SMALLFRY SEAFOOD LAUNCH

June 2017

Small Fry Seafood has officially opened! The Japanese inspired tuck shop cuisine is its first to hit Adelaide, sporting made to order gourmet chips, seafood burgers and even an impressive as all anything NYC Lobster roll.

The Asian Subway station interior decor is inspired by the real hole in the wall eateries that litter Japan with amazing food around every corner, and this place lives up to the CBD hype for the best fish and chips.

The food menu on offer has been selected and made with care; every meal is a flavour experience!

Next time you're craving some quick food in the city, pop past Small Fry Seafood for an adventurous work lunch that'll definitely pay off.

My favourite item was the Karage Chicken Burger with Sake Marinated Fried Chicken, Sticky Soy, Slaw and Kewpie Mayonnaise.

Hours:
Mon to Sat 11am–9pm

A big thanks to Jack and Jayee for having me!

What Does Being a “Brand Ambassador” Really Do For You?

Have you ever been approached to be a brand ambassador as a fashion blogger or digital influencer? Unsure whether or not you should commit to doing it?

It's flattering to be approached by an established company. Especially if you're new to fashion blogging and digital influencing, and are developing your own online identity and brand. “The Company” may ask you to lend your images, content or social media space to the promoting of their products. They might even go as far as to suggest you appear in their advertising, host events or created content in exchange for reviewing their products. And while The Company may be willing to shower you will free items (like free clothing for your to wear or extra cosmetics to give away to your followers in contests), it's worth evaluating if this “ambassadorship” is a win-win situation for all parties involved. Is working with The Company as their “brand ambassador” fair to you (and your followers), or is it drastically tipped in The Company's favor?

Over the years, I have been approached by big name companies about opportunities like the ones described above. Most of them have been offering products and/or exposure through their channels, in exchange for my participation. In other words, I would not be receiving monetary compensation for being involved. I value my time and image as a fashion blogger and influencer. Therefore, I closely evaluate these “brand ambassador” proposals that come across my desk, before deciding whether or not I should commit. Spoiler Alert: the ones I take on are few and far between.

If I am offered payment, I consider whether the company is a natural match for myself, my blog and my brand. If yes, then it's an easy decision to make.

And if the answer isn't as clear (or it's an unpaid ambassadorship), I have to consider other factors. How will the ambassadorship benefit my brand in the long run? Are there any benefits for my brand, to be closely tied to this particular company? Doing an unpaid ambassadorship for a high fashion brand is much different than one for a fast fashion apparel company. Will I actually benefit from the exposure the company can provide myself and my blog? Before I can agree (or disagree) to committing to The Company as their brand ambassador, all these questions need to be answered. The bottom line: When in doubt about a brand ambassadorship as a fashion blogger, walk away.

In addition to my thoughts on being a brand ambassador (both paid or unpaid), I gathered some advice from a few fellow bloggers. Check it out below and let us know what your thoughts are on brand ambassadorships in the comments below.

HORSING ABOUT

From the races, to the polo, it has been a massive week of social activity. The social season in Melbourne has truly kicked off with with many outdoor activities taking place. These are some of the biggest social events of the year where fashion meets lifestyle.

Horsing around at the AAMI Derby Day where everyone continues the strong tradition of dressing smartly and appropriately in black and white. Think my fair lady racing style. Here I paired a James Harper blazer and shirt with Jack London trousers and a waistcoat. I of course had to wear some splash of colour so brightened it up with a few colourful accessories.

MENS FASHION ON THE FIELDS 2017
Trotting through the week to Kennedy Oaks Day, otherwise known as "Ladies Day". What fun it was to watch all the fashion on the field competitions. So much colour and creativity when it comes to the crowd. The lovely sunny day was perfect for my Oxford blazer and waitcoat, topping the outfit off with the Flemington pink rose.

WHAT TO WEAR TO THE POLO

There are a number of polo matches held in Melbourne over the course of two months with Portsea Polo being the crowning jewel in socialites calendar. This year I am starting off with Werribee Polo at Werribee Mansion, followed by Twighlight Polo conculding with Portseas Polo in January. Let's be honest, no one attends to actually watch the seven chukkas, the horses, or players(although there are some very attractive players). The real sport here is the people watching. Wearing Bell & Barnett  blazer, Oxford shirt and pants from Entre Amis.

POLO MATCH MELBOURNE

After a week of watching horses on the track and the wonderful people trackside, it is time to turn my mind to sourcing some wonderful pieces for my Eurpoean adventure. Stay tuned to instagram for more.

Flashback - The First Australian Blogger/Retail Collaboration Back In 2009

This blog post came up as a Facebook memory this morning and it really is a great flashback from the early days of fashion blogging. The very first Australian blogger shop window - back then Matt Jordan had his wildly popular Imelda Matt shoe blog and was certainly a major social media star. Fantastic of course. It was early days and no-one really knew where it could or would go, especially marketing departments; and budgets for working with bloggers were essentially non-existent! Commercial blogging was not yet a reality and as a result Matt shuttered the Imelda blog sometime (not too long) later. For Australia's very first Blogger/Retail collaboration I photographed Matt at my photography studio and then did the digital post work, swapping Matt's for Imelda's face in the mirror. I had previously done the portrait of Matt with the shoes around his neck that he ran with as his media portrait for years and years; along with the group photo with the Tan sisters. Fun days; way way before Instagram came along and changed the face of blogging forever. It's been a wild ride - and it's great to still be here. Text below is from the original post November 2009. I think my writing skills have improved somewhat; and of course I'm still available for all kinds of Blogger collaborations, just contact me!

The first Australian Blogger / Retail Window Collaboration 2009.

Its nice to see blogging, portraiture and retail all getting on so well together. In this case I was able to collaborate with Imelda shoe blogger Imelda Matt once again on a portrait project; this time for a window display in Brisbane's luxury emporium Jean Brown. The shot was done in one fairly quick afternoon session in the studio.
