Santa's Gimp and the Amazing World (that was) Rock Photography, with Tony Mott.

Photography (that was), what a strange little blog title especially since Mr Tony Mott is still a photographer. Why the "that was"? Well because, digital photography, of course! In the lead up to this event on the 22nd of November 2015 I was reading how Tony took a year off to help look after his newborn twins; and when he took this photography sabbatical he had 182 rock mag clients on file that he sold pictures to. A year later there were just 22, and now only 3 of the original 182 left! Now of course people are as passionate about music as ever, and as passionate about rock photography as ever.. But it's all gone online, it's getting shot-and-shared by amateurs for free; and let me tell you; it's hard to make a living working for free, Q.E.D. this blog.Santa's Gimp? But great Rock 'n' Roll photographer that Tony is, he was not going to launch his A-Z of Rock Photography book on a low note, hell no; it was going to be rock-and-roll all the way with way more than just a nod in the direction of "your momma won't like it" :-) hell no - HELL NO! I ask you, what's wrong with kids today? All signing up for frequent flyer points and all that consumer loyalty shit and a free cup of coffee - You know REBELLION - is still the only cool gig in town - stop nerding, lets get back to ROCKIN'... Scroll on, because here are the players on the night.

Night of the Jumper 'N' Jacket @ Art Space Woolloomooloo..

A huge show of local and international art is always going to deliver a huge crowd. It's my first trip back to the Gunnery in Woolloomooloo in its new incarnation as Art Space; and it did not disappoint as the style flowed as freely the wine and beer, so much so I need to get back there and check out the show. What I saw I loved and I didn't see anyone kick any of those ticking metronomes - "Object to be destroyed" on steroids! At least they are the wooden German ones with the nice tone. Jumpers were hot and I wish that knitwear in the second shot down had the face woven in, alas it is just a shadow. Plenty of colour, but I seem to be falling in love with black and white photography all over again, so here's a selection of both. thanks guys (guys and gals) you are awesome!

From Art Space website,
"With over 60 artworks, and drawing on the notion of the dematerialisation of  art, Art as a Verb looks broadly at art’s relationship to the world and what constitutes the work of an artist. How do the varying roles of an artist (as instigator, facilitator, teacher, performer, consumer or visionary) fit within broader society? And how does the museum or gallery support art forms that function beyond the art object?"

A walk through Paris for Bastille Day

OK these 25 pictures were actually made during the first leg of our month in France, or late spring; but after a month of shooting every day all I can say is I have a virtual mountain of images.. so here's a collection taken from several walks, trips on one Sunday in Paris (which is what this post would have been called had I completed it last week). From the backstreets of Dupleix when I head out for croissants to a location scout at Champ de Mars - for that 'perfect' Tour Eiffel shot.. and meet a green grocer with the best looking punnets of wild berries I have ever seen. Later Viv and I headed over to Invalides then Musée Rodin and back to the hotel via Pont Alexandre III - where we did a fashion shoot; it was the most crowded Vivienne had ever seen it. Of course if you are anywhere actually near that big iron tower you will see a lot of souvenir sellers and I have kept it down to just two pictures at Bir-Hakeim metro, for now. Regardless of a day of exertion we headed out again; down Boulevard de Grenelle to La Cantine du Troquet Dupleix for a fantastic diner. So stay tuned for that, it's coming as a separate post soon. So happy Bastille Day to one and all, I hope you enjoy my pictures from one day in Paris!
