will pair with most of what you have in your closet
  • Go for a clean, simple style that’s not too voluminous at first—so you can get used to the look
  • If you’re bothered by the length, add a heel then look again
  • Pair with a fitted top that is comfortable and hits the waistband so you balance out the look and show off your assets
Still a little wary? Need some help envisioning how you’ll wear your new culottes? We’ve got you covered.

1.   Think of them as you would an A-line skirt when going about styling them (tucking in a    blouse, for example, or choosing a high-waist pair and adding a crop top), and stick to basic colours like black, navy, and off-white to get yourself started. Before you know it, you’ll be living in culottes and experimenting with fun prints and colours, but this is the best way to start.

2.  midcalf is the best place for your culottes to fall on your legs.  Which will give the appearance of wearing a fun swingy skirt. If you’re on the petite side, opt for a pair that falls right below the knee, and tailor them if you need to.

3.  Arguably the whole point of culottes is getting to show off your shoes. Sleek ladylike options (you really can’t go wrong with a pair of pointy toe pumps with a slim heel) work best, and will instantly elongate your shape. For advanced culottes wearers, think of the pants as your carte blanche to go to town with more daring options like a thick-heeled platform or fun booties.

4.  Culottes are most definitely not just a summer staple.  Wear them with stalking peeking out, a blazer and a scarf for those slightly chilly days, or even with boots, which will give the illusion that you are wearing a continuous pair of pants.
