Today I'm sharing with you guys how to make your very own inspirational posters.
As part of my obsession with my new home office (which currently resides under mounds of un-packed boxes - ugh not for much longer) I got to thinking about wall posters and what I would want to see around me in my work space. There are a ton of great posters which you can buy ready made, but I like the idea of choosing my own inspirational words and quotes.
Read on for instructions and the thinking behind my own inspirational poster . . .
DIY 'ing Notes: I've recently been reading Creative Visualization by Shakti Gawain after many people recommended it to me. It's a really powerful book, and I've put into practice a lot of its teachings which have helped me find calm in stressful situations, and focus on my goals. One of the chapters which stuck with me was about 'going with the flow'; I'll allow you to delve into the full explanation should you choose to read the book but essentially, using the theory of Tao, Creative Visualization encourages us to 'let go' and flow with the 'river of life'. Recently, I've been reminding myself to 'go with the flow' and allow things to unfold naturally, I guess I've always been one for fate but this is a gentle prompt. Every time I put this thinking into practice I feel so much more relaxed. I'd recommend trying to implement this to anyone that is prone to stress - as I'm sure we all are at times!
Anyhu, that's the thinking behind my inspirational quote, I'm hoping that having it on the wall will encourage me to do as it says.
And now, on to the DIY!
And now, on to the DIY!
Equipment:
1 x Picture Frame
1 x Card to fit frame
1 x Pack of glitter letters
Instructions:
Place your lettering onto your paper using a ruler for accuracy. I like to have my text evenly spaced but it is totally up to you how you lay it out.
Peel the sticky backs off of your letters and stick to your paper.
Place paper into your frame and use a little tape to secure to the frame mount. This will stop it from slipping.
Assemble frame and display!
Tips:
1. Choosing your quote
Spend some time researching quotes. I turned to Pinterest for ideas, but I also love reading articles on people I admire or rehashing over my favourite movie quotes. The aim of these posters is to make YOU smile and feel inspired so anything which speaks to you personally is ace. I wrote all of my favourites down, this way I have a reference should I wish to change up my poster in a few months.
2. Framing
I opted for a simple A4 Ribba frame from IKEA. Ols and I are using the same frames in varying sizes in white and grey throughout the flat to create a uniform effect. You can use whichever size you feel will fit your space. For me, I wanted to create more than one inspirational poster so A4 felt like a good size to have multiple of.
3. Craft supplies
I used white paper in this DIY but I also have a glittery pale blue for my next poster; I like the idea of contrasting colours. I bought my paper from my local craft shop and the glitter letters from one of my favourite boutiques The Hambledon. Etsy, Amazon and Ebay all have craft supplies at reasonable price points. Don't be afraid to experiment! The beauty of this DIY is in its simplicity you can go back to the drawing board and change things up with minimal hassle! Or in other words . . .
What would you guys put on your inspirational wall poster? Will you be giving this DIY a whirl?
Have a super day all!
Love,
