WHO WORE WHAT.....2016 Golden Globes Red Carpet: Trend Alert! Sequined Gowns

Beaded Beauties: The All-over Sequined Gown Trend...as seen at the 2016 Golden Globes Red Carpet

Sequined gowns were very popular on the red carpet at last night's 2016 Golden Globe Awards. To begin my list of examples of the All-Over Beaded Beauties, I have to start with the gorgeous Debbie Matenopoulos, co-host of "The Insider" TV Show on the red carpet last night wearing...on of MY designs!!

Debbie Matenopoulos in custom NIKOLAKI by Nick Verreos/David Paul: I know that I may be a bit biased in putting my "Greek Sister From Another Mister" here since she wore one of our designs but yet, it did fall right in line with this All-Over Sequined Trend seen at the 2016 Golden Globes. The silk chiffon column gown featured thousands of hand-beaded black and silver paillettes, a bias-cut cowl neckline, open back and slight dramatic train. And, yes, I think she looked GORGEOUS (of course!).

Julianne Moore in Tom Ford: Julianne Moore chose this blue sequined column gown from Tom Ford. The dress had long sleeves and silk velvet bands that curved around her neck and armhole/shoulder. While I appreciate its simplicity, I almost feel as if she's too covered up. On a nice note: I am so intrigued by that ring on her finger!

Kate Hudson in Michael Kors Collection: Kate's blush-pink dress--or crop top and skirt--from Michael Kors Collection gave a 70's Farrah Fawcett vibe in its styling. Although I do like it's retro simplicity, I think the nude color washed the beautiful Hudson out. I was also not a fan of her hair; she looked as if she just came from the gym.

Carly Chaikin in Juan Carlos Obando: I loved this gown by LA-based designer Juan Carlos Obando. The gown features iridescent sequins in a devore velvet-like pattern, a cinched waist, peplum detail and gathered halter neckline. It's a rather simple silhouette but the star her is that sequined fabric!

Kate Bosworth in Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda: Kate Bosworth wore this pink sequined strapless gown with UBER embellished corset/bustier. Very Baroque Principessa!

Olivia Wilde in Michael Kors Collection: This all-over beaded column gown, from Michael Kors Collection, had a plunging neckline (very popular!) and 3" wide waistband that accentuated the waist. I'm not so sure she needed to wear that necklace with this gown since it almost seems unnecessary; a gold bangle cuff on her wrist might have been better.

Brie Larson in Calvin Klein Collection: Brie Larson was part of this 2016 Golden Globes Sequined Gown Brigade in this gold all-over beaded silk chiffon halter-neck gown from Calvin Klein Collection. The gown had peek-a-boo sides and slight keyhole front. I think this was a beautiful gown and one of the best in this Sequined Gown Trend; it fit nicely, perfect length and was 70's Disco Chic!

Red Carpet Report: Beaded and/or Backless Gowns

BACKLESS + Beaded = GORG!

Recently, lots of actresses, models, your "Usual Red Carpet Subjects" have been GIVING Backless and/or Full-on Beaded on the Red Carpet--here are some examples--including one from my own NIKOLAKI Spring 2011 Collection...

Sequined Hilary: Hilary Swank in Elie Saab Spring 2011 Couture at the 2011 International Indian Film Academy Awards in Toronto Canada over the weekend. Why Toronto for the International Indian Film Academy Awards, you might ask? Well, kiddies, according to this, the Greater Toronto area has the second largest population of people of Indian descent in NORTH AMERICA!!!! Yep! Moving on...Miss Swank is wearing an absolutely stunning gown from the Lebanese designer's Haute Couture Collection--which means that EVERY single one of those beads was applied BY HAND and so were the seams that were sewn. NO machines darlings. That's why this gown would probably cost around $100,000 if you were to order it. It's a good guess Miss Hilary got it for free--lent that is...

Silver Goddess: Victoria's Secret Model and actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Naeem Khan at the Germany Premiere of Transformers 3. Naeem has been in the news as of late because the US First Lady, Michelle Obama just LOVES wearing his designs. He is an American Fashion Designer of Indian origin who has a very good business creating evening gowns. Love the cap sleeves, love the back train, well done! It's both chic, and UBER glamorous. I also adore that side-knot-twisted hairstyle.

Spanish actress Paz Vega at the Shanghai Film Festival in an all-over sequined backless gown featuring long fitted sleeves and (gasp!) shoulder pads! (yes, ladies, they are back...and have been for a while!). Interesting that when I looked at the photo on the right--doesn't it look as if the back of her gown just came undone? Or it's about to. Or maybe, it was hooked way beyond the edge of the back closure....who knows. (sorry too much "Fashion Terminology"). I still LIKE it. Fits her well, the oversized paillettes are great, good job Paz.

She Loves a Mini: Cameron Diaz in Emilio Pucci Fall 2011 at the Moscow Premiere of Bad Teacher. All over sequins in gold and black work well with Cameron Diaz. And she loves a mini--16-18" below her natural waist seems to be her favorite hem length. I do like that the rest of her is covered--the three-quarter sleeves the bateau neckline.

Finally...there's model Amanda Fields in NIKOLAKI Spring 2011: My NIKOLAKI Co-Designer David Paul and I just love this gown and because it fits this blog's "Category", of course, we had to add it!!! No one has worn it yet and many, many actresses and stylists have "pulled this dress" but no one has used it yet--maybe there's still time for a FAB Red Carpet Moment for this gown...
