ANY STEP MBFWA Raffles International Showcase 2015

Oh Bondage - Up Yours!

Well actually the range is called HEROINE SS 2015/16 and it is Amazonian princesses meets late night bondage club all of which reminds me of going to the Beat club in Brisbane back in the early 80s... or even more so, Black Market in Sydney later on (though real B&D has never been very attractive to me). I do like the playful dress-up elements in this range; perhaps more inspired by Malcolm Mclaren and doyen of British fashion Vivienne Westwood who's shop SEX, was pretty much to-the-point and where it all got started as (Punk) fashion from fetish. And here we are, we have come a long way; certainly rebellion is prettier this time around. The designers of ANY STEP by Amy Le and Stephanie McGuigan have just shown at China Graduate Fashion Week #CGFW in Beijing, so time I thought to get my shots of this range off the hard drive and up online. I hope you enjoy the show; gold-lamé leggings on suspender straps.. I certainly did. Mouse over image for details.

Anthropologie Southport Fall Runway Show

I am a lover of fashion any season, all year long, but there is just something about the transition of autumn that sparks a whole new kind of inspiration and excitement in my wardrobe. Buckle adorned ankle boots, over-sized flannel, tweed-patterned leggings; I love it all. I want it all!

Thank goodness for gorgeously stocked stores like Anthropologie. The whimsical, meets modern selections are always fun to peruse, even if it's one of those "window shopping only" kind of weeks. You gals all know what I mean.

In celebration of the season's amazing fashions, Anthropologie at 3532 N Southport Ave, hosted a fall fashion show on Thursday, October 2nd. Featuring a selection of pieces and accessories exclusively found at Anthropologie, the show was modeled by local bloggers, employees, and customers.

Anthropologie Southport Apparel Department Manager, Maureen Sullivan assisted with planning, as well as operating the event. "This year’s fashion show focused on some of our key buys and inspirational layering silhouettes," said Sullivan. "There was a focus on dress up/ dress down and versatile looks."

With so many wonderful looks to choose from, Sullivan said it would be difficult for her to choose a favorite of the evening, but admitted she loved the sense of community the fashion show encapsulated. My favorite part of the show? The fluffy pomeranian that strutted the runway rocking a bow tie! (scroll down and prepare for the cuteness).

True to the Anthropologie aesthetic, the evening highlighted a beautiful display of unique and on trend fashions. Sullivan shared with me that her favorite trend this season is feminine floral prints mixed with masculine plaids and knit textures. "We love to see that juxtaposition of different prints, colors, and fabrications to create a well curated narrative."

As a fun finale, guests partook in a raffle with the possibility of winning some amazing prizes! "All the raffle prizes were curated around specific gift themes, that we feel will be important this coming holiday," said Sullivan. "We have such strong home vendors that create really unique bar ware, kitchenware, and candles that we wanted to be able to inform [guests] of all our great product, but also give [guests] a chance to experience it [themselves], and of course it was such an exciting way to thank [them] for being a part of our event."

Spring/Summer 2014 fashion trend: The Kimono

Kimonos are all the rage these days and they’re everywhere! Having featured on the Spring Summer 2014 catwalks for high end designers, the kimono has hit the high street and is set to be a really big trend for the summer season.  It’s a very easy piece to wear and styling it is just as easy.

The kimono, which essentially is a lightweight jacket, has become very popular among many women.  This lightweight outerwear is currently replacing the basic cardigan.  The hippie trend is versatile because you can wear it to work, the beach, or a night out on the town!  Work with colours found in your kimono. To help pull together your entire look.

The kimono is a great alternative to a blazer or jacket for the warmer months. To avoid looking boxy and unshapely, team it with slim or tighter fitting clothes underneath!  Try wear the kimono with skinny jeans, heels and a simple tee. It means you can have fun with the print and let the kimono do the talking. It’s also a great way to introduce colour into an otherwise simple look!

For a luxurious and dressed up look, kimonos can be styled with a silky slip dress and heeled sandals. Or, try a more fitted dress with wedge heels. They also make sense with jumpers and rompers.
Kimonos that have fringe are a personal favorite of mine, as they remind me of that chic 1960s hippy look.  Whether you are attending a music festival, or you just want to give off that boho glow in your city, a fringed kimono is the way to go.

Besides being trendy, a kimono can also be really useful when you are at the beach or at the pool. Wear it to cover yourself up a little bit, over your swimsuit, or when you move to the bar area. Super elegant!!

As summer transitions to fall, you can be sure the kimono fashion trend will last. Ankle booties and leggings will make perfect companions to this piece, especially when accompanied by a long-sleeved T-shirt layered underneath.

Below you can see some outfit ideas with a kimono to inspire you to wear a kimono this Spring/Summer.

HOT TREND: THE COOLEST WAYS TO ROCK SNEAKERS

The sneakers/trainers/running shoes trend, whatever you want to call it, has exploded onto the fashion scene for 2014 and is really taking off!  Brands like Nike, New Balance and more are releasing their takes on the sneakers and fashion bloggers, celebrities from across the globe have jumped on board the trend!

A cool pair of comfy lace-ups is the perfect way to dress down a fancier frock or add an unpredictable twist to a more casual ensemble.  As we saw on the Chanel and Dior Couture runways, these pumped up kicks are being worn with anything and everything, including skirts and dresses.

Wearing heels 24 hours just sounds impossible. Sandals and boots aren’t for every season and sneakers just seem to be the way to go sometimes. But sometimes it can be challenging to incorporate into a fashionable outfit, without looking like you just hit the gym. I’ve included multiple photos of street style stars, bloggers and more sporting the sportswear trend and rocking it! we all want to feel pretty, girly, and even sexy while wearing sneakers.

1. Don’t just wear any sneaker
You should have non-gym sneakers that are clean and flattering, and have a certain classy look about them – you want people to know you’re wearing them as a fashion statement.

2. All or nothing
Depending on your personality, you’ll either want to stock up on barely-there ankle socks or go all in with eye-catching socks that complement your ensemble.

3. Be particular with the rest of your outfit
Make sure the rest of your outfit is polished with clean lines (in other words, no frumpy pants that sag over your cool sneakers). The whole point is to offer a stylish contrast between masculine and feminine.

4. Start with a monochromatic look
If you’re new to the world of cool sneakers, make a splash by wearing a monochromatic look and use your sneakers as the pop of colour your outfit is waiting for. Keep the colour palette simple for a complicated shoe.

5. Mix and match
Experiment! Mix different outfits with different cool sneakers without fear you’re “doing it wrong.” Go with your gut and wear what you love – confidence will always make or break an outfit.

6. Go super feminine
Wear form-fitting, girly pieces (like leggings, skinny jeans, or maxi skirts), which will turn your sneakers into a cute accessory instead of an eyesore.

7. Keep an eye on proportions
Wearing high-top sneakers with a knee-length skirt will make you look shorter – opt for low-tops that will elongate your legs.

8. Accessorize accordingly
Adding sophisticated accessories will l any doubt that you’re on your way to the gym. Opt for things like a super-tailored blazer, lux fabrics like cashmere, straight leg jeans or a structured bag.

Hopefully this gives you some great inspiration on how to include sneakers into your outfits, whether they be neon, coloured or neutral!  From high-top cut-outs to low-top lace-ups, sneakers are all about keeping it classic. And comfy, of course. Here are some ideas on just how to rock them…

Which looks do you like? If you love the sneakers trend.
