Daily Diva: Actress Eva Mendes attends the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival in Gucci Fall 2011

Retro in Red....

Eva Mendes attended the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival yesterday and she opted for this Gucci Fall 2011 Silk Chiffon retro-inspired dress with Blouson Sleeves and High Neck.

The Tribeca Film Festival Red Carpet has been a bit of a mish-mash with starlets wearing everything from Couture to T-Shirts and Capri Pants!

I see why Eva was drawn to this Gucci dress. The color is fantastic and the retro 60's vibe is fun and flirty. It's sort of "Latina Valley of The Dolls"; all that's missing is pool in Palm Springs or Bel Air and some Martinis. Oh and some pool boys! She made some changes to the dress from the runway, eliminating the neck tie (good choice!) and taking away the black belt. I think the belt would have given the dress a stronger silhouette and helped define her waist.

Still, when you look like Eva (look at that bone structure and EYEBROWS!) you can look fabulous in almost anything and she is definitely "owning" this look.
For this Eva, you are my Diva of the Day!!
What do you guys think??? Would LOVE to know...

2011 Tribeca Film Festival Red Carpet: Plaid "Russian River Bear Weekend" Edition

This Just Makes Me SHIVER...with JOY!!!!

2011 Tribeca Film Festival Best Dressed Couple: Designers Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra

It's official: I am in LOVE! With Designing Partners Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra of Costello Tagliapietra. This is just Russian River "Bear Weekend" Lumberjack Couture Heaven!!! They showed up to the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival Red Carpet Premiere of Karl Lagerfeld and Rachel Bilson's Original Film Series Inspired by Magnum Ice Cream.

They ROCK!

2011 Tribeca Film Festival Red Carpet: The Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen Edition!

Ashley and Mary-Kate:

Attending the Red Carpet Premiere of "The Union" at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival are Fashion Sisters, Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. They are fully embracing their looks and individual styles. I'm sure they have their "Style Haters" but I'm not one of them. I'm just surprised they BOTH weren't "giving" fur--It's not a "Mary-Kate & Ashley Red Carpet Moment" without seeing FUR CHUBBY DOUBLE!!!!

Who Looks Best? Ashley (Left) or Mary-Kate (Right)? Let me know.

2011 Tribeca Film Festival: Christy Turlington Burns

Comfy but not Chic...

Jersey Tee, Bulky Sweater, Capris and ankle-strap sandals on the Red Carpet? Uh. No.

Supermodel Christy Turlington Burns attended the red carpet premiere of "The Carrier" at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival and whereas other lovely red carpet girls have been wearing fabulous cocktail dresses or even actual one-of-a-kind Haute Couture...Miss Christy decides to go the "Comfy" route. She wore a big chunky sweater, khaki Capri pants (Capri pants for God's sakes!!!), a long jersey tee and (Wait for it!), ankle strapped sandals. I know! Say What?

Now, I know: It's CHRISTY TURLINGTON! Look at that face; barely a stitch of make up and she makes all the other women seem like they don't exist. You would think that someone with one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL faces in the World would be able to just about wear anything. But seriously, it's a Red Carpet event...not a trip to Whole Foods!! Oh, well, she's allowed a "miss", she is still, one of the most beautiful women in the damn world!! Maybe next time Miss Christy.

2011 Tribeca Film Festival: Actress Malin Akerman in J.Mendel leather!!!

Asymmetrical Beauty...

Actress Malin Akerman in J.Mendel, 2011 Tribeca Film Festival

Actress Malin Akerman showed up to the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival "Bang Bang Club" Red Carpet premiere in New York City last night. Showing off her new red hair color, Malin was wearing a sexy tan leather J. Mendel dress featuring a great asymmetrical folded-and-pleated neckline. Love the dress. On the fence with the shoes. I like how they are stacked (points for that!) but not so sure of the color. But, you know what, come to think of it, Malin can really wear just about anything and look AMAZING!

Speaking of...here's a Malin Akerman "Flashback":

Malin Akerman, circa 2003, modeling NIKOLAKI Fall 2003 Los Angeles/Smashbox Fashion Week

Yes, kids, that's Malin Akerman (pre-red hair) modeling in one of my first Los Angeles Smashbox Fashion Week Runway Shows, back in 2003, when--along with my design partner David Paul, we debuted our NIKOLAKI Fall 2003 Collection. She was one of our models!!! And she walked TWICE in the show: First wearing a wool plaid pant ensemble with a copper jersey one shoulder top above.

And then, we put Malin in an asymmetrical silk charmeuse one-shoulder cocktail number with hand-sewn Swarovski crystals (seen above). *And NO! Those aren't her eyebrows, we were being a bit Avante Garde with the make-up!! She did a FABULOUS job in my NIKOLAKI show and well, who would have known that in just a few short years, she would be one of Hollywood's top stars!!! Love ya Malin!

2011 Tribeca Film Festival: Actress Rachel Bilson in Chanel Haute Couture!

Red Carpet Pretty of The Week
...

Actress Rachel Bilson in Chanel Haute Couture Spring 201o, 2011 Tribeca Film Festival

Last night was the Debut of Karl Lagerfeld and Rachel Bilson's Original Film Series Inspired by Magnum Ice Cream (say what??), at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival. Actress Rachel Bilson looked soooo pretty in a Chanel Spring 2010 Haute Couture dress (yes, kids HAUTE COUTURE and maybe worth about $30,000 if she were to actually buy it!).

Karl Lagerfeld was there, in his black suit "uniform" and signature high-collared dress shirt and along with...

A flowery Anna Wintour (she is embracing a Spring 2011 Trend 110%!!!). I love a woman in prints, especially when she can get away with it! She's like "Umm, kids, I am here!! Step aside!"
