Today's Everyday Fashion: Skirt Trick

Inspiration: Nasty Gal
Same dress x 4

I wore this for a speaking engagement in Tallahassee yesterday! (It was for my VISIT FLORIDA gig.) I was craving the cobalt skirt + necklace combo, and Dalmatian print felt like the perfect print to combine it with. I only have a Dalmatian dress, and while I love wearing dresses as tops, this is the first time I've tried one with a fitted pencil skirt (I usually go for a fuller skirt, like so). The dress adds some warmth, and also gets rid of any hints of VPL, but it made my skirt a bit tighter and I had to make sure the dress stayed in position throughout the day. In the end, I could hardly tell I was wearing a dress and I don't think anyone would've ever guessed, so it's a trick I plan to try again. Do you ever wear dresses as shirts?

How To Make A Cute Outfit With Basic Clothes - OOTD

You don't have to spend a lot of money to look amazing. With these cool-girl styling tricks, you'll slay every OOTD

It seems like celebs and style bloggers have unlimited super-cool wardrobes, but really, they just make tiny tweaks to make the most basic outfits look seriously chic. They somehow put together things you never thought would go to create totally fresh, next-level looks using the same pieces. You don't need a stylist to do it! To score the same next level-style just follow these easy tips for making any outfit instantly cooler.

Knot a button-down shirt to show off your waist.

A midi skirt looks super cute with that plaid shirt that's already in your closet. Tying it in the middle will show off rather than hide your shape and give you a more polished look. Layer a turtleneck underneath to keep your belly from showing when it's chilly out.

Here's the trick to making the perf knot: Undo the bottom three buttons and tie the shirt tails into a knot. Tighten so the knot hits just above your belly button and knot again. Straighten the ends so it sits where you want.

Belt your layers.

Layering is an easy way to look fashion-y when it's cold outside and save money by getting more use out of the pieces already in your closet. But when you have a bunch of different layers on, the finished product can end up look a little bulky and random. A belt pulls the whole look together and carves out your figure under all those clothes, so all those layers don't swallow you up.
Here's how it's done:
Step 1: Start by layering a thin, long-sleeved shirt under a sleeveless dress.

Step 2: Toss a button-down shirt on top and leave it open.

Step 3: Add a furry vest.

Step 4: Pull it all together with a belt.

3. Cuff your jeans.

There's nothing wrong with rocking your jeans as is, but your fave closet staple can get an easy upgrade with ankle cuffs. It's a subtle style trick that instantly freshens up an outfit you've worn a million times. Not to mention, it's the perf way to show off your rockin' footwear. The trick is to choose the right technique based on the pant style you're rocking.

Skinny Jeans

Cuffs on skinny jeans look best on the smaller side, because they keep the streamlined look of the fitted pants. Make the cuffs about a half-inch wide and only roll them twice.

Boyfriend Jeans

When it comes to the baggier style of jeans, it's less about cuffing and more about rolling. You want to keep the casual vibe of the jeans intact, and the looser, bulkier fabric works well with a messier cuff.

Roll your jeans about three times with 1-inch cuffs. Don't press down on the cuffs to make a crease. Instead, go for a cylindrical shape like a roll. Mess the cuff up when you're finished so it doesn't look too perfect.

Stack your rings.

One ring is cute; eight is even cuter. But how do you make different sizes and styles of rings look cool and edgy and not like you're a preschooler who got in her mom's jewelry box? It's all about placement and how you stack the different styles.

Cinch a shapeless dress.

A boxy shift dress hides your shape and can look like it came from your mom's closet. Knot it in the middle to gather up all that extra fabric and totally transforms the dress into a more figure-flattering style.
It's super easy to do yourself! Just follow these steps:

FEELING FESTIVE

Though I love Holiday season in general, dressing up is definitely one of my favorite parts! Yet, with so many different events, parties, get-togethers and mixers to attend, choosing what to wear, can get a bit frustrating! So, I though it would be fun do a post covering a few different functions like a casual work party or a family get-together for example, girls night out and finally, a dressier, date-night type occasion.

CASUAL PARTY:
For me, Holiday dressing doesn't automatically imply getting super dressed up! Take festive outerwear for example, a beautiful plaid jacket in a signature Holiday black and red color combo captures the spirit of the season without looking too formal! Perfect for any casual function, not only does it look great but it will also keep you warm and cozy for the rest of the season:) For today's look, I paired my red checked moto jacket with all black pieces and accessories to really make it the focal point of this look! Fun little finishing touch, an oversized plaid blanket scarf to make that red really pop!

GIRLS NIGHT OUT:
A little fun, a little edgy and sexy, a feathered skirt and a tailored blazer are a match made in fashion heaven and a great alternative to a little black dress! Aside from my general love of separates, what makes this particular feather mini & fitter blazer so great is their versatility. You can pair this mini with tailored pieces like I've done for today's look or wear it with a slouchy turtleneck sweater and boots for a slightly more casual vibe. And the same can be said about the blazer! Dress it up with tailored bottoms or down with a pair of jeans and cute loafers. Basically, the possibilities are endless! For today's outfit, I was going for a really dressy, polished look, so I added strappy heels, a fun gold clutch and some beautiful layered jewels in gold.

DATE NIGHT:
Dresses are my achilles heel, and fun, sequin number are my ultimate weakness, especially for the Holidays!:) Love the way sequins catches the light, sparkles and shines in a beautiful rainbow of colors! Once again, a great alternative to a little black dress, sequin dresses add that perfect dose of glitz and glamour and create a really strong impact. Because they are such a statement piece, I prefer to pair them with really simple accessories so that they don't take away from the dress. A cute pair of heels and a simple clutch is really all you need to shine! Finishing touch? A few layered rings, red lips and tousled waves! And voila! A perfect date-night look!

Today's Everyday Fashion: Pink Bubbles

I wore this yesterday for lunch and errands. I like combining polka dot tops with bubble necklaces, because the shapes are similar without being too symmetrical. My pink bubble necklace looked best with this top (I own light pink, turquoise, yellow and burgundy), and so pink jeans were an easy match. I originally threw on nude pumps, but the black ones are more comfortable and have a slightly lower heel so I went for those for practicality sake. Which shoes do you like better?

Also... I stopped in Target yesterday for household supplies and got completely distracted by all the cute clothes in their spring collection. Hands down my favorite piece is the Blue Willow printed skirt (top left). I also bought the other two pieces I tried on, but not sure if I'm keeping them yet. The pink tweed is adorable in person but doesn't look great in pictures. I wish they had more things in my size so I could have tried all of them on, but these are the pieces I was drooling over. Which one is your favorite?

Today's Everyday Fashion: If The Boot Fits

This dress is way too much fun - my favorite color (mustard!), pockets, and a fun silhouette. When it arrived, I noticed the brand name is"Just J," which just seemed appropriate because I could see this dress eliciting that response from a friend: "This dress is just J!" (Yes, my friends really call me J; it's a nickname that started in grade school.) I also want to try this dress with a stretchy belt and pumps, but today it's all about the boots, see below!

Belt: Gap, $40 (similar, similarsimilar)
Boots: Chinese Laundry c/o

Vince Camuto $120   /   Dolce Vita $100  /   Nine West $68

You may recall my hunt for the perfect pair of boots in this post. Welp, I ordered three of the eight pairs I featured from Amazon, and thought I'd share the results with ya'll. My first thoughts: why do the boots look so much darker in person than they do online? Also, why do boots never fit my calves? I ordered a size 9.5 in all three boots, and as you can see they are all pretty loose, although not as bad as some boots I've tried on. The middle pair doesn't have a zipper (you just slide them on) and oddly they seemed to fit the best around my calves.

Conclusion? I think I'm sending all three back, although the middle pair are awfully tempting to keep at that price, and I like the color best! What brands / stores do you recommend for boot shopping?

The Dress That Had Me At Hello

Dress: Three Floor Fashion c/o, Heels: Russell & Bromley, Arm Bangle: Feather & Stone c/o, Bracelets: Nadia Rabosio, Rings: Freedom @ Topshop

If this Three Floor dress could talk (no doubt in the most fabulous raspy, upper East Side New York-en lilt) it would have had me, for sure, at hello.

I wore this look to our friends' wedding this past weekend, and had the most fun. A stellar dress will do that for you.
Read on for more pics, and my notes on wedding guest dressing . . .

Notes on styling: By the end of the Summer I will have been to five weddings this year - the most I have ever been to! I know you guys are smart, and so what I'm about to say will no doubt already be ingrained in your wardrobe psyche, however I feel it's worth repeating: you're comfort at the wedding is paramount, do not sacrifice it for your outfit! Bring a coat, wear comfortable shoes, and an ensemble you can eat in.

When it comes to clothing, a flattering cut is my go-to for confidence. Be that a great pair of trousers and a structured top, or a fit n' flare dress . . . with room for wedding cake!

Colour is an easy cheat to looking your best; think of the hue which people most compliment you in and search for a great look in that colour. I love pink, and will have worn it to three of the five weddings this year, I always feel great in it and so it's an easy option for me. For you, a fabulous jade green may be your perfect colour, or cobalt blue, or orange . . . experiment until you find a hue which makes your eyes sparkle, skin glow and you smile! If you find yourself lost in a pile of options, take a photo in your mirror of each, including shoes and accessories, and compare your looks once you've had some time to step away and get some perspective. Ultimately, it comes back to my first point, whatever you feel most comfortable in, you'll look your most fabulous!

What is your favourite wedding guest outfit? Are you guys heading to any occasions soon? Can you share your failsafe tip for feeling fabulous?

Today's Everyday Fashion: The Holiday Party

I love red and sequins together for the holidays! (See how I wore it last year on Christmas Eve.) For a holiday party last night, I achieved this combo by pairing an old red dress with two recent Black Friday purchases - a sequin cardigan and purse - to make it feel new again. This dress is also a great example of making a cheaper dress look more expensive with altering. I bought it one size bigger from Forever 21 so it would be longer, and had it altered to fit a couple years ago. Are you a fan of red + sparkles for holiday? What are your favorite holiday colors/textures?

Cardigan: Limited, $40 -  It was warm so I didn't need the cardigan; I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it!
Dress: Forever 21, old
Shoes: Marshall's, old  (love these)
Purse: Limited, $15
Earrings: local boutique
Rings: My Stella & Dot website $49 and $39
Bracelets: Banana Republic, My Stella & Dot website $59 and $59 and $79

#NYFW FUN WITH PANDORA AT NANETTE LEPORE SPRING 16 PRESENTATION

If you read my blog on a regular basis you know what a huge PANDORA Jewelry & Nanette Lepore fan I truly am! Well, as luck would have it, I got a chance to partner with PANDORA for NYFW to style a few favorite pieces from their Autumn collection and also attend Nanette Lepore's SS16 presentation!

This season Nanette Lepore's collection was laid-back, carefree, and just plain fun featuring some beautiful off-the-shoulder numbers, black eyelet and fun prints. The looks were accessorized with stacked PANDORA rings, which served as perfect finishing touches to these playful looks!

I chose a beautiful little cape number from Nanette Lepore to wear to the event. Aside from my general fondness for little black dresses, what attracted me to this particular piece, was the cut, the long dramatic bell sleeves and embellished keyhole neckline. In short, I liked pretty much everything about it!:) I accessorized the look with layered sterling silver PANDORA bracelets and rings to create a very dramatic arm party. The best thing about PANDORA is that I'm able to showcase my unique, individual style. I said it before and I'll say it again, when it comes to jewelry, I strongly believe that more is more... And of course this look is no exception!:) In my mind, little black dresses and heavily-layered jewels are basically a match made in fashion heaven. Something about the classic elegance of black paired with an embellished wrist helps to create a rather dramatic look! And of course you know me, when it comes to fashion, a little drama is a must!:)
