WHO WORE WHAT?......2016 SAG Awards Red Carpet: Claire Danes in Stella McCartney

 Claire Danes in Stella McCartney

"Homeland" actress Claire Danes wore this gown by Stella McCartney at the 2016 SAG Awards. blue color-blocked gown had a plunging neckline, simple and clean silhouette and slight train...

Simple Elegance: We all know that Claire is a fan of this clean and simple red carpet look; she's not a fussy gal when it comes to dressing up. It definitely works for her. And the proportions were just right for her figure. Thumbs up for Claire!

WHO WORE WHAT?......2016 SAG Award Red Carpet: Julianne Moore in Givenchy Haute Couture Spring 2016

Julianne Moore in Givenchy Haute Couture Spring 2016

Actress Julianne Moore wore a citron green sequined gown from Givenchy Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2016 collection. The collection was just shown this past week at the Paris Haute Couture shows and marked the return of the Haute Couture arm of the famed French fashion house of Givenchy. I have to be blunt and honest about this: I was not a fan. Somehow--in this gown--Julianne Moore looked both frumpy and dumpy. I get that this sequined gown is Couture and hand made and costs about $50,000 if not more; and I even get the whole 70's vibe but...

It just didn't fit her right and the style wasn't flattering, especially the too wide gathered bust/bandeau section. On a good note, I liked the color.

What did you guys think? Is this Chic? Or Frumpy and Dumpy?

WHO WORE WHAT?.....SAG Awards 2016: Rachel McAdams in Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring 2015

Rachel McAdams in Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring 2015

Rachel McAdams looked STUNNING in a handmade gown from Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2015 collection. The ball gown featured sequined lace applique that was hand-sewn onto a mini polka dotted mesh base. The style had a high neckline and extended shoulder-sleeves. Notice also the length: on the model (right) the gown had about 3-4 inches of the polka dotted organza fabric at the bottom, yet on McAdams, it was hemmed up as you can see that the sequined lace ends at the bottom of the gown. It was obviously altered from the sample worn on the runway by the 5' 11" tall model to fit the length of Rachel McAdams who is a more "real woman" 5' 4".

WHO WORE WHAT?.....2016 SAG Awards Red Carpet: Rooney Mara in Valentino

 Rooney Mara in Valentino

Actress Rooney Mara wore this black silk tulle gown from Valentino at tonight's 2016 SAG Awards. The gown was simple, with a gathered bust, waistband and softly flared skirt. It was a very Fashion Minimalist look, which to be honest, was slightly on the boring side. To add to the minimalist "theme", she barely accessorized the look and kept her hair to a simple yet severe slicked-back bun. She looked like a Russian ballerina...

What did you guys think? Do you like the simple and severe?

WHO WORE WHAT?.....2016 SAG Awards Red Carpet: Brie Larson in Atelier Versace Spring/Summer 2016

Brie Larson in Atelier Versace Spring 2016

"Room" actress Brie Larson wore this baby blue silk crepe draped gown from Atelier Versace. This gown was just featured in the most recent Atelier Versace Spring/Summer 2016 collection during last week's Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week shows. The collection was inspired by Athletics, the Rio Olympic Games and Sportif themes. The dress has a side front slit and diagonal draping across the bust and hips, and is embellished with sequined "knot" accents.

Larson said that this was the first dress she tried on and it was done and done, as they say.

What do you guys think? Is this a Yeay or Nay?

WHO WORE WHAT?.....2016 SAG Awards Red Carpet: Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton

 Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton

"The Danish Girl" actress Alicia Vikander looked stunning in this shimmery multicolored paillette gown from Louis Vuitton. the gown featured a high neck, long sleeves and side slit. The metallic paillettes (sequins) were in white, black, gold, silver and copper sewn in a patchwork motif...

I loved the patchwork "print" look of this gown...reminiscent of a Gustav Klimpt painting!

Loved the stacked peep toe pumps with gold piping as well!

WHO WORE WHAT....Golden Globe Awards 2016: Trend Alert! Ballgowns and White Gowns

Ball vs. Ivory: Ball Gowns and Ivory Dresses--Trend Alerts seen on the 2016 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet

A couple of other Trends (besides Sequined Gowns) emerged from last night's 2016 Golden Globes Red Carpet: Ball Gowns and White Dresses. It's time to take a look at some examples...

Gina Rodriguez in Zac Posen: Gina Rodriguez is my first starlet featuring the Ball Gown Trend at last night's 2016 Golden Globe Awards. Gina wore this navy blue silk gown from designer Zac Posen. The gown featured an off-the-shoulder neckline, folded and fitted bodice and box pleated full skirt. And yes, it also had side pockets. I thought she looked quite nice and I loved her modern hairstyle and clean makeup and simple jewelry.

Jaimie Alexander in Genny: One of my favorite looks of the night was this emerald green and black devore velvet and organza "printed" gown with a plunging neckline from the Italian fashion brand Genny. And again, we see those inseam side pockets. Chic and effortlessly modern.

Amy Schumer in Prabal Gurung: Comedienne and actress Amy Schumer wore this black and white ball gown from U.S. designer Prabal Gurung. The style had an off-the-shoulder neckline and very full skirt with dramatic train. Oh and yes, side pockets! The lining was white and boy, I can only imagine how dirty it must have been at the end of the night. But at least, Amy looked elegant. I love that very popular sleeked-sides updo on her and that "nude" makeup; she looked very on-trend.

Jenna Dewan Tatum in Zuhair Murad Haute Couture: Another one of my favorite looks from the 2016 Golden Globes was this Zuhair Murad Haute Couture gown worn by Mrs. Channing Tatum. The $100,000+ costing Couture ball gown was made with blue silk organza with thousands of silver crystal sequins hand sewn on the gown. And as with any ball gown of the moment, there were pockets. Of course.

Rachel McAdams in Lanvin: Ball Gown Lite--that's what I am calling this soft A-line flared gown shape. It's like a traditional ball gown but without the inner petticoat/crinoline. This ball gown, by Lanvin, was strapless and featured an asymmetrical yoke and bold flower print. I loved this gown for many reasons especially that it's unusual to see a print on the red carpet and this one was beautiful and romantic.

Saoirse Ronan in Yves Saint Laurent Couture: Actress Saoirse Ronan opted for the Grecian Goddess gown look in this ivory full skirted dress from the custom arm of the French Saint Laurent fashion brand. The brand doesn't really sell gowns and only makes them custom for top actresses for events such as these under the "label" of Yves Saint Laurent Couture. The gown is simple yet dramatic and just right for Saoirse's delicate features.

Laverne Cox in Elizabeth Kennedy: Laverne Cox wore this white ball gown from NYC-based designer Elizabeth Kennedy. Laverne was right on trend for wearing a white colored gown at last night's 2016 Golden Globes. The dress had a batteau high neck, fitted waist and column-to-back full dramatic shape. It was very impacting, both for the stark white color and the structural shape.

Lily James in Marchesa: "Downton Abbey" actress Lily James was also on the White Gown Trend with this creation from Marchesa. The Grecian Goddess-style gown had several layers with the top one being white but subtle gold and pink inner layers added depth. Very beautiful and very ethereal.

Taraji P Hensen in Stella McCartney: Miss Taraji also wore a white gown, this one being by Stella McCartney. The simple strapless sheath sculpted her figure and had added interest with a back "Watteau"-style cape/fall. I have to say, that it was a nice gown but really, Taraji's lifted eyebrows are THE REAL STARS here.

Eva Longoria in Georges Hobeika: Newly-engaged Eva Longoria wore this white cap-sleeved gown from Lebanese Couturier Georges Hobeika. The gown had delicate sequined flower appliques as well as bow-like details on the neckline and waist, as well as a center front slit for easier movement. The dress fit her like a glove.

Alicia Vikander in Custom Louis Vuitton: Actress Alicia Vikander wore this white sequined gown from Louis Vuitton. While Louis Vuitton does not make gowns for sale, they make them custom if you are...Alicia Vikander. The dress was romantic, feminine and very pretty. It wasn't Fashion with a Capital "F" but nice and pretty.

Jane Fonda in Yves Saint Laurent Couture: Finally, I have to finish my White Gown Trend ladies with THE DIVA, Miss Jane Fonda. Now, I realize this look may not be for everyone, but to heck with that! Many people--some, my own good friends, tell me "why doesn't anyone take a chance? The red carpet is sooooo boring now!". Well, Exhibit A kids: Jane Fonda is fearless, a style icon and I ADORE it! This ivory gown is from Yves Saint Laurent Couture and features a triple tiered ruffle capelet balanced off by a slim column gown and long thin sleeves. I think she is every ounce a STYLE Empress in this. It reminds me of the Besty Bloomingdale/Nan Kempner days of the FashionDiva/ muses. I wish more women dressed like this to go out on the town. Seriously.

WHO WORE WHAT.....2016 Golden Globes Awards Red Carpet: Top Ten Favorite Gowns

Gown Fab: Some of the Best gowns seen at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet

Last night were the 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards and the kickoff to the 2016 Awards Season and Awards Season Red Carpet! So how did the stars do in the gown choices? Pretty good for the most part. Besides the gorgeous Debbie Matenopoulos--TV Presenter, Greek food enthusiast and Co-Host of The Insider TV Show--who wore one of my NIKOLAKI gowns (more on that in a following post!), here are my Top Ten Favorite Gowns from last night's Golden Globes 2016 Red Carpet:

Jennifer Lawrence in Custom Christian Dior: I loved the modern, clean and architectural silhouette to this gown. As we know, Jennifer Lawrence is the "face" of the Dior addict Beauty Campaign and therefore, it is probably (most definitely!) in her contract to wear Dior, and why wouldn't she? The red column Custom Christian Dior gown features a cropped top design attached to the gown, plus side peek-a-boos. The structure is a blend of 60's simplicity with 70's minimal sexiness. Her makeup and hair are PERFECTION. And so is that statement-making necklace.

Malin Akerman in Reem Acra Pre-Fall 2016: Actress Malin Akerman looked radiantly beautiful in this strapless lace gown with structured peplum detail from the Reem Acra Pre-Fall 2016 Collection. She looked like European royalty.

Jennifer Lopez in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture Fall 2015: Jennifer Lopez always knows how to "bring it!". I always say "Her momma done taught her well!", or she's had training with some fabulous drag queens, that's for sure! J Lo chose this mustard yellow silk double-face crepe gown from Giambattista Valli Haute Couture Fall 2015 Collection. I know that this style of a gown is not for everyone, but that's the point. This gown needs a fearless DIVA to work it. And Miss Lopez does. The hand-made $100,000+ gown features an attached shoulder cape, side hip draping  and yards and yards of falling fabric that ends in a dramatic train.

Lily James in Marchesa Spring 2016: At first glance, I thought this beautiful woman was one of those "Victoria's Secret" models--pick any of them!--and was reluctant to place her in my Top Ten List since I think placing a model here is a bit unfair because, well, they are models and have an added "edge" when stepping onto a red carpet...but no, in fact this is "Downton Abbey" actress Lily James. I think she looks like a Grecian Goddess angel in this one shoulder off-white iridescent organza gown from Marchesa Spring 2016 Collection. I think it was wise to add a full lining as opposed to wearing it just like on the runway. I love the draping and gathering and especially the back falls that dramatically add design interest to the dress.

Kate Bosworth in Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda: Kate Bosworth wore this gorgeous all-over sequined gown from Dolce & Gabbana's Alta Moda Collection. The strapless gown features elaborately beaded bustier section and long straight skirt with slight train. Along with her severe hair style and "nude" makeup, she looks like a (Northern) Italian principessa!

Lady Gaga in Atelier Versace: I put Lady Gaga in my Top Ten because she deserved to be! I know that once again, this gown may not be liked by everyone from here to Poughkeepsie but...who cares! I love this "Mae West"-Meets-Marilyn Monroe look on Lady Gaga. I also love how she has made this style transition and embraced this Vintage Retro Glamour Diva look. The black silk velvet gown is from Atelier Versace (hello Donatella!) and features an off-the-shoulder neckline, cinched waist plus padded upper hips. All that she is missing is a group of tuxedo'ed men dancing around her!

Jaimie Alexander in Genny designed by Gabriele Colangelo: One of my favorite looks from last night's 2016 Golden Globes Red Carpet. This gown silhouette is not necessarily original but the FABULOUS emerald green-and-navy geometric print sure is. The architectural lines of the gown (severe plunging neckline, box-pleated skirt) are perfectly complimentary to the geometric "prints" on the gown's fabrication. Jaimie looks modern, chic and elegant.

Saoirse Ronan in Yves Saint Laurent Couture: Actress Saoirse Ronan wore another white Grecian Goddess-style gown (a 2016 Golden Globes red carpet trend perhaps?) at last night's Golden Globes. The gown is from Yves Saint Laurent Couture--which is basically the "PR" arm of Saint Laurent making custom gowns for actresses for award show red carpets and important events. I liked the simplistic elegance of this gown and the fact that it actually does give slight homage to the real Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture gowns of the past, albeit, he would have done it in bright orange or in a glorious animal print! But I'll take a good Grecian Goddess gown and praise it whenever it is warranted; and her it is!

Zendaya in Marchesa Pre-Fall 2016: Zendaya made quite a fashion statement--in my eyes--wearing this wine-red applique gown from Marchesa Pre-Fall 2016 Collection. The gown featured a plunging neckline and triple tiered gown-skirt. I loved the drama of the gown and yes, only 5' 10" model-thin Zendaya could probably pull this silhouette off.

Jenna Dewan Tatum in Zuhair Murad Couture Fall 2015: I loved this gown when I saw photos of it from the Zuhair Murad Haute Couture Fall 2015 runway and I love it on the red carpet, here worn by Mrs. Channing Tatum. The theme of that collection was "traveling through the heavens" and certainly, there is a Galactic feel to the midnight blue gown with star-like sequins. It is a gorgeous gown, one of the most impacting at the 2016 Golden Globes Red Carpet.
