Last week, I had some very important business meetings (relating to a possible "NV by Nick Verreos" line I have been diligently working on) in NYC. Once I finished the meetings, I got on a plane and flew to one of my other favorite cities in the good ol' US of A: San Francisco! I was scheduled to make a "Nick Visit" as part of my FIDM "3 Days of Fashion 2012" tour at the wonderful Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising San Francisco campus last Wednesday.

The weather in SF this past week was GORGEOUS! Warm but not too hot and  very clear (No fog in SF: who knew!?). The FIDM SF campus is located in the heart of Union Square so on my way there--with my trusty NIKOLAKI confidante David Paul (who of course, flew with me!)--it was very difficult to keep away from going into EVERY store to do some retail damage.

There was no time for that, it was all about my Appearance and showing some of my NIKOLAKI Collection dresses to all the high school students who were in attendance for this final third day of the "3 Days of Fashion".

Over 100 students plus some of their mom's and dad's greeted me with a wonderful "San Francisco" welcome!! I spoke about my time as a young boy drawing all the stewardess uniforms while traveling on trips with my mom and dad, as well as how I decided to attend FIDM and all that has happened since, including "Project Runway", all my TV Red Carpet Expert work and of course, dressing celebs like Katy Perry, Beyonce and Heidi Klum. Speaking of my NIKOLAKI designs...

Then, after my "Nick Talk" and NIKOLAKI mini-fashion presentation, it was on to judging the "Rock the Runway" Contest--where "3 Days of Fashion" attendees were told to dress in their most "original" outfits which expressed their most "unique" styles.

I had the privilege of being one of the judges,--along with my NIKOLAKI design partner David Paul, FIDM Alumna Julia Anne Hill (she's Apparel and Design Director/Social Media Specialist for Clinton Kelly Inc.) and two hand-picked FIDM SF "3 Days of Fashion 2012" attendees. The Contest was SO much fun--not so much fun to judge (it was very, very difficult since they were ALL very good!)--but fun to see all of the students' ensembles!

McQueen'ed: One of our faves was this one young man named Diego Rivera (I know--just like the Mexican painter!)--you can see him in the photo above wearing the denim shirt, McQueen scarf and black Meggings (male leggings). I teased him because he also had FAB accessories including very expensive Hermes "Collier de Chien" cuff and Cartier "Love" bracelet. I wondered (out loud!) who his Sugar Daddy was--and if I could have his phone number??

Once again, it was a very successful and fantastic FIDM "3 Days of Fashion" in San Francisco--I had so much fun meeting all the students, their mom's and dad's, judging the contest, as well as showing them my NIKOLAKI designs. I LOVE SF and cannot wait to come back!!!

Last night I was one among many attending The Antipodean Divine Comedy, Garry Shead's latest exhibition of figurative oil paintings. One can usually expect a good crowd at Australian Galleries but I knew it would be a crush as I strolled up to 15 Roylston Street and saw the refreshments table out front, outside! Inside, while not exactly a crush were quite a lot of people there to see the paintings and artist Garry Shead as well. The opening night speech by Sasha Grishin AM, FAHA provided a fabulously succinct background to Dante's Divine Comedy, Shead's works relationship to that great literary masterpiece and a quick art history lesson on those who have come before, creating masterful art and drawing on inspiration from the same source. Sasha Grishin also told of dining with John Olsen who had stated to him (I quote from my imperfect memory) "Garry Shead carries Australian figurative painting on his shoulders."

This is a beautiful show, do head over to Paddington to see it. I loved what I felt was a whimsical magic to the paintings, truly romantic works easily holding their own with other great works drawn from Dante's inspirational poem of love.

With fashion becoming all chic and comfy, t-shirts are totally ruling the current space.
T shirts are like classics, and the best part being, one is never too old to sport t-shirts.
But what if you could give your older pals who are almost dying in your closet a sweet makeover and dress them up to get your fashion game on point.
For all those days when a t-shirt is too boring, and a dress too dressy, give your plain tee’s an upgrade trying some cute ways to cut a t shirt .
A bit of creativity, a pair of scissors and some t shirt cutting tutorials is all what you need to de-construct and re-construct your favourites.

Here are some quick DIY’s on how to cut t shirts and wear them the fashionable way.

I’m sure you have tried the different t shirt cutting ideas and cut old t shirts and experimented with different styles, hence here I have for you different ways you could rip the t shirt and make it new:

1. Simply Sleeveless
A simple hack, pick up am old t shirt, maybe the one which has become a little tight for you. Cut the sides of the t shirt till all the way down and leave some 4-5 inches from below. You can decide the width of the shoulder strap you want and cut accordingly. Stretch your cuts so that the fabric doesn’t look like its cut unevenly.

Crop Tops

This one is my ultimate favourite. Crop tops are definitely the biggest trend out there and making one with the existing tees is even easier.

To execute this DIY project idea, first cut t shirt sleeves by the hemline to restore that crop top grunge. Next, widen that neckline, by simply cutting it from being a round neck to more of a boat neck. Now, cut short the length. When cutting the hem, let the sides be shorter and the front longer. Always remember to stretch the cuts you’ve made for it to look crafty and original.

 Do It Yourself – A Winged Back
Now this is not for the beginners. DIY projects like this one, needs some practice and patience too.

Get an old t shirt, a marker and a pair of scissors to make this dragon fly back tee shirt on your own. With your market draw the stencil like these on the back of your tee shirt. If you’re not too confident about your drawing skills, then print out a picture from the internet and trace it out. With a comfortably held pair of scissors, cut the design one by one. Be careful with the edges because we don’t want them looking messy. This t shirt cutting pattern is surely for the more artistic one’s who want to fly high wearing a pair of wings on their t shirt.

 DIY Ideas For A Cut-Out Neck Pattern

If you like to play some peek-a-boo, then here’s an interesting way to cut a t shirt, by cutting out the neck yoke to create a high street look. Start with drawing an outline of the cut you want to make around the neckline and the arms, and then get cutting. Take your time to meet that designer finesse

Shoulder Cut

This is one creative t shirt pattern that requires precision. If gone wrong, it will ruin your efforts and the t shirt too. Start, with cutting along the sleeves and then the shoulder, the neck and then the other sleeve. Make equal cuts, as too much gap will not look aesthetic.

Back Cut Velcro
This DIY t shirt cutting craft is sure to get your toned lower back, all the attention it deserves. Though it looks a little twisted, but is one of the simplest. You just have to cut a straight slit at the back, making the entire top look like a simple long piece. Then put a Velcro on either side like the way it is in the picture. Cut down the fabric to get that angle behind.

 Fringe DIY
Again, a no fuss DIY t shirt cutting, this one, needs you to cut the bottom of the t shirt in fringes. The thickness of the fringe does not matter but, thinner the fringe, the better they look.

Night of the Jumper 'N' Jacket @ Art Space Woolloomooloo..

A huge show of local and international art is always going to deliver a huge crowd. It's my first trip back to the Gunnery in Woolloomooloo in its new incarnation as Art Space; and it did not disappoint as the style flowed as freely the wine and beer, so much so I need to get back there and check out the show. What I saw I loved and I didn't see anyone kick any of those ticking metronomes - "Object to be destroyed" on steroids! At least they are the wooden German ones with the nice tone. Jumpers were hot and I wish that knitwear in the second shot down had the face woven in, alas it is just a shadow. Plenty of colour, but I seem to be falling in love with black and white photography all over again, so here's a selection of both. thanks guys (guys and gals) you are awesome!
