Now that everyone’s likely gotten rid of the pieces in their wardrobe that don’t spark joy, it seems like the perfect time to give your closet a little refresher. And there’s no better place to look for inspiration than Italy.

People have long turned to the streets of Italy for style inspiration. The European country has been a player in the fashion industry for centuries, with cities like Venice, Florence and Rome producing textiles, shoes and jewelry as far back as the 1100s. Italy entered the ready-to-wear market by the 1950s, and as The Metropolitan Museum notes, “thrived on late-century global overconsumption.”

Of course, Italy is also home to Milan, one of the world’s fashion capitals, and luxury labels like Valentino, Missoni, Versace, Prada, Pucci, Moschino and Miu Miu, to name a few. Season after season, people from all over the world flock to Italy for fashion shows and events, filling the streets with their own unique styles.

In 2019 you will be wearing the pants. Well, that’s what designers are hoping. But is it anything new, and does it make a useful statement?

Vengeance is punishment inflicted in retaliation for an injury or offense – retribution. With a vengeance. Yep, because we are mad, as in mad, angry, feisty. Culturally, there is only so much inequality, double standards, lies and bad behaviour a woman can stomach. Christine Blasey Ford, we saluted you for taking the stand and telling the truth. And to all the women who stand up and say something that no-one wants to hear or believe, we say thank you. Now we need to keep smashing it out of the park.

Designers are doing their bit. Yes, we will take the slogan T-shirt from two seasons ago and now we will add a masculine suit, because we can. Sheep in wolves’ clothing? No, just wolves. Out for blood. Always. Mwhahahaha. Because quite frankly we are sick of misconduct towards women. And we like a strong suit. What trumps the suit? A woman in it. Hillary Rodham Clinton was the first First Lady to be painted wearing a black pants-suit, by Simmie Knox (another first – the first African-American artist to receive a presidential portrait commission) for her official White House portrait, unveiled in 2004. The designer of which is unknown. That was only 14 years ago. Crazy. Rebellious. At the time she said: “It is a somewhat daunting experience to have your portrait hung in the White House. It is something that really does, more than any other act … puts your place in history in this building for all the ages and all the people who come through here to see and reflect upon.” Her outfit says confident, chic, sleek and polished. No nonsense, no frills. Get the job done compassionately. It was gutsy

Each year at Thanksgiving, American flags would go up outside the Adams Dolan household in Sydney’s Castle Hill, an affluent suburb about 30 kilometres north-west of the CBD. Matthew Adams Dolan’s mother – an avid quilter and sewer – would ensure the decorations were in place and that a traditional American Thanksgiving would be celebrated. For Christmas, his relatives in America would send him OshKosh and L.L. Bean clothes that he would wear for the next year.

“I have always felt quite American,” says designer Adams Dolan in an Australian accent. Born in a small town outside of Boston, he grew up primarily in Australia, save for stints in high school in countryside Japan and in Switzerland on university exchange. His parents were meant to be in Australia for only a few years, but they enjoyed it so much that it was prolonged – and they still live in Sydney, his father is an agronomist and his mother a narcotics investigator. But he confirmed his outsider status earlier, conscious of his identity as a “non-Australian Australian”, as he puts it, living in Australia,“or when I was in Switzerland or in Japan, where I was obviously not Japanese, so you’re always distanced immediately from everyone because of that”, he says. “When you’re an outsider, you’re able to take a step back and look at everyone and everything else around you.”

There is no denying that the end of the holiday season isn’t exactly our favourite time of the year. Not only does it signify the conclusion of the year that was, but it also means that the festive season is another 365 days away—and unless you plan on jetting off on a European escape come winter, as is your next summer holiday.

Happy Monday loves! I know that we lost an hour from Daylight Savings time but good news, longer (and warmer) days ahead. So let’s wipe the sleep off of our eyes and start the week with a little bit of Street Style from Charlotte Russe. I’m a girl that loves her fair share of dressing up but I also like to take it down a notch for easy, everyday wear. I live for a good t-shirt made of quality, soft material and some comfortable pants such as jeans or these joggers. The two make for a stylish look that is also functional. I could have gone all the way casual and paired these with some tennis shoes but I decided to add a touch of red to give the outfit a little more interest. I love olive green and red together. In fact, olive is a great base to pair many complementary colors with such as red, black/white, or even blush pink. Because temperatures are still chilly, I decided to add a chambray top for warmth as well as an additional element of style. This is street style: LA Edition.

As Kickstarter Alums, all of us at Halfstack know what it takes to have a dream and chase after it! Which is why we are always so excited to share local people and brands doing big things and following their dreams. Our mission, after all, is to share the love and get these up and comers to attention they deserve! So, without further ado - meet Maybe Sunday. Maybe Sunday is a recently launched, Chicago based brand brought to us by two Alumni from SAIC - Jason Guo and McKenzie Thompson.

Maybe Sunday makes fully printed apparel for the active lifestyle. Their first collection includes hats, scarves and shirts with creative, bright and on point printed photo imagery. They are taking "street style" to the next level with their fun and spunky product range which highlights everyday, mundane and pop culture items like gumballs and gummy bears in an interesting manner on shirts, hats and scarves. They use Italian inks on Korean fabrics which showcases vibrant colors and clear imagery. They are a brand that is as devoted to making clothing that not only looks good, but feels good too. As serious as their product development techniques are, the line is as fun as can be!

During the past six months the duo has worked tirelessly to finesse the brand’s identity and goals, and to design and produce apparel that is both unique and accessible to many.They also just recently opened up a concept store in Chicago's burgeoning art district in Pilsen. The team is working hard at crafting the brand in real-time and making plans to expand their line and grow.



It is always amazing to see students fresh out of school following a dream. It is even more refreshing to see them staying right here in Chicago to do it and putting in the due diligence to make sure they can see some success. Getting The Street Style Scoop With New Look | LFW

Hey lovelies! London Fashion Week Sept'14 came to a close on Tuesday and what an INCREDIBLE season it was! From the street style, to the shows, to events - I had the time of my life.  I feel so lucky to have been a part of LFW this September and to be able to share it with you. This season I had the awesome opportunity to partner with New Look for filming on Day 1, bringing you the best of LFW Sept'14 street style and a very special interview . . .

The New Look team and I had a strong idea of the trends we were looking to discover over LFW - my favourites of which were checks and chic blanket wraps. We found ALL our favourite trends and I was so excited to pick the brains of some of LFW's most stylish attendees. Keep tuned into New Look's You Tube channel for our special street style reports!

I also had the pleasure of interviewing lovely Made In Chelsea Star Rosie Fortescue. Rosie and I have known each other for a while and it was so much fun to hang out in the day and chat all things personal style. Rosie and I wore New Look top to toe for the day, and we both mutually had moments of "oh my gosh -  I need to get that!" - in particular I fell for Rosie's heeled mules - they look so expensive BUT they're £39.99 peeps!

Notes on My Outfit: Whenever I'm filming, I like to think of something fun to wear on my top half as this is what will be mostly visible. I opted for a bold brush stroke printed tee, and some gorgeous statement earrings. A full skirt and ladylike heels completed the look and are an easy combination to pair with any number of alternative tops.
