This past week, I flew to Minnesota to the headquarters of the EVINE Live TV Shopping Network, to present my Spring 2016 "NV by Nick Verreos" clothing line. I had the pleasure of having TWO separate shows--each one hour--one in the morning and one later in the afternoon. Naturally, I had to do outfit changes...on myself! I am soooo HAPPY that the "NV" gals were shopping and they scooped up some MAJOR deals and got some SUPERFAB items!!! I also had so much fun with my two hosts, Fatima Cocci and Erin Newburg: I *HEART* them!

Pageant Minute: Miss World 2012--World Fashion Designer Award Competition--The "Oh Dear"!!!

Beauty Pageant Evening Gown "Oh Dear"!

Where Is Miss Mongolia On This List? Keep Reading...

If you're an avid pageant-watcher (and if you are reading this, you probably are), you know that the 62nd Annual Miss World contest is happening in Ordos Inner Mongolia China and the Final Live Telecast will take place in a couple of weeks on August 18th.

Well kids, it's here--my Nick "Oh Dear, What was SHE Thinking?" List of Gowns from last week's Miss World 2012 "World Fashion Designer Award Competition. In the last post here on my little ol' blog, I talked about some of my favorites in the bunch. So, now...let's get to the CHA CHA, too-high SLITS, Is-This-a-National-Costume-or-an-Evening Gown?, "Big Bird" inspired Feathered MESSES:

Cha Cha Queens:

Miss Costa Rica Silvana Sanchez: No, no and NO! (I think that is UNIVERSAL in every language). I want to put a big banana-and-pineaple Carmen Miranda turban atop her head to just finish this ensemble off. That's what she is missing. Score: 4.5 (out of 10 in case you are wondering)

Miss Bosnia and Herzegovina Fikreta Husic: Havana Cuba, here I come!! Or is it Rio?? Remove those tacky hem-piped ruffles on that over-the-shoulder capelet and change those 1988 pumps, and then, maybe then, we can discuss...Score: 5.0

Miss Serbia Bojana Lecic: OK, first off: she's GORGEOUS. But this gown. Who. Puts. WIRING on the hem of a ruffled high-low gown like this? She's not a Circus Clown from Cirque du Soleil! And then, what is hanging off her shoulder? It's called EDIT! How do you say "Poor Thang" in Serbian? Score: 4.9

Miss Bulgaria Gabriela Vasileva: Little PEACH Bo Peep Stripper Fab. That's what I would call this dress. Last year's Miss World, Ivian Sarcos of Venezuela, won in something that was (somewhat) similar to this, so she probably felt "Hey, I want something like this" and told her designer to create it. Bad idea. The oversized earrings and stripper platform heels did not help. Score: 5.5

The HOOCHIE Awards Go To:

Paris and Snookie: Miss Kazakhstan and Miss Belgium

First, let's begin with Miss Kazakhstan Evgeniya Kleshina (left pic above). This red lace and feathered mermaid-style gown with silver bust cups is a HOOCHIE fab. It's NOT the Las Vegas AVN Porn Awards huney, it's MISS WORLD! Those platform heels SLAY me. So tacky. Score: 4.5

Miss Belgium Laura Beyne: I'm sure Laura is a sweet girl but why did she think Snookie from Jersey Shore was an Evening Gown Muse?  I cannot say more. Score: 4.9

She Didn't Even Try Award Miss Slovakia Kristina Krajcirova: Poly-satin strapless gathered gown with badly-constructed rippling hem. This is a gown one would see at a prom-and-bridal shop, for 75% off. Score: 4.5

Too Muchey Award Miss Honduras Jennifer Valle: Let's just throw everything AND the kitchen sink...into a gown. Can you just imagine if this ended up on the Project Runway catwalk in front of Michael Kors and Nina Garcia? Or on an award show red carpet? Plain and simple, it's CHONCHEE! (Latino for TACKY!). Score: 4.9

Feathered Messes:

Guadeloupe and El Salvador

Miss Guadeloupe Brigitte Golabkhan (left): is so beautiful I can't even breathe. However, she chooses to wear this black and magenta satin and feathered concoction of a gown to the Miss World "World Fashion Designer Award" Competition last week, and well, her beauty stock for me, just went down. Score: 5.2

Miss El Salvador Maria Luisa Vicuna (right): Too much lace, too many feathers, and then the mermaid shape. She was trying for a Beyonce-at-the-Met and well, she achieved a gown in a San Salvador Drag Show. Score: 5.0

The Bahamas and Ukraine

Miss Bahamas Daronique Young (left): I give her points for the "I'm a Mermaid Princess" look. She does look kinda HOT in this two piece ensemble. But, isn't this more of a costume than an evening gown? How many peacocks did it take to make this gown? Score: 6.0

Miss Ukraine Karina Zhyronkina (right): Let me begin by saying that she is STUNNING! She should either win Miss World 2012 or at least be on the Final podium (it's like the Pageant Olympics!). But this gown. There's something both beautiful (the sequin detail looks expensive and I like the black and blue color combination) but...the feather applique and side cut-outs on the torso, it all adds to a dress one would see atop a Gay Pride float. Score: 7.0

Rosette Queens: Indonesia and Uganda

Miss Indonesia Ines Putri Tjiptadi Chandra: If this gown was placed in front of Michael Kors on Project Runway, he'd say she looked like she was POOPING feathered rosettes. Score: 4.8

Miss Uganda Phiona Bissu:  Awww, bless her little heart. Miss Uganda's gown reminds me of those dresses that are made entirely of toilet paper... I really wish there was something more I could say. Score: 4.5

National Costume Awards:

Miss Kenya Shamim Nabil: OK, maybe I am confused. I know that the Miss World "World Fashion Designer Award" is about highlighting the fashion design talent of the contestant's nations. So...is this also the National Parade of Nations Costume Parade? Can it be too redundant for a "Miss Kenya" to be wearing animal print safari as an evening gown? I think even the safari tourists would run away from this. Score: 5.0

Miss Cote d'Ivoire Helene-Valerie Djouka: Because she looks so darn cute, I am giving her points. Otherwise, on any one else, this still would be a pseudo-costume mess of an orange dress. And is that an iridescent poly organza overlay?? NOOOO!!!! Score: 6.4

And My Favorite of the Group:

Miss Mongolia Bayaarma Huselbaatar: I don't even know where to begin with this one. But I'll try. Bayaarma gets MAJAH "Nick Points" in the "Bringing Out Your Inner Drag Queen" part of working a runway catwalk. This gown/costume is rather FAB in a kooky way. The headdress is very John Galliano for Dior "Tutankhamen" Collection from back in the day.

For ALL of this, I give her my Score of 8.0. It's a MESS but a mess that makes a gay man smile.

10th Annual CFDA 2011 Awards Red Carpet--Models and Designers

Fashion A-List...

Last night's 2011 CDFA Awards Red Carpet was not only full of Hollywood's A-List ladies--but also, chock full of models and their designers. This event, as you saw from my previous posting is on par with many of the top red carpet events and is known delivering Fashion--with a Capital "F" (hello Miss Lady Gaga!). Anyhow, let's see if these gorgeous supermodels and their designers make the NY Fashion Grade. Let's begin with...

Miranda Kerr: Australian Victoria's Secret Angel Supermodel--and SuperMommy, Miranda Kerr, wore Michael Kors Resort 2012, a black tank dress with high sarong-silhouette slit, side cut-outs and gold low-slung belt. Very Michael Kors, very Americana Sportswear-meets-St. Tropez, and very Chic! I especially love the "Wonder Woman" gold cuffs. I bet those are to ward off any EVIL Fashion Spirits. I need those!

Karolina Kurkova: Miss Kurkova--one of my FAVE Supermodels wore an emerald green sequin HOODIE gown with pockets by Diane Von Furstenberg. Sequins, Hoodie, and Pockets? I am Done and Done! Only a model--or a Drag Queen--can get away with this! Love--even the "high-water" length of the gown. This Czech beauty knows how to WORK IT!

Hana Soukupova:
Another fabulous model from the Czech Republic, six-footer Hana Soukupova, dazzled on the 2011 CFDA Awards Red Carpet in a one-shoulder ruffled and tiered gown by Marchesa Spring 2011. Love it all. Now this is how you wear a gown to the CFDA Awards Lucy Liu!

Marchesa Designers: Speaking of Marchesa, they were there--English-born New York-based designers Keren Craig (Left) and Georgina Chapman (Right), also dazzled in their own designs as they stepped onto the purple CFDA Awards carpet last night.

Doutzen Kroes: Dutch-born beauty Doutzen Kroes also decided to give SLIT (like several of the other models) in this fire-red (almost) one-shoulder asymmetrical gown from J. Mendel. The subtle diagonal draping and pleating is exquisite. And those PUMPS!!!! Hello!

Derek Lam and Liya Kebede: Designer Derek Lam, seen above with Ethiopian-born Supermodel Liya Kebede--wearing Derek Lam of course. She looked very "Easy-Breezy" Resort-esque, love the fresh, flowing side-parted hair as well as the mini clutch. Effortless. I also love the wine-colored slip-on's on Derek.

Chanel Iman: Speaking of "Easy-Breezy", Chanel Iman was at the CFDA Awards last night and wore a very relaxed turquoise-colored caftan with high center-front slit (a theme of the night?) by Max Axria. She was very Disco 1979 as well (like Karolina Kurkova, see above). This is also looking like a Theme. Ladies, better get that Saturday Night Fever album out of the closet and start dancin'!

Karlie Kloss and Jason Wu: Models loved those relaxed comfy dresses, don't they? Here model-of-the-moment Karlie Kloss wore a simple, spaghetti strap red gown with skinny black belt from Designer-of-the-Moment Jason Wu. I can see this gown on First Lady Michelle Obama like TOMORROW! Jason, seen above with Karlie, looked very dapper in suit and tie. This just could be the CUTEST Prom Date Photo.

Zac Posen and Sessilee Lopez: Designer Zac Posen arrived to last night's CFDA Awards with American model of Dominican descent Sessilee Lopez, who wore a gold-nude sweetheart neckline multi-seamed gown by Zac Posen, naturally. That gold-nude color always looks AMAZING on women with the fabulous skin tone of Sessilee. I also like the fact that Zac never met a cummerbund he didn't like. Bring back the cummerbund I say! Another example of a cute Prom Pic!

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen: Actresses, Designers and BILLION-DOLLAR Mega Brand, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen were Nominated for the Emerging Talent CFDA Award last night for their clothing design company "The Row" which has garnered both critical and editorial acclaim, the "Anna Wintour Stamp of Approval" and doing fabulously well at retail. They attended last night's event, of course, in style! Mary-Kate (Right) wore a gold Chanel jacket with a The Row (their own line) fishtail hem skirt and Louis Vuitton strappy heels. Ashley (Left), wore The Row dress, and Manolo Blahnik heels. Both accessorized it with great handbags from their line (naturally), The Row. The bags alone are estimated to retail for $5,450!!!

Royal Wedding Minute: Wedding of Princess Carolina de Bourbon-Parma

Ciao Italia and The Netherlands

The Happy, Rich, and Very Titled...Couple: Princess Carolina de Bourbon-Parma and Albert Brenninkmeijer, Basilica San Miniato al Monte Florence Italy

Today, Saturday June 16th, Princess Carolina de Bourbon-Parma, Marchioness of Sala, Duchess of Guernica (yes, from the Salvador Dali painting!) wed Albert Brenninkmeijer of the very wealthy German-Dutch Brenninkmeijer family--owners of the C and A Department Stores...

At the Basilica San Miniato al Monte in Florence Italy.

Princess Bride: Princess Carolina de Bourbon-Parma

First a little background on the bride: Princess Carolina is fourth and youngest child of Princess Irene of the Netherlands (sister to Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands) and Carlos Hugo Duke of Parma. Carolina is a member of the Dutch Royal Family.

Royal Spain-Dutch DRAMA:

Wedding of Princess Irene of the
Netherlands and Carlos Hugo de Bourbon Parma at the Borghese Chapel at
the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, Italy, 1964

When her mother, Irene of the Netherlands, married Paris-born Carlos Hugo de Bourbon in Rome Italy in 1964, no member of the Dutch Royal Family attended the wedding. Why? Well, here you go: the marriage caused a constitutional crisis in the Netherlands. Irene lost her rights of succession to the Dutch
throne because the government refused to enact a law permitting the
marriage (Ay Dios Mio!).

Fuchsia Mother of The Bride: Princess Irene of the Netherlands and her handsome son Prince Jaime, Count of Bardi

Her mother could not go to Rome to talk Irene out of the
marriage and of her conversion to Catholicism because the government advised her against it (seriously, these people needed to get a LIFE!). If that wasn't enough, there was the issue of the Dutch government seeing international
political difficulties arising from a possible heir to the Dutch throne
holding a controversial claim to the throne of a foreign state (keep up kids, it's complicated!): In the early 1950's, Carlos' father publicly laid claim to the Spanish throne as being a member of the House of Bourbon-Parma (a branch of the Bourbon's), but Spain's Dictator Francisco Franco ignored him and later chose King Juan Carlos as Franco's successor. Now, speaking of Juan Carlos...

A Who's Who of Blue-Blood Bridesmaids: Wedding of Prince Juan Carlos and Princess Sofia, 1962 Athens Greece

In 1962--two years before she got married to el Escandaloso Carlos Princess Irene of the Netherlands just happened to be a Bridesmaid at Prince Juan Carlos and Princess SofĂa's wedding in Athens Greece. Check out the rest of the illustrious Bridesmaids (it reads like a "Who's Who of A-List Blue-Blood Royalty!): From left to right in the photo: Princess Alexandra of Kent, Princess
Tatiana Radziwill, Princess Benedikte of Denmark, Princess Irene of
Greece, Princess Anne-Marie of Denmark, Princess Anne of France,
Princess Irene of the Netherlands (second from the right) and the Infanta Pilar of Spain. Anyhow, Carlos and Irene of the Netherlands divorced in 1981 and Princess Carolina's father--Carlos Hugo de Bourbon--passed away almost two years ago.

Now that we got that out of the way, let's get to The Wedding, the fabulous Guests and the fashion. Let's begin with the Wedding dress:

The Gown: Designed by Dutch fashion designer Addy van den Krommenacker (above), who has been designing since 2002. For Princess Carolina's wedding gown, he incorporated the lace embroidery-- from Brugge Belgium...

That was in her mother's Wedding Gown from 1964 (as seen above) and placed it in Carolina's gown and veil. According to his pr people, it took months to restore and make the lace embroidery "come to life" for 2012 standards.

Wedding Guests:

Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands: One of the Richest Women on Earth, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands--the Bride's aunt--wore a mauve-colored silk jacquard suit with bell-styled sleeves with ruffles; the jacket also featured cascading ruffles down the front.Matching hat, gloves, shoes and hosiery of course, as only a Queen would do.

Feathered: the always stylish Princess Maxima of the Netherlands (far left holding on to her Mother-in-Law Queen Beatrix and her husband Willem-Alexander Prince of Orange, on the far right)--wore a taupe ensemble with a blouson top, feathered shirt and bell-shaped sleeves. The Argentinian-born Crown Princess to the Dutch throne finished it off with a fabulous hat.

Princess in Red: Princess Laurentien and Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands with their
children Countess of Orange Leonore and Count of Orange Claus-Casimir
leave the Princess Carolina Wedding with Mr Albert Brenninkmeijer
at Basilica di San Miniato al Monte

Fab Shoes Ladies--and Gentleman: Princess Marilene and Prince Maurits of the Netherlands (10th in line for the Dutch Throne) (left pic) and Prince Bernhard (11th in line for the Dutch Throne) and Princess Annette of the Netherlands (right photo). I LOVE the bejeweled ankle-strapped heels of Princess Marilene on the top left photo. And take a look at Prince Bernhard's silver shoes!! Those Dutch boys can really give it you...when it comes to "Yeah, I'm royalty but I'm still a Hipster Fashion Boy!"

Polka Dots, Prints and...OH HUNEY: Two guests on the left pic showing how it's done when attending a semi-royal wedding Florence Italy. I LOVE this woman in her orange-and-white bold polka dot printed chiffon dress and silver sandals. She's my new Best Friend! And speaking of friend, whoever is next to her is also working the printed dress look to no end. The colors are absolutely fantastic! On the right photo we have Margarita de Bourbon (the Bride's older sister), who decided to go "Tacky Wedding Party" in her baby blue ensemble featuring a too-wide notch-collared/lapel coat. Poor thing, she looks like she didn't get the COUTURE memo...those over-sized coat lapels are something straight out of a Fashion Student's sophomore-year project.

Congratulations and Happy Wedding to the Royal-and-Rich Couple of Princess Carolina and Albert Brenninkmeijer
