DESIGN COMPETITION // WORLD OF WEARABLEART® COMPETITION - 2015

The World of WearableArt™ Awards Show, known as WOW®, is New Zealand’s largest arts show. Each year, WOW creates a new theatrical world into which incredible wearable works of art are brought to life and are viewed by an audience of 50,000.
The garments are selected from worldwide entries, addressing the brief to take art ‘off the wall’ to adorn the human body. Each successful entry is individually choreographed in a two-hour stage spectacular, including world-class lighting and stage technology.
Designers have until 1 April 2015 to submit their intention to enter the WOW Competition and their garments are due by 15 June. Judging takes place in July and awards are announced in early September.
The WOW Competition has the world’s richest prize pool in the genre of wearable art, with over 40 awards and USD$130,000 total prize money.
For 2015, the Brancott Estate Supreme WOW Award winner will receive NZD$30,000 (USD$25,000) in prize money. There is also a new Wearable Technology Award, which recognises innovative, progressive pieces that merge technology and wearable art.

DESIGN COMPETITION // FRONT ROW SOCIETY - PLAYFUL POP

CREATIVE BRIEF

Submission Deadline: 15 April, 2015, 6pm CET
Voting Starts: 16 April, 2015, 6pm CET

Sometimes it can feel as though we’re watching the death of popular culture, reaching saturation point with this or that reality starlet and bombarded with messages about the latest manufactured musical menagerie. At Front Row Society though, we like to make lemonade with the lemons life hands us, which is why lately we’ve been immersing ourselves in pastiche. From the weird and wonderful creations of Jess Bonham and Anna Lomax to the surreal images of Californian surf punk artist Tyler Spangler, there’s a panoply of artists poking their tongues out at modern life – and we want you to join them.

For this month’s scarves challenge we’re asking you to take a playful pop at the entire canon of mainstream culture. Think back to the humorous sophistication of the swinging 60s, with their colorful flowers blooming from stark black and white grids; or the fun and frivolity of 90s pop music in all its exuberant glory. We’re looking for a clash of pinstripes and polka dots, colorful graphics and surreal combinations. The (pop) world is your oyster, so grab a fork and start eating!

What can you win?

Each winner receives a one-off prize of 200€ once the collection launches on the website plus a sample of their products when it arrives in stock. But that is not all – if your design receives 500 orders on wholesale, you will receive an additional €200. This means that FRS can continue to embody the spirit of fashion democracy, rewarding our top designs again...and again...and again! We will also conduct an interview with the winner, publicizing their design across the fashion community in Berlin and worldwide.

DESIGN COMPETITION // FRONT ROW SOCIETY - PRINT PARTY

CREATIVE BRIEF

Submission Deadline: 15 March, 2015, 6pm CET
Voting Starts: 16 March, 2015, 6pm CET

It’s a little guilty pleasure of ours to every now and then open up the Front Row Society archives and browse through the fantastic range of patterns and prints you guys have been creating for us since we launched our very first design challenge. And what a feast for the eyes it is, from bold geometric graphics, to delicate floral etchings, and covering every imaginable style in between: tribal, watercolor, embroidery, iconography, and much much more.

So this month, we've decided to celebrate everything that we do best here at Front Row Society with our “Print Party” design challenge. You heard us, we’re not just looking for single prints this time – we want to see you go all out with designs that feature a wonderful clash of patterns and colors. Take inspiration from the history of print and try to mix old and new styles, like a classic floral pattern contrasted with an ultra modern geometric design.
