Macallan Whisky Launches Rare Cask with a Night of Rarities

Macallan Whisky held a “Night of Rarities” at The Berkshire Room to debut their new Macallan Rare Cask. Launching this fall in limited quantities, attendees were the first in Illinois to taste the exceptional beverage.

Macallan Whisky was joined by other fineries. Dinner Lab, a membership-based dining experience that links curious diners with undiscovered chefs, shared a gorgeous Macallan Dessert Cocktail, comprised of The Macallan Sherry Sorbet, dry oloroso sherry foam, and lemon, and a Sherry and Chocolate, chocolate cake teamed with a dry oroloso sherry gel and toffee. Icon, vehicles handmade in Los Angeles, Symbol handcrafted audio, and wristwatch expert Hodinkee were also there.

Jason Moore and Stuart Macpherson The Rare Cask was introduced by brand ambassador Jason Moore and Macallan’s Master of Wood Stuart Macpherson. "Wood sits at the very heart of what we do at The Macallan, and Rare Cask further demonstrates the vital role of our casks in the production of our superb whiskies," said Macpherson. "Our commitment to sherry seasoned oak casks is unquestionable and Rare Cask showcases The Macallan at its very best." I like a drink you know is special when you first meet. It has a presence. The color smiles as it wakes up and dances with the light—all natural. There’s a flirty aroma. You taste spices, fleeting vanilla, raisins, a . strong presence of wood. It’s sure of itself, mellow.

We were able to try other Macallan Whiskys. I compared The Rare Cask with the Twelve Year Old Macallan. It was very different from The Rare Cask. Still very good, you can definitely tell it’s from the same family, but the burn of the alcohol meets at the lip. It’s spunky and there’s a transparency in its body. It was a boy versus a man. While it was the Rare Cask’s party, I fell in love with the dry oloroso sherry from Spain. It was sweet, complex, vibrant, and fruity. I became the sherry advocate. "Have you tried the sherry?" There’s a sherry? Right over here. Find out more about Macallan Whisky at www.themacallan.com
