Abarcas - The New Shoe Style You NEED To Know

Abarcas - get to know the name NOW. The perfect Summer sandal, this shoe style is the traditional ware and product of Menorca - where I first came across them. They are made using artisan methods -  including recycled tyres for the soles! - and are unisex, insanely comfortable and an awesome alternative to gladiators and flip flops.

This season I've noticed a couple of stores  picking up on the Abarcas style, including ASOS, Dune and Jeffrey Campbell. If you're travelling to Menorca or Spain buy them from the local shops - they're the best - but if not, my tip is to invest in a similar pair pronto. A slingback mule style is along the same aesthetic. Below I've rounded up my favourites available now.

Styling Notes: Abarcas are best worn with denim cutoffs, vintage or white dresses. You can buy them in all different hues but I've got my eye on a metallic pair next.

I love a print clash and these Three Floor trousers have been an awesome find for the chillier evenings here in Menorca. A peasant blouse is a great buy for Summer, they can be dressed up for work, as seen on Laura Fantacci from Wearing It Today, and dressed down for a cool day look as seen on Ella from Cocos Tea Party (side note: these ladies' blogs are two of my daily reads!)

Righto, Ols and I are off to enjoy our penultimate day in Menorca.

Hola chicas!

Pineapples are SO fun and I've loved exploring the sweet town of Es Mercadal this morning wearing my new flippy pineapple dress. Seeing a pineapple print on ANYTHING - a dress, jumper or T-shirt just makes me smile. I'm looking to expand my collection with this awesome Topshop jumper for a coverup come chillier evenings.

What I Wear To Travel

What I Wear To Travel

Hello you gorgeous lot!

  I like to wear my bulkiest pieces - jeans, jumpers and trainers - to travel in; layering up to save on space and deal with the hot/cold environment of airplanes. We travelled with hand luggage only and so packing light and smart was a priority. A classic combination of breton stripes and denim makes for items which I can easily mix and match with other pieces I've packed - and bright lipstick (I hope!) hides 5am eyes. The handle for my suitcase broke just before we flew and so I coerced Oli into awkwardly lugging it around in exchange for his MUCH more comfortable backpack. I am totally going to invest - I like this one from Samsonite.

 THREE naps down and Ols and I are just about finding our feet in Menorca this morning. I don't think we even realised how tired we were - and then BOOM - eyes closed - snoozing again!
